I too, am a Ralph Lauren wearer! The classic! I can spot a Ralph Lauren from across the room and am drawn to it. I love classics.
Love that!
1. Talbots
2. Gap
3. J crew
4. Boden
5. Everlane
6. Ralph Lauren
7. Burberry
8. Vince.
9. Lafayette 148
10. Tory Burch
11. St. John's
There's the hero. I think they forgot to add this in the description.
I'm a Talbot's fan and fanatic. Real classics and beautiful clothes at a great price. I wish they would go back to using more 100% natural fabrics vs. blends. Also like vintage Gap clothes from thrifts or consignments because the quality is very high.
Yes! Nothing worse than polyester and it seems like so many stores are full of it now.
Agree. I have been shopping Talbots for over 40 years. Even they are moving away from natural fibers.
Just curious about your thoughts on Pendleton & L. L. Bean. L. L. Bean may get a little stodgy, but their products are almost indestructible. Pendleton is finely crafted & has a West Coast/western flair.
Timeless classics all the way! Yes, Ralph Lauren is the best. If I could afford it, Celine, too, but I like supporting American designers. Thanks for doing this series!
I love how you explain the classic style and also talk about the various price points. I'd love to see a video about the bargain price points and how to shop them to save money but also look stylish and classic. You really have inspired me to up my classic game, thanks Beth!
I got my first Levi’s jeans at the Gap in North Beach (San Francisco) in 1974. We shopped rock albums there, too. I remember when Banana Republic was a small independent and use to send newspaper-flyer catalogs in the mail in the SF area.
Fun facts!
I was there too
Great video Beth. Could you do something on classic but modern hairstyles especially for older ladies?
Great idea!
I love how you feature JCrew. Their clothes offer great classic style and wonderful quality. Keep styling those terrific JCrew clothes and accessories.
Glad you like them!
Beth, you are a very inspiring woman. I was so sorry to hear that Mr. Style has passed. You two were obviously very aligned. You must miss him so much, but you're honoring him by showing us how to pick up the pieces. You are so classic.
Love all of your choices for classic styles thank you for your classy videos I look forward to them every time. You are a beautiful inspiration to me. 😊
Thank you so much!!
I have some of everything from Ralph Lauren to St. John in my wardrobe. I find gems everywhere.
Hello Beth I enjoy your videos thank you. I was getting worried you weren't going to mention my absolute favorite designer - Ralph Lauren!!! He's the best in my book. Thank you!
i have loved Ralph Lauren since forever!
I used to love the Banana Republic Sloan ankle pant back in the day when the pant had a cute small slit at the bottom. The quality took a dive (IMHO), so I switched to the Chatham pant at Talbots a few years ago. Talbots used to have wonderful quality pants that were even washable. But the Chatham from about two years ago did not wear/wash well. So for now I’m back to my old Sloans and wonder where in the world I will shop this spring. I need some new ones! I’m just a simple slender pant kind of gal. Who knew it would be so hard to find nice quality pants!
My wardrobe is all Talbots. But every once in awhile, I want a change. After watching this, I stopped by J Crew; hadn’t been there in years. What fun I had!
I’ve been buying Ralph Lauren since the 70’s
I also shop at Banana Republic, JCrew, Talbots, Ann Taylor & Everlane,
me too, LOVE TALBOTS!!!
Thanks, yes classic is timeless and beautiful. Thanks for share with us. Looking forward for the next video of the serie. 😊
Bought a Lafayette 148 linen "cargo" suit in Bloomingdales in NYC about 15 years ago. I still love it. He makes the best white shirts on the planet.
Also love Eileen Fisher and Marina Rinaldi for classics with a spin!
Looking forward to this series.
'Pure Collection' is also great for classics - especially cashmere cardigans and sweaters, Reiss also classic - but right up to date.
Good day to you beth.enjoybwatching your video.God bless you.
Yeeees i love you're purple sweater
Love Talbots, sadly they closed all the stores here in Toronto but for many, many years I bought from them and the pieces lasted for a long time because the cut was impecable and timeless.
Great video Beth. I would add J. McLaughlin to the list as well. They have a lovely classic vibe.
I really like Talbots and have shopped there for many years. Ralph
Loren is my favorite designer. Love the whole concept. I used to love Nordstroms and still shop there however I feel the quality of fabrics
Are far from what they had years ago. My grandmother was quite a seamstress and always pointed out what to look for in quality clothes.
I still find looking inside a garment
For quality important. I ordered from New York stores and found the quality there suffered as well over the years. I live in California and loved Buffums and Bullocks when they offered wonderful quality clothes. Loved your video
Hello Jean
Thank you; this was very helpful! It is interesting to hear the background behind the brands.
I buy Chaps from Ralph Lauren at Kohl's!! Thank you Beth❣️
Vince is my favorite. Also a fan of James Perse for summer pants. Surprised you didn't mention Eileen Fisher which used to be my favorite before I retired. I could count on them for comfortable classic work looks.
Great, informative video! I am a true Talbot's fan!
Awesome! Thank you!
I'm in the Uk and love your videos! i enjoy Marks and Spencers over here for their cashmere and quality high street classics.but sometimes they can slip into "mumsy" when I get chance to come over the pond I'll be bringing an empty suitcase and heading to Nordstrom-online postage ,from there, is a bit excessive but I have succumbed a couple of times .xxx
Love Everlane!!! I discovered them a few years ago. Their footwear cannot be beat. I also love the classics.
For fun and or colorful pieces, I love Anthropologie. Classic I like Ralph Lauren, Club Monaco and Burberry. Trendy I like Zara, And Other Stories. Inexpensive I like H&M.
I’m a fan of these retailers too, most offer a big range of sizes online which is so helpful! Currently loving the j crew items with Liberty fabrics! Would enjoy future video on how and where to shop your fav brands or selected items to order.
Hello Kathy
Love this idea! Can't wait for the next installment!
Coming soon!
Talbots not available for Canadians, unless you’re willing to pay exorbitant shipping and customs and taxes. LlBean and Lands End give excellent customer service and generally good quality, long lasting classics, good cotton, wool and cashmere. Some of those you mentioned don’t come in larger sizes.
I used to love Casual Corner. Hated they closed.
Hi Beth! OMG! Truer words were never spoken!! I must ask.........are we related? LOL! Our taste in fashion and decor are matched perfectly!! I can wear something that may be 10 yrs. old and without doubt someone will comment ...wow that top is so pretty or you look so nice. Since I was a teenager classic style has always been my go to! Thank you Beth for all your great advice! Have a great day! Hugs! :)
Love that!
Sharing the history of each of the brands you mentioned in this video was very interesting. Thank you! I love Talbot!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Beth, you look great, as always, . I love classic style so thank you
You are so welcome!
Love the classics
Love your channel . Your sweater today is my favorite color . Where is it from?
Can you tell me how the Boden tops run. True to size or do you size up? It would be helpful if when you show us clothes, you tell us what size you bought.
I used to drive by the Ralph Lauren ranch every day in Colorado on my way to work for years
I'm really looking forward to the rest of this series. Great video Beth! I would add to your list Club Monaco, although I'm not sure it's available in the US. My issue with any of these brands is size as I'm quite small. Brands like Eileen Fisher and Lafayette don't carry small sizes. I also like the Spanish based brand Massimo Dutti and Aritzia, which can both be quite trendy but also carry classic basics.
If I stray from classic styles I feel very fake - I actually feel silly in a romantic or overly modern style . Yes Ralph Lauren has some of the best classics - perfect shades of navy and camel always ! A lot of Liz Claiborne and Jones NY have been in my closet over the years too . London Fog has always produced updated classic outerwear and I'm still holding on to coats that are 40plus years old that I've never worn out . Often classic outfits benefit from a current shoe style or trending scarf colour to give them a bit of a kick .
classics do stand the test of time. your coat is proof. thanks for sharing.
Hello Barbara
Nic+Zoe is one of my favorite brands.
Take a look at Crown Princess Mary of Denmark for some inspiration too.
Love your videos.
I'll check it out!
Crown Princess Mary Is a class act all the way around. Positively classic beauty.
What a great video, thanks Beth!
You are so welcome!
I found a very nice dark denim Ralph Lauren Jacket at a thrift a few years ago
It’s so nice I couldn’t believe I found it
I’ve had so many offers to sell it
Nope I Love it‼️‼️🌸
That is awesome!
Hello Dear Beth, congrats great video. You are so pretty.
Yes, I'm classic style girl (full B,s)
I like Ralph Lauren😍
As you beautifly explained there are some classic pieces selling every where at all prices; which is great.
I totally agree with you, "investment" is a key because classic style is about timeless quality; as a result, quality of clothing is more important in this style than in other kind of style because in classic garments the lower quality is "more noticeable" than in other styles pieces. Lower quality in classic clothing can mess up the whole look. I think this is a disavantage of this gorgeous and elegant classic style.
Thanks for sharing your shopping stores.
Blessings⚘
Love Boden and reiss
Kate Middleton often seems to wear Reiss.
I love Joseph Ribkoff and Sympli, their styles are very flattering. I used to shop mostly at Chico's but once they started lower rise pants several years ago, I stopped shopping there as they didn’t fit well so I looked elsewhere. I still look at the Chico's catalog and online but haven't seen anything that makes me want to make a purchase. Unfortunately I must not be built for Talbot's as their designs don't fit me well.
Love your tips and info! Great video. Thank you!!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the great info! Great video! 🤗😍
You are so welcome!
Another great video highligting some wonderful icon women. I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. A few weeks ago I watched your video from Jan 27, 2021. You wore the "Diana"black sheep sweater. I wanted to rewatch this video but I'm not finding it. Is it still available to watch? I'm probably just not seeing the correct video. Thanks, Beth!
Oh my god, I was married on July 2, 1983. It was the hottest day of the year. Good grief! I love all the style icons you mentioned. I never heard of Bodin, I will check them out. I am a classic dresser, because I have worked in Hi Tech at corporate HQ as a Demo Dolly or Trainer in the Marketing and Sales department for most of my life, so I had to dress classic/professionally. I try to break out of my style every now and then, but I am just not comfortable in BoHo style, even though I have a white peasant skirt and a white off the shoulder blouse. I try new styles every once in a while, trying to get out of my comfort zone so that I might actually find something new that I might enjoy wearing and keep up with trends, so as not to look stogy and dated. I just bought a Tori Burch bag this past Fall, but I have only worn it outside once because I realized it would get ruined in the harsh New England weather. I put it away until Spring. I love St John's too, I have one skirt and jacket set that I treasure. My husband bought it for me one Christmas. Thank you, Beth. :-)
spring is right around the corner so time to pull out your Tory Burch handbag!
I love the style quiz. Combo of Rebel Rock Star (4) and Classic Beauty (3).
I am "Classic Beauty" according to the style quiz. This was so helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video Beth - looking forward to continuing this series!
More to come!
I also like Theory...classic style for all bodies, including my little petite one.
Love Theory!
@@BethDjalali Also Judith and Charles.
@@maryokeefe5351.
You should have been a teacher also, just love your delivery, cool calm and collected love, watching you.
Thank you! 😃
Wow interesting back story on Ralph Lauren, been a fan for years.
Same here!
Beth, you looked absolutely gorgeous in that Lavender sweater! I think Lavender is your color!
Oh thank you!
St John ❤️
I have noticed that more and more clothing manufacturers are no longer using natural fibers. I will not buy anything that is not cotton or silk. Living in a hot climate necessitates natural fibers. I am so frustrated.
Hello Gege
Your sweater is gorgeous on you.
Well, that was just lovely. I love me some Everlane too.
Thanks for shearing your knoledge you are very profesional, I admiral so much
Fan #1🙏👍
I appreciate that!
Hi Beth! Where can I buy those timeless classic jeans? Which of these brand stores have the best jeans for us? I think that I still need to find mine denim jeans.
Hi Beth,
Just curious what you think of Chico’s...
I used to shop Chico but have found their quality and style has diminished and the quality does not correspond with the cost - That is just my opinion - I prefer Soft Souronding online - Their styles are classic with a bit of an edge - They can be a bit pricey but have end-of-season sales that are excellent - I check back often and wait for the price I want to pay - As I said this is just my opinion
I just bought my first Chico s piece as I build my wardrobe. I purchased a a timeless ivory long-sleeved sweater. The quality is just beautiful, a cashmere blend. The sale price was around $33. I have worn it twice and just feel so classy! Hope it lasts for years! I will be checking back now and then for basics 🙂
@@robynferguson4070 Shopping sales is an excellent way to build a wardrobe - Coldwater Creek also has good sales and their styles are classic - Peace
i don't consider Chico's to fall under classic style.
@@BethDjalali I know Chico’s doesn’t adhere to the strict classic guidelines but they certainly do carry many of the basics you wear and certainly are better quality then some brands you’ve highlighted. I was just curious. Trousers, white jeans, tanks, and tees all come to mind.
I remember your video about your favorite movies depicting classic style. I finally remembered mine. It was The original Heatbreak Kid with Cybill Shepherd. Her wardrobe was beautiful and timeless. Have you seen it? Thank you for the best tips! You are beautiful, ageless and timeless!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽😘
i do remember that movie!
Thanks for this, dear Beth. I also love Vince. and Lafayette. Vince. IMHO is more relaxed than most true classics and a bit edgy and fashion-forward. Their silk blouses are to-die-for. Lafayette also has a lot of style, outstanding fabrics and very well cut. The fit is perfect, especially for we taller ladies. The drape of the clothes of these two brands is, to me, far superior to the others you mention. Or perhaps they just suit my body type more. Ralph Lauren is lovely, if a bit stiff. I don't find as fluid a drape there, perhaps because I am a bit bustier than average? I never found a really good fit with either J. Crew or Banana either, which to me is not the best cut. Perhaps I should give them both another look, as you never steer us wrong, Beth!
i would agree.
Chuckling at myself because I took the style quiz and I got two D's two G's two B's and an F. Guess I'm a little of three styles?!
Don't forget style icon, Melania Trump!!
Great suggestions!
😊
Thanks for the good information!
Any time!
I wish J Crew quality would return...it slipped and I haven’t seen a big enough improvement.
I have seen a noticeable difference the past two years.
I agree!
How tall are you, Beth. Love your videos
oooph, Talbots near my office just closed! ouch!!
I know your pain. They just closed my store in Colorado Springs. Lost its lease. Sad as it was a profitable store. No place now to shop. 😡
Beautiful lavender sweater! You look so cute!
Melanie Trump alway so classic and classy
Love yr videos
I failed the test. Total Confusion. Got every letter except E. But I do like to wear florals and prints. What does this tell me?
you like variety!
❤️👍
I love ur hair
😍😍😍👌👍
What type of neck line is the sweater you have on?
🙏🌿💐🌿👍👍🌿💐🙏
Sorry but I disagree about Talbots. Their fabrics are of poor quality and wrinkle badly. I bought a expensive sweater that tore at the neck and pilled. Other things I bought stretched out of shape and looked worn out after just a couple of wearings. Not for me.
I find Talbots is hit and miss. I have shopped there for 20 years!
I have found their jeans to be quality and have just plunged in on some new ones. But their cashmere sweaters pill quickly and some of the shirts don’t hold their shape.
As Michelle Obama wore JCrew no body wore Ralph Lauren like Melania Trump so classy!!
Michelle Obama wore J.Crew poorly. The tiny cardigans and A line skirts did not fit her body.
Melania did stun in Ralph Lauren.
thanks for sharing!
@amyelle smit Melania was stunning in her style, so proud of our First Lady, always looked classy and beautiful!
Why do these and even sellers always talk, talk, talk. B4 they get to point abt their own videos? This woman bores me to death SND I always stop watching. Guess she loves sound of her own voice. And she's not only one who does this.
Good day to you beth.enjoybwatching your video.God bless you.
