    DEI can't compensate for continuing long term neglect of problems. BTW, the South Pole, Kilamanjaro, Greenland and a few other places are not floating on water and have significant ice melt.

    The 1990s wasn´t a great time for democracy, in fact in the West it´s when democratic rights started to recede substantially (the only ones that have improved are LGBT ones). Things like the right to strike, freedom of speech, freedom of association have all deteriorated since then, the 90s and the 00s was when France began it´s crackdown on freedom of religion.

    Pinker is a rare example of a person that consistently uses logic and evidence.

    On second play this makes much more sense :) Just for giggles - in the D:3 beer:21 puzzle I would think the relation between D and 3 is meaningless, whereas you have to be over 21 to have beer, which adds information that leads you to intuitively make the right choice - as he says right after.

    maybe irrationality is not just a 'disease' to cure but also something to preserve in human nature

    • @Minimmalmythicist
      @Minimmalmythicist 3 месяца назад +2

      there are times when irrationality doesn´t do much harm, i.e If you support Liverpool FC just because your father was from Liverpool, there´s no harm in that.
      Tribalism is one of the things that makes team sports fun. The problem comes when you try to use your tribal instincts to solve complex political issues and that´s exactly what is going wrong now.

      An academic that sticks to stats can be maddening. Itdrives me crazy that Steve uses stats to say the world is doing much better. One that branches out to opinion, say Jordan Peterson, even more so.
