Can No. 19 Illinois stun No. 9 Penn State at Beaver Stadium yet again?

- PennLive's Max Ralph and Bob Flounders analyze unbeaten Penn State's Big Ten opener with unbeaten Illinois. PSU is a heavy favorite but remember: Illinois beat the Lions in State College as a heavy underdog in 2021. Will veteran linebacker Dom DeLuca play against the Illini? Plus, game picks.
Even if PSU was ranked #1 people constantly hope or wish for an upset. It’s laughable. There’s a reason PSU goes after better talent. U expect 4 stars to show up and play. The constant negativity is numbing. Take ur visors and go home.
There’s more positivity at Kent State than Centre County
Good schemes by the OC & DC so far. Quick, in-game adjustments will be critical from here on out.
I think this game is gonna be like the last couple years when we play a Big Ten West team in a white out. The top going into the game is that it’s gonna be close and the other team is good just like Iowa and Minnesota. And then I think we’re gonna win comfortably. The narrative will be just like the West Virginia game to where everybody’s talking about a possible upset and how good Illinois is and then after the game, it will be well. They were never actually that good Penn State should win that game.
If Allen continues to resist this change. He's a problem and should humble himself. If the kids can't hear him clearly and they state Dan Comes through clearer. Stick with the change. Franklin needs to call it and move on.
The line hasn’t moved an PSU is -600 on the money line. This ain’t 2020.
Bob, don’t be such a goof!!
IL played a crappy Kansas team, which outgained IL. IL should have lost to NEB, which gave it away with TOs. IL offense only scored what, 16 pts? They had that pick 6 vs NEB, right?
Everything is telling me that IL & NEB are still mid-pack Big 18 teams.... despite the early-season hype.
Illinois is a legitimate team. They have a good QB. Bielem likes hard-nosed physical football. I doubt they fade in the second half like BG did. Instead, I believe they will keep grinding away. Penn State does not want a close, fourth-quarter game. Illinois can run the ball and Altmeyer is dangerous. They could eat the clock, control the ball, and score when it hurts the most. Bielema wins a lot of games late. Penn State has to get a lead and keep adding to it. Never look back.
Tom Allen is like Coach Cajun Guy from The Waterboy…
A few years ago he didn't talk like that.
@@brettk9316 I had a better voice a few years ago too. I only have one young dude to yell at! 🙂
Illinois had an incredible offensive line for running the ball. They had a solid NFL running back who probably had the best day of his career. This game will be nothing like that game. Perhaps it'll be a passing war. I don't think they're going to be able to penetrate and wear out our defensive line like they did that year
Illinois has a really good running backfield. They have two 250 pound monster backs that were bowling balls against Nebraska in the 2nd half, and two good very fast explosive backs. So they can tailor their run game according to the defense they are facing. This assumes their run block offensive line works, it did against Nebraska in the 2nd half.
The interior of the Illinois OL is not good. I’m not worried about the run game. Zane Durant will have a great day. Deluca should play. Jason Cabinda style..👍
We will learn a lot about this team on Saturday night
I agree, but I think we are up to the task!!! WE ARE 🏈 Unrivaled 37-13
These guys are way too focused on the spread. Focus on the game. Penn State 35 Illinois 17
Yeah I have same score prediction.
37-13!!! WE ARE 🏈 Unrivaled
31-16 🦁
Did any of you Pedo St. fans attend Penn St.?
I like PSU in a dominant win 38-17. Drew Allar has a big day and this is his national coming out party.
This is not 3 years ago!
Where Illinois run game dominated for a total of 10 points!!!!!
@@therealzeel3081 ah a classic big ten stat
Reading between the lines it seems like the communication issues in the Bowling Green game were because of Tom Allen. I don’t know if that means his voice just wasn’t coming through or that he wasn’t focused on getting the play call in because he was on the sideline.
It was voice. Watch the Kobe King interview from yesterday and you can pretty much pick it out.
Illini by 10.
This game will not be close Illinois offense is not great they are in the mid 80's in the country. If this game is close Penn State is going to lose 5 or 6 games this year
You can use stats all you want but the fact is, last week they put up 31 against nebraska who is a very good defense. Unless they seriously regressed nebraksa is definitely top 20
You’re grossly overestimating the UI offense 16 against Kansas (7 was a pick 6) and ball st. And Fiu put up more on Central Michigan than Ill. Not seeing the juggernaut that you are. This feels like 34-17.
Ball State?
How about PSU 31 ILL 21?
I will take it, a win!!! I personally think 37-13!!! WE ARE 🏈 Unrivaled
Franklin lies!!
Ummmmmmm excuse me. Allar is a better QB? Interested in why you claim that? Who has thrown for a better completion %....Altmyer. Who has thrown zero picks......Altmyer (and he has played 1 more game than Allar). Suggest you review the stats, prior to making a blanket statement like that.
Allar is way better…
@@jackstraw6880 ....and getting better every week. If he keeps this up there will be no tears in the postgame OSU interview...and that will ruin Allar's draft stock.
@@jackstraw6880I'm just curious?! 💭 How isn't Altmeyer the better QB?😂
@@gregoryhelton2408he’s not bad, he’s a great qb, there’s only a handful better. But it just happens that Aller is one of those few.
@@gregoryhelton2408allar is going to be a first round pick for a reason. Elite alarm. He’s improved his running ability greatly.
