My club recommends 2-3 seconds of silence before keying up the conversation to allow resets and ID.

The smart way to set it up is a lower volume cw id during use...meets LEGAL requirements for repeater id

Some machines will halt ID if interrupted, and restart at the next stop of amateur transmission.
