    I have direct mount shutters with four panels and t posts. I installed both side panels at each end of the window. Hinges aren’t allowing them to close fully. What’s the reason?

    thank you! I really appreciate the in depth (and free!) information. would those vinyl shutters withstand extreme cold? (I live in Canada) I would like to install shutters as a privacy screen around our patio / hottub area. Wondering which type would work for exterior?

    good info thanks. which type of material is overall best? ..bass wood, wood composite, other? ...and worth the money?

    • @3blindmiceusa
      @3blindmiceusa  8 лет назад +2

      +PEAKY Hi there! Thanks for your interest. It really depends on your definition of the best and the conditions of where you plan to put the shutters. Viny shutters are best for areas with high moisture. So if you get a lot of rain in your area, then I'd suggest using vinyl shutters.
      Meanwhile, composite and poly shutters are more affordable due to their material. By being a mix of wood and synthetic (or all synthetic), they are worth their price but quality may not be as good as classic wooden shutters. Hope this answers your question. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help! :)

    Great video. Which shutters have longer life and better thermal insulation? I live in a dry hot climate, with windows in the sun all day, sunrise to sunset. What will it be more durable to UV heat, and which one has better thermal insulation? Thank you

    • @ODwith3BM
      @ODwith3BM 6 лет назад

      Too much to discuss in a reply, but we service Souther California, Nevada and Arizona all of which are dry hot climates and our number one seller is real wood. If you purchase a quality product you will not have any problems.

    Is there an issue with vinyl when it comes to cold and hot weather as far as shrinking and expanding? And then it wouldn't fit as well in the space??

    • @ODwith3BM
      @ODwith3BM 4 года назад

      Not if you purchase quality products. Since shutters are installed inside the home, the dramatic exterior temperature changes are not drastic inside the home. Sure there might be some small amount of variance, but overall it should not effect the shutters. I have seen some vinyl shutters suffer the effects of severe heat out here in the South West deserts. They can soften and sag under extreme heat. Most quality shutters now have extra webbing and support to minimize any deformations. But when it gets to be over 150* in the windows, vinyl will be effected. Not sure how that works in extreme cold, but I have never heard of any cold weather deformations.
      Hope that helps.

    Thank you for your video. I am still confused, though. Is it possible for you tell me the difference between composite shutters (made by Graber) and polywood shutters (made by Sunburst). Are they similar in terms of durability or is one better than the other? Thanks

    • @ODwith3BM
      @ODwith3BM 6 лет назад +1

      Short answer, yes. They are similar in durability. Each manufacturer has their own secret formula for making their composite material and each claim it as the best. Both are good quality. They also offer different options, so one might have a better solution for your home. I would be more concerned with the company you purchase them through and the installation team that will be installing them. That is just as important.

    Is it wrong to use Oak? Is Basswood that much better than Oak ?

    • @ODwith3BM
      @ODwith3BM 4 года назад

      No, it is not wrong. Just a more expensive and a completely different look. Basswood is a great wood for carpentry because it has such a fine clear grain that it can be painted or stained very easily. It also has a very good strength to weight ratio. Oak is heavy and has deep grains. It is also much harder to work with. Generally we use oak for specialty jobs that want to match other oak in the home.

    I take it that all shutters block light entering into a room/building no matter what? I am tempted by them but my windows are only small so might be better with blinds or nets to maximise on light as these can be drawn to uncover the full window whereas shutters look like they protrude and need to be shut when fully expanded.

    Is composite the same as Poly?

    • @3blindmiceusa
      @3blindmiceusa  9 лет назад +1

      +SophidB Hey there! Thanks for your interest. No, composite is not the same as poly. That is because composite shutters are a mix of wood and synthetic material. Meanwhile, poly shutters are made of a poly resin material that makes it lightweight and easier to maintain. Here are the poly shutters we offer: 3blindmiceusa.com/products/window-shutters/faux-wood/
