There's also the Dunning-Kruger Effect, which basically is the phenomenon of intelligent people doubting their potential and stupid people having undeserved confidence.
Its not about intelligent people doubting their potential. Well it’s probably because stupid people think they have it all figured out and intelligent people are always trying to figure something out. One thing about intelligent people is their mind never rests. Intelligent people are more likely to have depression because their thoughts are always rushing through their minds and not a lot of them aren’t pleasant some ever scary. I’m now a real estate agent for one of the best teams in Indiana with multiple big goals but the closest one is to own 5 investment rental properties by the age of 25. But for a few years I worked in a grocery store in a college town around a bunch of other college kids who have no idea what they’re doing with life, some dumb, some smart and some just drifting through life. Wow dude, you really showed them. For someone who wants to take the piss out of people who overestimate their intelligence, you brought up a rather high brow way to say “they think it don’t be like it is, but it do.”
I like to make distinction between Intelligent people and smart people... Intelligent people are those who by definition of the word "intelligent", have high cognitive ability and do great in their academics and go to top colleges and get the highest paying jobs. And smart people are people who can see through the bullshit and they are the entrepreneurs and people who might not do amazing in their school life but are smart and maybe spiritually aware... You get the type. And obviously some people can be both and some can be neither.
Smart is a synonym of intelligent. I believe what you are saying is something my dad said to me many times... not sure who he might be quoting here: "Sometimes being smart with the books ain't so smart."
I have a friend who’s been diagnosed with being over intelligent. He’s taking antidepressants, and has been declared not fit to work. He was working as a waiter. This is in France.
I like to watch Joe's interviews and see if any of his intriguing guests have books. It's a pretty cool way of understanding how the guest thinks and makes the reading a bit more easier to comprehend.
One of the steps of enlightened learning is the revelation that even those widely believed to be "unintelligent" still have so much they can teach you.
Alex Tasane , wow. You probably never smile back at world and are pale skinned from sitting indoors too much busy correcting and judging the world's ethics online thinking ur some type of enlightened or superior being over human nature .... HA!!!
If you're not intelligent, your first step is to understand how intelligent you are and be honest with yourself. Pretending you're smarter than most will prevent you from growing.
Being humble about your intelligence can prevent something called the Dunning-Kruger effect which i see more frequently in others the more i learn about the world. People who earn titles such as "Dr" etc are susceptible to this because the official recognition by an establishment retards their growth. They think they know everything there is to know.
@@wtfisditvoorbullshit Yeah, I'm mostly intelligent in patterns and math. But for a while, I thought that meant I was smarter than everyone in every category. Someone proved me wrong and I had to consider my own intelligence in comparison to others.
Humbling your self and listing to other is a great. Even if I'm way smarter then that other person they most likely know something that I don't know, especially older people.
Why though, you're trying to figure out how to become a more intelligent person, and you're looking for ideas. Sure, you could be reading a book, but are gonna pretend that idiots arent also writing books. C'mon people this whole " if I'm reading a book it means I'm smart" cliche is getting old.
I'm very grateful to Joe Rogan. His willingness to admit what he's ignorant about and to ask others for their understandings is so important for learning from and building relationships with people. Sets a great example
Smart people are overrated. There's probably like a thousand that will blow your mind. The rest are just smart people who have put a lot of time into the field of their choice
Street smarts vs book smarts. You could go to philosophy class for the next ten years and still not have a true understanding of the “big picture”. Someone who has gone through actual hardships understand themselves and the world around them better than anything else and are generally more sensible. That’s the problem now is that too many people never had to deal with any sort of hardships physical or emotional and it makes them read things to try and understand but they never truly learn.
Has anyone else that feels that they are pretty smart wondered what type of brain power some geniuses have? When I did a heroic dose of acid once I could think faster and about more things at once, I was thinking about things my brain off acid couldn’t grasp. When it wore off it just seemed like I could only see part of what I was before. So I’m wondering if Elon musk and people like that have an even more open mind that lets them play with ideas in their mind like a little workshop

Spook because in Europe education is taken more seriously. College in North America is often seen as the “easy way out” when compared to university. Many college students don’t care about school plus our education systems are very different
For 1000th time, education has very little to do with intelligence.First you have to have it already and secondly become a problem solver, work your brain and body, eat right, increase your oxygen capacity, sleep right, learn yourself to learn others and then you will make progress.
That actually makes sense since possibility of getting smarter is a false and ridiculous claim, while getting in good shape is possible and acheivable.
Got to recognise a narcissist then. It could be you, it could be them. Yep . A good question you posed there. Good folks are assholes sometimes. Bad folks are …… hiding behind being good. Self preservation is best to follow in that instance . ☯️
One way to get smarter or gain knowledge is by going at your own pace. If you see school as a prison or a big waste of time, you're not 100% willing to put your heart and will into it. Find a way to find learning fun and easy for yourself. *Remember. The key is to go at your own pace. That way you learn whenever the fuck you wanna learn*

This comment section is the Dunning-Kruger effect on perfect display.
Haha good call.
Wow dude, you really showed them.
For someone who wants to take the piss out of people who overestimate their intelligence, you brought up a rather high brow way to say “they think it don’t be like it is, but it do.”
@@durma6924 The unaware irony contained in your sarcasm...👌🏻
@@durma6924 I love that interpretation of the dunning Kruger effect
@@durma6924 lmao that's basic shit, not even high brow
Joe * let’s take dmt and talk about womenspreding “ Rogan
@@BC-yd6dl I know smart is a synonym for intelligent... It's just my way of looking at it.
I have a friend who’s been diagnosed with being over intelligent. He’s taking antidepressants, and has been declared not fit to work. He was working as a waiter. This is in France.
Imagine how things would play out if the roles were reversed in this scenario. Rogan is street smart and capable of adapting to anything
How to be a Smarter Person: Read more books instead of listening to Joe Rogan.
Underrated comment.
Hop off the vid son.
I like to watch Joe's interviews and see if any of his intriguing guests have books. It's a pretty cool way of understanding how the guest thinks and makes the reading a bit more easier to comprehend.
facts
Podcasts and books are great ways to educate yourself
Daddies back...get CRAIG FERGUSON and MIKE ROWE on the show .. please
I searched for "Pod Cast Intelligent" and Joe Rogan popped up. YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME.
Smart people stick together, odd that Joe doesn't know this lol
you got down w that one!
Funny but Joe is almost always surrounded by smart people. Maybe not physicists all the time but smart altogether...
I see them alone most of the time
I never thought a thumbnail would showcase a meme.
Now that's big brain
Joe, you’re the man. Thank you for saying the first sentence in this video. This has been my struggle ever since moving to the States.

That's a smart thing to say. Are you speaking out of experience?
I feel like if I l’m watching a video on how to get smarter then I’ve already failed.
Why though, you're trying to figure out how to become a more intelligent person, and you're looking for ideas. Sure, you could be reading a book, but are gonna pretend that idiots arent also writing books. C'mon people this whole " if I'm reading a book it means I'm smart" cliche is getting old.
Watching your videos make people smarter!
...but theyre not much help with grammar.
Don't take this the wrong way Reggie but I just want to shave your head.Wish my dog made me feel this way. He needs it bad.
You need to shave that mammoth testicle hair off you're face and stop worrying about a dog.
This is really rich coming from the dude possessing the facial abomination that is your beard.
That’s the problem now is that too many people never had to deal with any sort of hardships physical or emotional and it makes them read things to try and understand but they never truly learn.
hahaha i'm sad that you don't know how silly you sound. And even sadder knowing that comentering this will not change your mind.
Charlie Chaos very solid counter argument bud. Just call them silly and walk away. Very powerful stuff
@@walterwhite640 Yeah, like your answer is any better. I can see you trying and failing just as much as me.
Charlie Chaos what are you talking about failing? You okay?
The start of this video is so relatable it gave me chills.
Tommy Shelby has the burden of being incredibly smart.
I can't find any intelligent friends I'm literally surrounded by idiots.
Intelligence is knowing that everyone around you knows about at least one thing better than you.
I need more cool people around me !
The Hopis grew corn, beans, and squash in the Sonora desert with no water at all. Peach trees as well. Also a crap load of chili peppers which is the same family as tomatoes. You can grow tomatoes in the Sonoran desert.
If your smart and know what’s going on then you most likely depressed....
The upside is after Depression sinks in you can find coping mechanisms and adapt mentalities that can help. Studying philosophy was massive for me.
True i see patterns in live and think stuff throigh the whole time

I have someone that is not caring about his future and just living life like everything will go okay but I don’t know how to raise his awareness
Oh, you described me in beginning of vid. I dont leave the house often, now that I am retired. People are dumb as sheep. Baaa...baa...baa...
So glad you typed the 'baa' three times. When you said sheep I wasn't sure which animal you meant but the 'baa' drilled it home. I'm dumb like that. Dumb like a cow is dumb. Quack... quack... quack...

How to get smarter: Study music and read a bunch of books.
Study music or Study, music
study art in general tbh. All forms of art are the most expressive forms of human communication you can experience and so have the most to teach

I have the answer, learn with experience, And read books. Don’t go to school.
go to college to get laid, go to the library for an education.- Frank Zappa
@@Rand_al_Thor372 is it rlly that easy to get laid in college in america ? Because it isnt in europe
@@Rand_al_Thor372 Good advice. I did it wrong.

That actually makes sense since possibility of getting smarter is a false and ridiculous claim, while getting in good shape is possible and acheivable.

Always act like the dumb person in the room. That's the secret.
I think people should just strive to always learn more or become better at things they want to be good at.
How hard is it for real intelligent people (especially specialist in a certain field) having to bite their tongues with so many Dunning Kruger yappers?
You can't be totally truthful and pragmatic..... Bruised egos and resentfulness develop and petty thinking and passive aggressiveness slithers in.
On which part he did communicate how to be smarter, I couldn't find it in the vid
