Just getting going on this pedal. So good. I have two pedal boards, but I could see building five new patches each week for the songs we are doing at church and just using this. The board this is on also has the midnight Strymon Compadre, Deco and el Cap, along with a standard Flint. Needless to say, this board covers everything. And that’s to the patch Tuner 2 on patch share, I just use Zoia for tuning duties!
Would love learning what you did at the end on the foot switch. This has been an awesome tutorial. Do you plan on making other videos? I’m in over my head but motivated by how limitless the sound potential is in this little box.
TheTrueMantis Shoot, that’s kind of a bummer. I tried really hard to make it on a basic/intermediate level. Was there something in particular that would have made it easier to understand? Was it too fast?
@@aBunchOfPedals I thought it was great, but I'm familiar with modular synthesis and programming! Maybe an overlay showing the connections as you make them? I guess when you're using it it's all in your head, but when watching a quick video you don't have that kind of mental model of what you're doing. The basic idea that you're building modules then connecting them, and that that's a bit like having physical pedals or control boxes and wiring them together, once you have that it's all easy but that's a bit of a leap in itself.
Tom Oinn Thats why I blew up the LED screen a little bit. You’re right though, a little diagram would be pretty damn helpful. I’ll give it a shot for the next video.
Well, I'm not that familiar with programming, even though I have Korg Minilogue and I've learned quite a bit with it, but I feel that is just small scratch of the topic's surface. And modular synth business is something I don't understand at all at the moment... Any way, I think your video was great but maybe the hardware we are speaking of is too high tech for me so to speak. Or I'm just stupid.
@@TheTrueMantis I'm in the same boat :) I totally hear where you're coming from. Just having this thing around has been a learning experience.... that sent me down several RUclips rabbit holes. I also have a Minilogue (my only synth) and I really don't know what I'm doing.
So I have my eye on this but I haven't been able to figure out if I can add my own sounds to this and use it as a stand alone type of instrument? Is that correct...it has it's own internal computer or sdi card....and I can add my own sound packs?
It's not a sample player, so you cannot add sounds to it in that sense. It can generate sounds from its patchable synthesizer, it can create effects, the synth modules can control external synths, external audio can control internal signals, and it can loop, but recorded loops are not stored after power-off. But, if by "own sounds" you mean "own patches", then, yes, you can make them all your own, and you can play it standalone.
Ah, so that's what it does, I mean, honestly they had me at 'giant pedal covered in flashing lights' but now I actually know what it *is*.... My wallet is hiding in the corner, trembling slightly.
Tom Oinn This is just some simple effects. There’s way more in here. MUCH better preset effects and you can do synths. It’s kinda crazy and I’m sure I’ll never figure out 100% of it.
@@aBunchOfPedals Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. I found the module index pdf from Empress and found out that the delay line can be set from 1ms all the way to 16s (!) plus bpm - so...my Zoia arrives on Friday. lol Now, hopefully my reservations about the cpu resource usage turn out to be overblown and they continue to be able to optimize the code and bring us regular updates. Anyways, thanks again, man - love the channel - especially as someone whos just getting into the whole guitar pedal thing as a non-guitarist. You really provide some great information.
theorist Thanks dude! Glad you found out the info you were after. I’m sure it will continue to be optimized, they already released one update with a significant drop in cpu usage.
You said "don't worry... We'll get there" three years ago, but you never got there, and your Zoia patch links are all broken. Thanks for the quick how-to, but I was hoping for a bit more depth.
Stéphane Bonnet No problem! It’s gotten a lot better so I think (don’t know for certain) that it will improve as time goes on. It’s come so far from when I initially got it.

At first, yea it could be. But I didn’t really know a lot about this stuff when I got it.... a little practice, time and effort (like everything else in life) will get ya there! It’s really not so bad after putting in the effort.
Extremely clear and useful for this Zoia noob! Thanks so much!
Glad you found it useful :)
Mine is coming in the mail today. Super excited. Thanks for this video! It really explains a lot. That dual delay sounds absolutely stunning!
lou karon That’s awesome to hear! I’m glad it can help you discover some of your own cool sounds too. Thanks for the feedback :)
As always, super helpful! Thanks for putting this together
Nathan Schneider Thanks dude! That’s so awesome to hear, I’m glad it helps.

very nice work and super helpful. just got mine today.
Wow excellent presentation, it’s so nice to hear guitar applied to the newer modern and sophisticated pedals. Sounds amazing!!! The Zoia is on my list
Howard Anderson Thanks! I’m hoping to have a little more time for a few more tutorials like this.
Sounds good
Oh yeah - this is the good stuff. Screen punch-in is great too. Nice chorus riffing at the end!
sound isles Thanks! I’m glad you dig it. Woot woot!
I play guitar and synth, and this thing bridges the gap between both. Can't wait to get one.
Nicholas Greenwood This thing actually taught me about how synths work. It’s a pretty amazing box.

ZOIA is great, but there should be an easy API for programming or a software app to edit those modules faster.
I have no idea what I just saw, but I still enjoyed it!

haha, thanks! I'm glad it was helpful.
Very helpful video, thanks!
That’s awesome, glad it helped you 😊
@@aBunchOfPedals please drop some more if you can, that’s one of the best on YT.
THE FUTURE IS NOW AND I CANT AFFORD IT.
Micah Phillips It’s a pretty slick box no doubt!
Whats the best way to go between move between dry/wet????? I find most eff to be waaaaay to wet on this one!
Great demonstration! Would inverting the phase of one channel of the stereo chorus eventually become obsolete as the LFOs approach opposite phases?
Devon Thanks, glad you dig the video! Honestly I don’t know the answer to that question.
Thanks ✅✅✅
You’re welcome, glad it helps :)
Great .......
Thanks for watching!!!

Juan Abadi Possibly in a later video but not likely.
Where did you get those patch cables??

Is 1sec really the max delay time? Thats a little disappointing if Im understanding that correctly.
When I made this video I'm pretty sure that was the max but it might have been updated.

Every time I watch a Zoia review, I see a lot of button pushing but not enough playing. What is going on?
This is a tutorial video to help out new owners.
Definitely neat but I think this thing is too complex for me, I'd rather not spend so much time learning how to use it.
Someone Else Believe me, I felt the same way but once you get the hang of it, there’s soooooo much to to do.

So is the clip in the background made with the zoia or is it just to see what’s happening?
I'm not sure what you mean exactly. All of the audio was processed through the Zoia.
Two delays, one pitch shifter and one filter eating one third of its ressources :/
Stéphane Bonnet I’ll let you know how it runs with the firmware that ships with it.
Thanks, I hope there's room for optimization, the concept is great and I was among those who were waiting for its release !

Keep in mind how tiny it is. If it were rack sized then it’d have rack level processing power too - but it’s pedal sized. 🤷🏻♂️
