my mom has instilled that word into my vocabulary and i live in a small town in the midwest.. i didnt know other people didnt know about camp... its kinda sad
I've seen the word used alot in American theatre and I've even seen the word (campy) in mainstream movie/video game reviews before. People in America have used "campy" to describe very gaudy, over the top, cheesy cinema. I think people know of the word and understand it's meaning in certain contexts but, they probably don't understand it here due to the fashion context. Also they probably don't get the full scope/origin of the term.
It means the same thing in the US but here I would say your average person doesn't know what it means, but is probably unknowingly familiar with its concept. Much more known in the LGBTQ community. Kelsey and Cody not knowing about it doesn't surprise me at all lol
