  • Football Manager 2020 is deeper than ever. Nowhere is this more obvious than when in charge of one of the game's biggest clubs. The analytics, the staff, the wall of players, the mountain of money -- all accompanied by huge expectations and superstar personalities that need managing. I go over how to set up your large club, then keep it together.
    The challenges faced by big clubs in FM are so different from their smaller counterparts it might as well be considered a different game. It certainly looks like one in the match engine. If you have been worried about taking on the challenge before, this video will make you not feel that anymore. (what a rhyme)

    On the Subject of Scouting and making your big transfers count:
    Go to your Team and identify the weakest positions in your Squad. Set your Scouts to Scout for players in that position with First Team ability, scout until full knowledge. Use the compare Player tool to compare the scouted players to your player in that position and to each other, this allows you to see exactly which players would be an upgrade and by how much.
    Now add all of the players that would be a significant upgrade to your shortlist and whenever one of them becomes transfer listed, puts in a transfer request or gets in trouble with their manager you will know.
    General tip for managing big clubs is to never give older players (29+) more than 2 year deals, except when they have like 20 natural fitness. You don´t want to have an Alexis Sanchez situation.

    Great vid
    A few years ago in FM, I was drastically oversigning and had to set a rigid set of rules.
    Max 5 incoming transfers/season, no exceptions, and never sign anyone in midseason window.
    This keeps team cohesion high, more players get their chance in the first team (because of injuries/suspensions)
    If I sign someone, they are to fill an urgent need in the first team. I rely on my youth system to provide long term prospects from in house, so even the young players I transfer in need to be good enough to contribute right away, regardless of circumstances.
    I have found in FM that surgical precision is far better than a scattergun approach, quality over quantity.

    • @stephenmason1028
      @stephenmason1028 3 года назад

      @@tmaki6 unless they are good enough to come in to the first team right away, then no. And at a big club, this is very few players in the world that can do that at a young age. But that's another benefit to only signing 5 players per year. Your transfer budget is being spread on fewer players so you can really splash it out every once in a while on special talents.

    "Don't sign a ton of young players". Completely disagree. I always stockpile youngsters worth about £1 mill, loan them out for a couple of seasons and then sell them for £20-£30 mill. Basically what Chelsea does IRL. It's become one of the key aspects of my entire business model. Kind of shady, I know, but this is FM. Who gives a f**k?

      It is debatable whether Chelsea are turning a profit on most of them. They have lost quite a few world beaters due to the fact they would like to sell and not wait for a year or two to give that player a chance, like De Bruyne for example.
      Barcelona are a very good example of a bloated youth team - they have some very good players there but because there is outside interest in those and they are offering some good wages, Barcelona have either to pay them between 50,000 to 100, 000 a week for a bench warmer or let them go. They are losing some very good players because they do not want to pay competitive salaries nor offer them regular game time.

      8wayz2shine The best example of a team buying youngsters to sell for the future is actually Juventus. They buy and exceptional amount of kids every year who they sell to other Serie A club for big profits. It’s what keeps them from getting in FFP trouble.

    • @mancunian87
      @mancunian87 4 года назад +5

      Yep, I agree with you, I think stockpiling can be turned into a business model. Not just because you can sell the players on for a profit after loaning them out for a couple of seasons, though. There's another way that hasn't been mentioned yet as far as I can see, and that's monthly loan fees. Getting roughly a €100k monthly loan fee for players who are decent prospects shouldn't be a problem. If you do this on a large scale it adds up - in my current save I make A LOT of money just with loan fees every season.

  • @bobdillion2141
    @bobdillion2141 4 года назад +10

    I only ever scout prospects and sign every young player with a 5 star pro, play as Watford make 150+ Million every summer from loaning them out and selling the ones that drop below 3 star pro on top of selling the fringe players from squad replaced by best youth from my team and just repeat every summer, Just won the champions league , prem, fa cup in my 6th season won the fa cup twice now the euro cup twice.
    Have a wage bill of 4.1 million a week with a stadium of 27,500 seats but moving into 41,00 in two years time and have about 6 players 4.5 ability or higher and just signed Mbappe for 155 million.
    Not used editor once and not saved and gone back into a game to change a result and Liverpool won the title on my game 5 years running before I just won it.

    I needed to also thank you for a past tip you gave about not just releasing all youth players if they start with bad pro, I had a centre midfielder start with 2.5 star pro and has now grown to be 5 star pro after 2 years in under 18's and then one year on loan to a championship club guy had 20 determination and was professional and just got better and better and will soon become a player for my starting team he just went out on loan to laliga top team where his due to play regular meaning he could come back with 4 or 4.5 star ability at the end of season at just 19.
    That tip has now made me sign every single youth player that's comes into my setup and give them a year or two on youth contracts.

    • @stephenmason1028
      @stephenmason1028 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, I never understand why people threw out these young players immediately. Firstly, they are all club home grown players. That's something you can't just create in the game. Secondly, they are on peanuts wage, and their salary will be so low that unless you are a very, very small club it will not mess up your financial situation. Lastly, your Head of Youth just met them! Yes, HOYDs with very high judging playing potential will have a more educated guess, but it is still just a guess based on very little time, experience, and info with the players.

    Shortlists and patience are your best friend regardless of what club you're at. Keep good players on a shortlist, even if you might not need them, or can't afford them at the moment. There will always come a time when a player wants to make a move, or when your transfer budget allows to ger him. In my save I ended up at Spurs and there was a regen that was the perfect replacement for a then 30 year old Harry Kane at Leicester. Naturally they wouldn't just let him go so I waited for 2 seasons until the player wanted to move and I had just sold Moise Kean to Barca for 140 million. So after 2 seasons of biding my time I got a Harry Kane replacement that ended up being the top scorer of the premier league for 5 seasons in a row for 60 million instead of the 100 million price range that he would have been worth. Patience and shortlists.
