@@m____w____6981 I think his revealing that he was actually getting the jokes from the bazooka wrappers was meant to be a slow unveiling. Took me and my partner a moment to realize the same, so don't be so hard on your brain. 😁
I still don't get that bit. I didn't laugh or think it funny it's over my head. I admit that's a me problem Bob's awesome nonetheless but seriously, clue me in what was the joke?
I know this is a year old, but I gotta respond to this. Bob Odenkirk is celebrated as one of the greatest comics of our time, having spent his entire career writing comedy, stand-up, for SNL as well as improvising humor in just about everything he's been in. He's starred in two of the greatest shows in the history of television and has been in more than a few movies. On what planet is Bob Odenkirk underrated?
Me too!! I was trying to relay it to my husband just recently but can't do it justice. Now I can show it to him! Maybe I'm weird but I think Bob Odenkirk is hilarious, I loved Mr. Show and he did a brilliant bit on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
"You get a necklace with that one" That line just sells it right there. So awesome. I remember watching this on TV back in 1992. Holy crap. It blew my mind back then and I was instantly a fan of BO.
@@Ffejro12256 Thanks but what does Bazooka Joe have to do with a necklace. Edit: Nevermind just looked it up, they had some sort of promotion for necklaces if you sent in the wrapper.
I saw this in the initial broadcast. It was the same episode with Janeane Garofalo. Bob had a swagger back then. With his boyish good looks and his middle class irony he was ahead of his time. He wasn't just breaking the fourth wall ala Garry Shandling, he was taking a big shit on it.
You and me both. I remember seeing this on Comedy Central (back when it started. Penn was doing voiceovers to announce shows and Jon Stewart was hosting SAST. ) If you remember BO in 92 then you probably know all those references.
For all you geniuses saying "this standup isn't funny", he is doing broad comedy (like he and David did later in Mr Show), not traditional "stand up" of setup->punchline jokes. These are more like mini, 1-man skits.
Please more A-List comedy from Comedy Central in the 90's. I miss it so much! Higgins Boys and Grubber, Larry Miller (5 stages of alchohol), Bobcat Golthwaite, Robert Shimmel, ect. :)
@Commander Shepard I had to Google it because I didn’t get it either but basically those chewing gums were wrapped in comic strips so he pretended like he wanted to chew the gum when in reality he was just opening them up to read the jokes. That itself is the joke, lol. I’ve never heard of bazooka chewing gum before so I was confused too 🤣
@@MsVamPireChic Yeah, I remember it back in the 90s, but I haven't seen that gum in yeaaaars. So while older millennials and up probably got it - I can understand if younger millenials and gen z people didn't get it lol. But yeah, you explained it pretty well - the gum also would have a promo where you could send in the wrappers for a necklace, hence that bit.
@Samar3n Bazooka Joe jokes were fucking terrible. The joke is Bob is playing a comic that is "so bad" he has to read Bazooka Joe comics to get material, while trying to tell though through gum chewing. It's kind of a commentary on how bad "stand up comedy" was in this era... it was an industry in the 80s and early 90s.. and there were A LOT of hack comedians. Bob was part of the "alternative comedy" scene.. which was pushing back against "mainstream" comedy... basically just thumbing their nose at anything that was "traditional" in comedy... which, if you've ever watched "MR. SHOW", Bob's 90s HBO show... you'd see what that's all about.
Maan he came a long way. Bob is not my type of humor here, I'm still waiting on a joke to happen but I love this guy nonetheless. He came original and came professional. Some of that classical clean comedy I respect it.
I don't think he has done any stand up in a long time. After starting Mr Show in the late 90s, he has only done TV show acting I believe. Currently doing Better Call Saul
Abraham q lincoln confused me, because i hadnt heard his middle name before, and i couldnt imagine what wierd ass middle name ended in q. He does not have a middle name
So … he’s a character playing a character, who is playing a character. Mind bending genius.
That bubble gum bit is one of the most original bits Ive ever seen. Never seen it before this or ever again. Thats awesome.
At the time they still had Bazooka Joe gum at every store. Not sure if it's still around.

If smokers actually kept track of how many cigarettes they smoked that would be more of a measure of their time

Life is funny huh
"you know why God made snakes before he made lawyers?"

is that Kevin Costner?
Yes, when he's not playing a fake baseball player, or cowboy
Actually Kevin Costner is Bob's alter ego.

how does he just plow through characters so effortlessly wow man of my dreams
