I have one of these but it suffers from the problem that heavy rain on the roof runs back round the rear door opening and turns the groundsheet into a small pond, which unsurprisingly my dog objects to. There are drain holes but these are insufficient to cope and also of course allow the ingress of water from the ground.
You are right that water is channeled on the roof either side and runs down the back of the car and into the tent. To solve this dam off the roof channel at the very rear with a silicone bead which then directs the water forward on the car instead of down the back.
0:32 for a quick shelter use it without the pegs and poles. For a quicker shelter just stay in the car! Can't see those rubber suckers holding if the wind gets down the side and personally, it's so small I don't think it's feasible!
We’ve got a bootjump & use it often. Just ordered a boot tent for a bit of privacy & protection from the weather. For how much longer it takes to strap or to the car & add three poles I think we’ll be using it that way all the time while we are touring around. I think Amdro come up with some great gear.
Does water not run down the poles where they go through the top of the tent? I'm wondering if it would better to have the pole eyes on webbing outside of the tent itself? Overall though, the boot tent tent with a tarp attached to the poles would make a really good covered camping area.
The water does run down the poles and the suckers don't stay on. I have got some pole stops that fit over the metal they seem to work just a faff on. all the material seems good also used a ratchet strap all the way around the edge that makes all the difference hope that's some help to everyone regards
the thing that's being suctioned to the back of the vehicle(boot tent) isn't that really a shower or bathroom tent I've seen people use them for different ideas
Thats too small to be of any real use. Not long enough to sleep in. Not wide enough as living space. Put any heat in it, it will be drippong with condensation and I wouldnt want to be buggering about getting those straps and hooks on in the rain. Waste of time and money!
Thank you for your comment. The boot tent has been designed for a specific purpose. Correct its not long enough to sleep in, you sleep in the car with our boot jump unit. Its big enough to stand to put your clothes on in the morning in privacy. Its big enough to cook out of the weather. Big enough to use a portaloo. It can be thrown up over the tailgate without any straps and poles to give instant shelter from the rain. The straps can now be clipped onto the roof rails. Iwan

What do you mean by a silicon bead? Can you buy it to insert and reuse it? Where is the ‘roof channel’ where you insert it?

Anything bigger and you'd be aswell just camping in a normal tent 🤨 this is perfect for micro camper life !!
