This build started in 2020 from a stock Sur Ron XX Ludicrous edition from Luna Cycle. The power increase on the Sur Ron XX made it a great candidate for an electric dirt bike build platform. The Original SurRon XX Build featued a Fox 40 Fork, FOX DHX RC4 Shock, Woodys Wheel Works 21"/18" Excel Wheel Combo and a bunch of other hard parts.
Since then, it has seen several variations. Being the first candidate to receive a 4MF Surron Plastics Kit. We temporarily switched the bike back to a Woodys Wheel Works 19"/16" Excel Wheel Combo.
In the previous build video, we removed the stock SurRon motor and replaced the motor with a KO RS Motor, which is paired to a KO Pro Series controller. This KO Combo will allow for a lot more power, tuning capability and better cooling for the powertrain. We ditched the Fox Shock and added the EXT Arma E-MX Shock and paired that with a Warp 9 1.5" Linkage while we wait for the .75" Linkage and Warp 9 Triangle. We fitted the Surron XX with a Hayes Dominion A4 Brake Kit. We also added Warp 9 Handlebars, GritShift Axle Blocks and a Warp 9 54T Sprocket.
In Phase II of this Surron build:
We swapped the Fox 40 fork for the New EXT Ferro fork.
Next we swapped the 19/16 wheel set for a Warp 9 21/18, with their 220mm oversized rotors.
We got the new V2 Warp 9 triangle installed, which is re-styled with neoprene washers to help keep dirt and water out of the pivot bearings.
We also swapped the Warp 9 1.5” lift linkage for the 0.75” linkage.
We changed out the magnesium Warp 9 bars for black bars, Warp 9 bar clamp, Warp 9 hand guards, and added the Warp 9 speedometer relocation kit.
We also did Warp 9 Pegs, Warp 9 adjustable foot peg mount and a Warp 9 titanium axle and rear disc guard
Last but not least, we’re trying out the new GritShift heavy hitter skid plate.
Before I went out for my ride, I set the sag on the shock using the Motool Slacker [bit.ly/MotoolSlacker]. If you don’t already have one of these, it’s an awesome tool to have.
I also set my EXT Ferro Fork to these settings based on my riding style and weight: 100psi in the main chamber, high speed compression 10 clicks from closed, low speed compression 9 clicks from closed, rebound middled out at 11 clicks and 150 psi in the ramp chamber.
The EXT Ferro Fork has impressed me overall and would recommend this as the best upgrade fork that is a bolt on replacement for the Surron or Talaria!

I have a KO and I love it.
I have only had the Stock motor and the KO, So my opinion is not that of someone who has rode many aftermarket controllers.
With that said, I have mine in a tune that fits my needs and love that I can take more time to fine tune a wheelie mode and more.
The ability to make Trail Modes, Park Modes, Eco Modes, Race Modes and more is beyond words and is a Life changing in the Best of ways.
I recently met someone whom I consider a friend. they rode my KO and was kinda suprized in the best way.
They are a Master at wheelies on there Dirt Bike but could not handle the Tune I had set.
This is why I love the Ability to create Modes and think with the Right Tuning He would be wheeling to his hearts content!
I also Just Got that Fork, waiting on bearings for it then its ready to rock again!
Love this review and glad to hear some honest feedback on the KO and this fork!
Its not a Bad Motor or Controller imho, and as far as stock it just puts stock to shame.
With that said I love Surron/Segway/etc for allowing us to customize these bikes and give them new life on trails, street etc.
So I cant fully hate the Stock Bike but I think anyone who has a stock surron for long enough will be looking to upgrade.
Very happy with my setup so far and love the setup you have, Looks awesome!

Very surprised you don’t put that much pressure in it. I’m way lighter than you and ++ chamber needs at the very minimum 200psi with the + one around 100 to keep this plus feeling we both like.

    • @ElectricCycleRider
      @ElectricCycleRider  11 месяцев назад +4

@MTO_Brothers Thanks for the note. My spec suggestions came directly from the test riders who work at EXT. Our specs aren't far off. We are both running the same PSI in the main chamber, you're just running 50PSI more in your ramp chamber, which is likely not going to make much difference on these trails.
How much do you weigh? What type of terrain are you riding? Where are your clickers set to? Could all make a difference.
Just so this doesn't go unnoticed, as a starting point, EXT suggests 65PSI in the main chamber (+) and 100PSI in the ramp chamber (++).

    • @MTO_Brothers
      @MTO_Brothers 11 месяцев назад +1

@@ElectricCycleRider EXT's suggestions are completely off. I'm 50kg (110lbs) so clearly on the lighter side and with their recommended baseline I was bottoming out playing in my garden (not really riding).

I'd empty both chambers and refill. It's important to start with the correct chamber and it needs to always have more pressure than the upper. Otherwise top chamber having more psi will force the bike to bottom out. Hopefully you haven't done any damage.@@electric_things_

I can't run the 60 sprocket, front end just lift up on anything above
Eco wich is 1 out of 5. I want to try a 40 tooth sprocket so I can actually use sport wich would 5 out of 1 - 5. Yes I know I can turn the power down to 18 kw or lower. But I want max top speed and lower end in sport setting.

I ride a 300 2 stroke now. We ride rocky, tight single track here in PA forest. Lots of clutch work, and average speeds in the technical sections, which is where the guys I ride with like to go, might be 5-15mph.
So with that in mind, how would this be in that kind of riding with no clutch? Also, we sometimes loop out, bikes slide down rocky hills, I’ve had rocks punch through my engine cases. Are there enough after market guards to protect it in that kind of stuff ?
    Thanks

    • @midgetmoney1

These aren't good for that kind of riding. They spin the tire too easily with no clutch. Ultra be may be better once you put on the 18/21" wheels but for now, can't beat the 2 stroke with a clutch. By the time you do all the mods, you are at Erzberg prices which makes zero sense.

Always shocked how many surron folks use the fox40s as comparisons. The fox40 is one of the worst fork choices a guy could make for a light bee. These are NOT mtbs. Dh mtbs in today's day and age are sub 30lbs. Not one single mtb dh fork is designed to withstand or perform with over 100lbs of bike behind it. They will fail. Not if but when. They do fail often on surrons. ANY mtb front fork is a downgrade from stock if you got the kke setup from factory. The kke can imfact actually be tuned and setup to perform just as good as many of these high cost replacements everyone is wasting money on. My perfectly setup stock suspension works and feels 15x better then all 3 of boys built bikes with charged tuned forks on em, it's rather hilarious how little surron folks seem to know about the two wheeled industries.
