I saw this movie three weeks before being told I had cancer. The whole time I was in the hospital I hummed this song. One day when my baby brother came to visit me he sung this song for me and a cried my eyes out. This song has stuck with me for a while the actors are so good and the song Misty Mountain is the best of the whole soundtrack.

Please note, this trailer is the quintessential hobbit trailer. I deem it the trailer not only for the first film, but for the series itself. I love this trailer. I will never forget the leap my heart had when I first heard those dwarves singing.
I think even though it doesn't have the same darkness as LOTR, it still maintains the feel of an epic journey through a vast and dangerous world with very lovable characters. And that's probably what most people enjoyed about all the films.
I taste the soda I drank when I watch the trailer and the feeling of excitement I got and goosebumps all over my arms. Damn it’s been years and I still remember the day I saw this.

Tbh I’ve always been so confused on whether the lord or the rings and hobbit are completely different movies or linked ?? Can someone explain it to me ,sorry I probably sound so dumb but I also love the hobbit especially the first one
For all fans of Peter Jackson`s adaptions of Tolkien`s "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" I can only advise they watch the extended versions of the trilogies on DVD. Having seen both versions, i.e. the originals shown in the cinema and the later issued extended versions on DVD, one can only say that the stories are more rounded off and logical, whole scenes and even characters being included which were completely left out of the cinema versions. It is really worth buying the extended versions on DVD or Blue Ray - you will ger your money`s worth of fantastic entertainment.
For me personally the song "Far over the misty mountains cold" was the best thing about all Hobbit movies. Gives me chills and has perfect atmosphere. But the movies... read the book instead.
yes because at first there were supposed to be only two movies . And Peter Jackson later decided to make it a trilogy and had to cut some of the scenes .
Lubin Laurent Nope the clip is Gandalf fighting thrain in Dol Guldur and that is in the extended edition of the desolation of smaug. The shot of gandaf striding across the bridge is an unfinished shot from the sequence in the theatrical desolation when he enters dol guldur.
PowerfulPorpoise honestly it could have been one. There’s only one hobbit book, so one movie for it makes since. They didn’t make three movies for each lord of the rings books even though they are longer than the hobbit
I guess no one will read this, but just allow me to leave this here. So I wasn't much of a fan of Tolkien. I didn't even know him until I became a fan of CS Lewis. My cousins told me to watch Lord of the Rings before, but I never finished the first movie: Fellowship of the Ring. And then COVID-19 happened, and I watched a great deal of movies. And lo and behold I am glad I watched LOTR. I wanted to slap my younger self because I didn't appreciate the ART and MAGIC of LOTR. I loved the movies. It will forever stay in my heart. And then I watched the Hobbit. I was contemplating at first whether I should watch it or not because of the haters. But my Middle-Earth heart made me do it. Sure, it wasn't LOTR. It had its own magic, and its own flaws. But you know what? These movies made me interested to read the books. And now I am starting to read Lord of the Rings. I was quite shocked to read that the story from the Hobbit movies were also taken from the Prologue of the Lord of the Rings book. (This is for those who said that they didn't based the movie from the book). Listen, sometimes movies will not include a full depth of the books. We just have to deal with the limitations. So what's my point? My point is let's enjoy these movies that allowed us to appreciate Middle Earth more. It may not be perfect, but I would be lying if I said that it didn't touch my heart. It did, and it will always do. Stories of friendship, camaraderie, sacrifice, hope, family, adventure and love will always be what LOTR and the Hobbit will remind me of. And I will forever treasure these beautiful memories and lessons in my heart. I hope you do too.
Dear Random: Yes! The most important thing is that you took Tolkien's original messages from these films, and they got you to read the books and experience Tolkien's magic firsthand. You do have a Middle-Earth heart. I first read the books in the early 1970s. Lord of the Rings is so hugely epic that I came to think it needed a Cecil B. DeMille to direct it, with the kind of respect yet an eye to theatrical appeal that you see in the 10 Commandments. I think Jackson did his best to convey this while preserving Tolkien's original messages.
0:50 - From this moment on, this trailer becomes the most epic thing about the entire Hobbit trilogy. I think. Unless the third one can nail the moments that made the original films chilling, like this moment does.
The third one was... meh. Maybe it was just because I had a headache that day, but it was pretty much a really big battle the entire movie, but I think I liked the second one better.
I was 9 years old when i watched this movie with my dad in the cinema and can still remember how happy and excited i felt watching this movie... Watching the hobbit or lotr always feels like coming home💙 though i honestly didn't think that its been THAT long that the movies premiered.. crazy Where did all the time go?!😩
I remember when this first came out. I had just read the book and loved it. I grew up with the Lord of the Rings movies. I knew Bilbo and after reading the book I knew all the characters from this story. My mom called me into the room and said she needed to show me something then proceeded to put this trailer on. I don’t think I ever screamed as much through a trailer as I did when I saw this one. I was so happy I even began crying I think. When you grow up on these stories and suddenly see them brought to life right before your eyes... it does something you.
2 clips on this trailer are from Desolation of Smaug 1:35 Gandalf goes looking for the Witch King in the mountain tomb 2:10 Bilbo finds the ring after it fell of his finger while fighting the spiders in Mirkwood
0:39 Legolas taking Gloin's stuff 1:17 Gandalf in Dul Guldur 1:53 Gandalf entering Dul Guldur 1:57 Gandalf fighting Thorin's father Thrain in Dul Guldur
The criticism was too harsh indeed. The movies had a few problems, also the source material (book) is nowhere near the level of LOTR, but it's still great trilogy.
My favorite thing about these trilogies is how they showed NON-fans what they’d been missing out on for decades. Millions of eyes were opened wide in such an incredible way. That kind of effect was truly beautiful and I know it will continue for generations.
You hit the nail on the head! I only just finished reading The Hobbit today for the first time and I'm now reading The Fellowship of the Ring. After that, I'll read the next two books in the LOTR series and then watch The Hobbit/LOTR movies. I've missed out on one heck of a franchise but better late than never!
@@NoahClevinger Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I’ve been a fan of these stories since my grandfather read them to me when I was little. I remember going to see the first film with him over twenty years ago in theaters. Sadly he didn’t live to see the whole Hobbit trilogy, but insisted that I share the books with my children. I’m really glad you’re actually reading the books. It’s wonderful to hear that someone else has joined the Tolkien world. I really hope you enjoy them and the movies as much as my family has. ❤️👍
@@ironfae I’m glad to hear how much the series means to you! Thank you for welcoming me into this beautiful world that Mr. Tolkien has created. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the books and movies are all about.
I was once one of those NON-fans. I had always heard about how great the books and the original LOTR film trilogy was but for whatever reason I just didn’t think I’d be interested so I simply didn’t give them much thought. Then I remember going to see The Dark Knight Rises in 2012 on opening night, and this was one of the trailers preceding the movie. To this day it’s one of the best movie trailers I’ve ever seen, I was blown away at how good it looked and soon after I was hooked. I began reading the books and watched the original trilogy and loved every minute of it. I went to go see The Hobbit on opening night in December 2012 and it’s still one of my favorite movie theater experiences ever
@@kellijones6481 Thanks so much for your story. It’s always great to welcome someone new into the world of Tolkien. I saw the first Hobbit movie on opening night too. I took my grandfather who first read me the books when I was a kid. I really enjoyed watching it with him. Unfortunately he passed away a few weeks later and never saw the whole trilogy. Since then I’ve been reading the books to my own son. He was named after my grandfather.
You may see difference between this trailer and new Amazon's. Here you can see adventure screaming from the screen. In Amazon's LOTR you have some writers twisted vision of this beloved world pushed to your face.
Seven years later, this trailer still gives me goosebumps! Even though the films didn't deliver (by a long shot!), it kinda doesn't matter. This trailer still brings me back to the years of excitement and anticipation for a new Peter Jackson adaption of Tolkien, which in a way was far stronger than the anticlimax the films actually turned out to be. One could actually argue that this trailer did more for my cinematic enthusiasm than the films itself, and as the time goes by, maybe that's enough. In a way, this trailer was the real masterpiece of the Hobbit films.
I always found it cool that the scene at 0:39 was from Desolation of Smaug. They were at least almost done filming the 2nd movie and used a scene for the first movie's trailer.
You can say what you want about these movies but i will never cease to say that The Hobbit trilogy feels like the true Middle Earth just as the original trilogy. The new tv series does not.
4y later lol. I really don't understand the hate this movie gets. I'm reading the book now and everything they've changed was really fitting; and the stuff they added was done faithfully for the narrative. I even love the new show the rings of power so maybe I'm the crazy one😂
Same. I want to rewatch the movies so badly (they have their flaws but I love the characters) but I always cry my eyes out at the end of part 3 and am sad about Thorin dying and the general nostalgia of the whole LOTR/Hobbit movie era for days afterwards.
This is one of the best trailers ever made period. The use of music, the lines they chose to tease us with, the visuals. Have to say, it’s a bummer how these films turned out because this trailer got me so hyped it officially remarked my love of Tolkien and started an obsession with his work for the first time.
First watch this, after thorin says to gandalf " nor I'll responsible for his fate" it comes literally chills. Then watch the Power of Rings trailer, I don't know you but I was just like completly "wtf I've watched right now??" :S :S
On my weekend after a long and exhausting work week. I'm eating supper and and just had a desire to watch the trailers for all six films. Thanks to that, I'm firing these films up and starting my Middle-Earth journey once again from beginning (An Unexpected Journey) to the end (The Return of the King). God, I miss the hype surrounding these films. It was as magical as the films themselves.
Kale Hook When I think about it, it's not THAT bad, it's definitely better than most movies. I guess I was just extremely disappointed with how little they actually followed the book. And all the made up stuff like Radagast, the white orc, Legolas and that other elf are just AWFUL! It makes me mad watching these movies when I see how much potential they had to be as good as Lord of the Rings.
Kale Hook It felt stretched out and was waaay to long for it's own good, has an uneven pacing, many boring characters (I don't really care at all about the dwarves), it's visually repulsive with all the CGI and shit and some parts (like Radagast) just feels childish and out of place to me. It's bad, but at least it's not star wars prequel bad.
Hard to believe its been 3 years since this first trailer for the Hobbit trilogy was released. Now all three films have been released. Boy, does time fly! While I'm aware that the general consensus for the Hobbit films is that they didn't quite live up to the legacy of the LOTR trilogy, I still think they were pretty good. They might've made quite a lot of changes to Tolkien's story, but the LOTR trilogy wasn't a completely faithful adaptation of its source material either.
This trilogy was fire. I’m grateful that I grew up being able to witness another trilogy ( and probably the last ) from Peter Jackson. I was too young to fully grasp the LOTR trilogy, but I was able to see this in my early teen years and I had nothing but awesome memories seeing these films in theatres.

Unexpected Journey - aside from the Goblin King who has a giant ballzack for his chin - was truly an awesome fantasy adventure. Then, Smaug was utterly amazing in #2. But #3 just... draaaags onnnnn. :-/

Thanks so much for your story.
Anyone notice how the second to last scene in this "unexpected journey" trailer is the scene from Desolation of smaug?
Just watched the trilogy and I already feel lost without it!!
Even after all these years, this trailer feels like home.
Never has a fantasy movie looked so realistic. Fantastic.
Its more like alternative medieval
@@twinkthatloveslotrtrilogy7676 no it isnt twink who loves lol trilogy Lol
2:17 Sends shivers down my spine
This trailer gets me hyped.
Why ? It was 8 years ago
This gives me the chills , I remember when this came out watching it in theatre with my dad, miss those days.
holy fuck that is a fine ass trailer
such a greatest family movie 😭❤️
You may see difference between this trailer and new Amazon's. Here you can see adventure screaming from the screen. In Amazon's LOTR you have some writers twisted vision of this beloved world pushed to your face.
When that song hit, I knew nothing was going to stop me from watching this in theaters.
This Trilogy>>> whatever Amazon is doing
Still goosebumps.
Underrated trilogy.
Agree!!!
LOL nope it was awful....Star wars 1 comparisons . Mail in film making with cartoon CGI
This movie is still amazing, anyone who has not seen it must see it
I love it but a lot of people hate on it idk why
Damn 6 years since the first movie was released. I'm greatly honored to have seen all 3 movies in theaters.
The trailer was SO WELL DONE
This trailer still gives me goosebumps especially with the singing. The trilogy overall grade a C.
Just saw the third one...when it comes out on DVD I guess one could have a 2 night marathon watching the Hobbit AND LOTR!!!
Watch the Extended Version
*I really miss this movies...*
*One of the best trailer ever made*
Came here to get hyped for a quarantine marathon - have all 6 movies in collectors extended edition it's gonna be epic
Thanks for your comment
You can say what you want about these movies but i will never cease to say that The Hobbit trilogy feels like the true Middle Earth just as the original trilogy. The new tv series does not.
I freaking love this movie. The extended edition is such a masterpiece!
4y later lol. I really don't understand the hate this movie gets. I'm reading the book now and everything they've changed was really fitting; and the stuff they added was done faithfully for the narrative. I even love the new show the rings of power so maybe I'm the crazy one😂
An Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug were very enjoyable
Might be the best trailer I've ever seen. The movie is superb too.
I've never heard Jim Moriarty and I've read all the Sherlock series, so I must have missed something.
This is a very old comment which is cool
Hah cool comment
Cool comment
Can you explain what are you trying to say?
@@niteshm6 I truthfully have no freaking idea. I was probably making it up as I went along
Damn. Rewatching this trailer makes me want to ugly cry. All the emotions came back!
Its fate.. not faith brother.. I felt the same😊
@@christabel2003 Thanks man I'll edit my mistake :)
0:50 I need a trailer to make me feel the way this did again
1:48 best soundtrack made ever!
Has it really been TEN YEARS???!!!
I wish the movies had turned out to be as good as this trailer.
How was it so bad?
The prequel hasnt camebout yet though.
Kale Hook The Star Wars prequel are Episodes 1, 2 and 3. They came out years ago, dude.
Watching in 2019 for nostalgic purposes. Taking me there and back again.
I'm currently on page 192 of the book, and i cannot wait to watch this movie! I can only hope i do soon. The book is fantastic.
Sir, have u read it 9
the nostalgia hit me like a truck my g
Andrew RIGHT!?
Public Lemur bruh the middle-earth movies the best ones ever created
Andrew Indeed 😄👍
I enjoyed watching The Hobbit movies just like the LOTR movies 🙂. I don’t care what anyone else says about it because i liked The Hobbit movies .
Thank you everyone who participated to create such a masterpiece!
Great work you guys!
This was by far the best of the Hobbit series
It says "The Desolation of Smaug" at 1:33!
Of course it does, it's a location in the map they're given.
@@franciscorendon2783 wait, I don't get it

I love the triology!!
I remember when me and my uncle heard heard about this movie and then we watched the trailer an hour after it was shown. I missed school for these movies
Unexpected Journey - aside from the Goblin King who has a giant ballzack for his chin - was truly an awesome fantasy adventure. Then, Smaug was utterly amazing in #2. But #3 just... draaaags onnnnn. :-/
+Michael Reeder hobbit 3 was the best for me.
they shouldve killed smaug in 2 though
The third hobbit was the weakest, but I still found it enjoyable.
@@garrettdalleyii527 I hated that they didn't include the funeral of Thorin with his nephews being buried with the Arkenstone in the theatrical cut. That was how you say goodbye to those character not via off screen talk.
Too bad the trilogy didn't have the magic that this trailer did. At least what I think.
I think that An Unexpected Journey did, at least.
Yes it did. Rewatch it
Unexpected journey is nice and has some magic. But how better it could be, if they stay with just 2 movies...
Please people. Give this movies love before Disney buys "Lord of the rings" and make some shity trilogy that will make us realize how good "the hobbit" actually is.
