i still wonder how Kevin got the kiddie chair in this it makes my knees hurt just seeing it lol there's nothing to say about the music we all know its phenomenal!
The song really caught fire at the end of the first verse when Kevin's beats kicked in. Mitch got to add his personal flourish, Scott got to show his rich, lower range, Matt got a short solo of his own and brought the heft of his smooth, beautiful bass and Kirstie never looked or sounded better. Honestly I can't think of a better looking or sounding group in music today. Thanks, DS, and have a great New Year!
I very much like your honesty. I think PTX continues to grow and change and will eventually morph into something very original and great (although they are great now)
I must admit I also still miss Avi, but I understand why he decided to go do other stuff. Matt certainly is growing on me with a lot of the more recent performances, so clearly PTX knew what they were doing when they added him. I think you should react to some of Kevin's KOvers. Like "Down" and "As long as you love me". Hard to believe he wasn't that sure about his ability to sing early on, and he sure knows how to operate a looper. Superfruits's "The Promise" is also very good in my opinion.
This is a different kind song for PTX, but I loved it. These seems like something that would be in a movie or on Broadway. I love all 5 of them. I loved Avi, too. They make me happy.
Please react to their mash up of New Rules and Are You that Somebody. This is a relatively new one for the ages. From the older stuff, I highly recommend La La Latch - another mash up.

I know you had mentioned on one of the Superfruit reactions that you preferred their sense of spontaneity over the more "rigid" structure that a lot of PTX arrangements require. I just wanted to point out a few PTX songs that you might find that quality a little more evident in. The originals 'Sing' and 'Can't Sleep Love', the mashup 'La La Latch' and cover of Clean Bandit's 'Rather Be' are all a little "looser" and the members seem to be enjoying themselves more.
I'm a bit late to the game on this, but I think that might be because their older videos were with a different studio (if I'm remembering correctly), and they did a lot more themselves. They might be under more pressure to look "professional" now, which takes away from the spontaneity and fun factors. Live, they definitely still seem to be having fun. I saw them last May, and they looked like they were having a blast. It's just the videos that seem different. Their arrangements are definitely complex, though. If you check out Dan Satter's channel, he breaks down some of their newer and a few of their older arrangements, and they got even more complicated after they worked with Jacob Collier and Manhattan Transfer. Some of their arrangements are actually modal instead of tonal. The music geek part of me loves it. (Please excuse any mistakes I might have made with spelling or possibly leaving out words. I can't see well this morning. I'm having some sort of nasty allergic reaction.)
When you get a chance Avi Kaplan has a song Aberdeen that is interesting and a new find for me Diana Andrinova is an amazing vocalist with an unique voice

Avi? My first love. PTX gave him the strength to become the Basso he was meant to be. Matt? Precious to a fault... can you even begin to realize the amazing task that lay before him when first he attempted to take over for Avi? Imagine the catalog already amassed by PTX -- and Matt bravely took on the herculean task of perfecting his continuing performances while learning all the years that Avi left behind! Pentaholic? That's me. Your reaction was half-hearted...as if your thoughts were elsewhere. You can be forgivin. Praise should be heaped upon Kevin for Come Along!
Did you happen to react to "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch"? That was amazing in concert and on the official video! The Theatricality was fantastic and Matt was amazing! This number, in concert, is so mind blowing I think a live performance from any of their concerts last summer would make a mind blowing Official Music Video! Felt like I ate the wrong cookie and went down the rabbit hole! There's exceptional talent here, even with the change, and I am enjoying Pentatonix so, bravo for them for not giving up when a member quit. And I like who they hired. Matt is judged worthy or unworthy to be on that screen singing every time he opens his mouth. I'm sure Dimash can sing higher than Mitch.. why isn't Mitch getting deemed unworthy to be in Pentatonix every time he opens HIS mouth? when you said you should probably stop saying that every time you watch Pentatonix I think speaks to a different observation... the fact that you DO bash Matt every reaction indicates you simply do not enjoy the group's direction they've chosen to go with Matt as his talent lies in different areas. I think that look on your face says you dislike the group and want off the ride. Perhaps you should consider that possibility? Because you look miserable.. and that's sad. ❤️ Have a happy New Year!

There's always at least one person that comes for me everytime I do a Pentatonix video, this time I bashed Matt because I enjoy the original lineup more. I even said in the video that I need to stop doing that and give Matt his due....still not good enough. I dont know what to do

It's not as bad now but it's still a bit grating for a lot of people. So people will leap to Matt's defend on reflex. You're entitled to your opinion obviously, but I just wanted to give some context.
Its funny cause every song that Matt is on you go crazy. I saw you pee yourself on the "are you somebody" cover especially Matt part... But you keep saying you not the biggest fan of Matt...(this line up) Avi is awesome no doubt about it but Matt is doing a great job.

There is something special about his voice. I think that they have just changed the types of songs they do now that are more suited to Matts's talents than what they would possibly do with Avi. I think that is the difference. I truly do appreciate Matt's talent but will always have a soft spot for Avi.
I am a fairly recent subscriber to your channel and you have become one of my favorite reaction channels to watch. I never understand when people get upset at reviewers opinions/reactions. I think people generally enjoy watching you get excited and seeing your funny facial expressions when you hear something you like. Some other reviewers react just to react and it's more about them than the song they are reacting to. I for one appreciate that you are honest and your reactions are genuine one way or the other. I happen to agree with you and miss the magic that "meat and potatoes" Avi and Kevin used to have with every song. It seemed like they always had a moment or did something special in every song. And I miss Avi's rich deep voice and the unique aspect he added to the group. Matt is a wonderful talent and has a beautiful voice but is more of the traditional bass that supports the rest of the group which is just fine. But to me the creativity of the group with Avi as a part of it is missing. With that said this is by far my favorite song with the new line up and one of my favorite Pentatonic songs overall.
