This has been a matter which my husband and I have been puzzling over lately. Thank you, Pastor Alistair, for clarifying the Lord’s meaning in this lesson. As God’s people we are called to have an unexpectedly gracious and loving response in all situations, aren’t we, particularly when we are slighted, lied about, or even threatened. We are also called to “stand firm” - not in a stubborn way, but in courageous defence of the truth and righteousness. If we practise such a mindset now, we will be better prepared for that day when serious persecution knocks on our door.
