I bought my first 2 Anthurium back in February for my birthday, both after recommendations from you. One of those was the vittarifolium, one thing I have discovered about this plant is that when it’s producing leaves don’t allow it to dry out as the leaves don’t develop and grow flat they become curved, similar to what happens to phalaenopsis orchid leaves if the don’t have sufficient moisture when their leaves are growing.
Hello Memo. We've grown multiple varieties of anthuriums(including Crystallinum) in our living room (no cabinet, no humidifier) here in the Netherlands with success across the board. Supplimental lighting and chunky semi-hydro (self-watering) work well for us.
Memo I believe you’re so right about the “beginner friendly” Anthurium vs more “seasoned growers” for anthurium! If someone wants a “Queen-like Anthurium” that’s more hearty and super easy going I would also love to suggest the Anthurium Zamora Queen! She is so resilient and easy going that it’s freakin ridiculous! 👏🏼😂
Interesting observation! 🤔 Could be a hybrid indeed, never questioned it as it was sold to me as a forgetii, I don't even remember how it came into my collection, now that I think of it. Anthurium genetics are fascinating! 🌿
Your Warocqueanum is such a stunner! I thought I might also add, if anyone is struggling with keeping a Queen alive, get a Warocqueanum hybrid there are some really good ones like the Warocqueanum x Marmoratum I find to be very hardy and easier to ship.
Thanks for sharing Memo, some lovely plants! Have to say I love your NoID - I'm a sucker for a wide sinus! I have most of those and pretty much agree with your evaluations. I live in the UK, in an old building next to a river with single glazed windows that don't open - my flat is 90% humidity all year round, and can get very cold in winter. Aside from slowing down over winter, they seem to manage ok. I do supplement lighting, and in summer use a fan. For me, the Queen would get a lower score - mine melted after I missed 1 watering (was a less mature plant than yours though) so I replaced her with a queremalense. I'd score my forgetii higher but it seems I'm getting faster growth. I'll leave you some info of how I'm growing my most mature one in case it helps someone. I have a few (I know you won't judge 😂). My largest forgetii pushes 3 or 4 10" leaves a year, and so far this season I've had 3 inflos (due a repot tbh). She's in probably medium light (lower than I'd like, but she has to sit on the floor due to size). She's hungry! Until I worked that out I only got 1-2 leaves a year. She's also probably one of my most forgiving plants - if I'm late with a watering she slows growth, but not aborted a leaf yet (touch wood). I have her in pon, just because that's how she arrived and she seems to like it - most of my others are in chunky mix. You mentioned the sinus. My mature plant has a fully closed smooth sinus. I chopped another last year into 3 chonks & interestingly 1 of them had closed sinus from the 1st leaf, and the other 2 chonks had open sinus until about leaf 3. Looking forward to part 2 🤩

Love antheriums. I have both chrystallinum and clarinervium and I like them. The chrystallinum has more problems with me with emerging leaves. The last one is distorted again ( from small leaf and when inflating the distortions also inflate ). I love my pallidiflorum , queen and veitchii and have gracilis and vittarifolium seedlings. I am still looking or a forgetii . All live in my living room at approx 60 percent humidity
Hi Memo, very cool video :-) I´m very much looking forward to the part 2 :-) I´d like to expand my little anthurium collection, so this is great inspiration for that :-) I have 3-years old A. clarinervium: The longer we are together, the better it gets - finally it has leaves of my head size, it produced its first seeds and doesn´t get angry anymore :-D It hated: Czech winters, our heating, my soil mix, me watering it too often, my moving it anywhere from its favourite spot (it started loosing leaves immediately). Only this 3rd winter it finally didn´t go dormant. After 3 years, I can say that it loves: Soil Ninja´s Anthurium mix, frequent repotting/big pots (it´s size 22 cm), to nearly dry out, to be left alone and bloom in peace :-D I bought A. villenaorum last June as a plantlet with 2 leaves and a good amount of spidermites. Nevetheless, spidermites caused only cosmetic damage, it always grows and blooms well (even in winter), has now 6 leaves and is very easy going. I grow it in Soil Ninja´s Anthurium mix and let it dry out like clarinervium - it seems to like it. Then I recently got a tiny A. vetchii (impulse buy) and planning to get some more slow-growing compact anthuriums (lack of space).
The Crystallinunm grows ok in regular house conditions; I have a few & I don’t use a humidifier or greenhouse cabinet. This time my scores were on par with yours Memo. Looking fwd to Pt 2.
That unknown looks like maybe a pedatum or pedatoradiatum mum and maybe a velvet like maybe a clarinervium pollen? It has Delta Force leanings to me not that I know much! It’s gorgeous. I really love how broad your anthurium collection is and you have many of the unusual shaped green ones. I will be going back to this video series regularly. Really helpful / insightful for Anthurium newbies like myself. Totally agree with your review & ratings for Clarinervium, Crystallinum & Vittariifolium - which I bought in that order. Looking forward to ‘part 2’.
I also prefer the King to the Queen - I'm just not that big on velvet leaves and silver veins! As well, I love my vittarifolium - I didn't check it for a couple of days and it's flowering - I'd rather have leaves - should I snip the inflorescence? I recently brought a metallicum into my collection and I do really enjoy it. It's about as fuzzy as I go! Oh! I'm having great luck with the pedatoradiatum! I've got her in no drainage semi-hydro with a moss collar and she's putting out leaf after fingery leaf! I think I'll be moving some of the more moisture-loving Anthurium to no drainage with lots of room to spread those roots! Have you tried this method? I have a gracile in the same set-up and it just put out a new leaf with another on the way. These plants are all growing in my bedroom with a humidifier and grow lights. They see no natural light as I'm a sleepyhead vampire. They should have no clue it's spring but they're popping off like they got the memo somehow... I love this video. I have several anthuriums myself, species and hybrids. Even the Clarinervium, which is doing really fine. It is blooming right now. I agree on the Chrystallinum. It is an easy care plant indeed. My favorites at the moment are Bessae aff, which is very dark green. My darkest plant. Also the easy going Pallidiflorum and a hybrid named Jungle Boy. I grow my anthuriums in my living room and they are doing fine.
Anthurium video, yay! I fell in love with the vittarifolium a year ago after reading the Plantopedia book, it is one of my favourite plants ever and it has completely shifted my interest in Anthurium from "meh" to "ooh" 😊 I have since acquired a bakeri, forgetii (that may be a hybrid, to be determined), pallidiflorum and another favourite: peltigerum (for which I cannot figure out how it isn't more popular). They are all growing in regular room conditions next to an eastern exposure window with additional light coming from a southern skylight on the other side of the room. No complaints so far, other than the vittarifolium producing one leaf and inflo after another so I don't know when I'll get to moving it into a larger pot without damaging something, which is certainly a good problem to have 😅 Have you tried pollinating the vitta yet?

Also love vitrarifolium. It’s just the easiest and most rewarding plant. Great to know veitchii is a good doer. If you think of it would you mention in a video what your ambient humidity is in Spring Summer in the grow house. Where I live only rarely dips below 50. Normally 60 and above (coastal Ireland - rainy climate). I’ve a small Queen that’s struggling in ambient conditions but am determined to wait it out and see if it will adjust. Not going great so far tbh !
I love the hybrids and it's a rabbit hole. The Queen dark/narrow was actually my second or third. I did SO much research, bought it and it has 4 leaves now and it's gorgeous. I had it in my Milsbo. That doesn't look like a Crystallinum on video - the veining looks green and the lobes are spread a bit far. Maybe a Mag?
Can't wait for part 2. I've just put a second order into Ecuagenera which includes a Anthurium esmeraldense. Definately want to add a veitchii now after watching part 1. I have a Anthurium vittarifolium and a Anthurium pallidiflorum. Really interested to know if you have both and what your thoughts are?

Ha ha, bought the anthurium villenorium as an add-on as I was trying anthuriums for the first time b/c didn’t want to spend a lot to try them. The villenorium went down hill fast. Tried saving it in FLuval but it died. My crystal x mag-crystal went down to a stump and is coming back. Radicans x lux is ok. Best grower is Regale x nigrolaminum Gigi. Want to try a pallidiflorum next.

Not getting that until until I have the right set up. I do have a small vittarifolium, leaves are only 30cm, but does well in my East window. I bought a baby villenaorum, it's largest leaf is about 10cm 😅 but I do find that each new leaf is considerably larger than the last. I bought it because of the triangular petioles. My big thing in my home environment is space, space, space. And finding the plants what I call is Happy space, level of care, time and maintenance. I do love anthuriums, but I am careful of their care and love.
One of my personal pet peeves is knowing my plants lineages or form. Most of my plants are not sold with plant names, etc...with all the prices and hybrids out there, it is cool that you can get one more affordable than some of the highest priced anthuriums
Any anthurium from Mexico isn't going to want wet feet. They're the outliers. Crystals can adapt to household conditions but they will throw a fit initially. My Magnificum hasn't missed a beat. She was part of my first import and acclimated without any problems. She's now in cataphyl and growing beautifully.
Hmm... that one unknown hybrid you got kinda looks like the A. 'Delta Force'. The main signature look of an A. 'Delta Force' is the more pronounced triangular-shape than other Anthuriums.
I have crystallinum, veitchii, queen, big bill, pedatoradiatum, vettariifolium all growing at regular household humidity. And I have killed my villenaorum in an instant.

I notice you have loads of sachets of beneficial bugs so can't use chemicals - what products are you using to spray the plants down when they have mealie bugs or other pests?
Good observation, I usually get the sachets as a preventative during the season so I do not need to spray. if I need to spray for Mealies I find just pure rubbing alcohol to spot treat and then remove the mealybugs seems to work well and not disturb the predator bugs 😊💚🌿

I think your Forgetii is actually a Forgetii hybrid. The lobes and the silver going up the leaf is what is making me think this.

Good observation, I usually get the sachets as a preventative during the season so I do not need to spray. if I need to spray for Mealies I find just pure rubbing alcohol to spot treat and then remove the mealybugs seems to work well and not disturb the predator bugs 😊💚🌿
