I have never heard the SA700, but AFAIK 220 MAX is not available anymore, but given the price points of each, it would be better to compare DX220 MAX to SE180, situation in which it would be complicated. SE180 is more portable and more practical, and also the sound is more smooth / fluid, iBasso has a more forward sound which can be more punchy but also aggressive
Currently working on my video review exploring it, written review is live here - www.audiophile-heaven.com/2024/04/ibasso-dx260-dap-epic-octa-dac-music-player.html
I’m not sure I have any IEM,s that warrant a DAP apart from maybe my Periodic BR. Question if I may, so I can I use a balanced cable on any IEM, my DAC is the Fiio btr5 and the balanced output is quite a bit more powerful and so I thought I may try it?
@@AudiophileHeaven so at the moment all my IEM’s most sub 100 usd apart from 2 came with standard cables, so how do I know if they are suitable and the same goes for headphones, so for instance if I wanted to use Sony wh1000mx4 wired ?
@@adrianmorrish8494 Balanced only works for IEMs / Headphones that have a balanced cable, and which are compatible with one. as far as I can tell that sony model isn't and it really dpends, you need 2.5mm or 4.4 mm terminations for balanced to work (?)
@@AudiophileHeaven ok thank you, glad I asked, I thought you could just buy a balanced cable for a pair of IEM’s and use the balanced port, did not realise the in ear unit itself was specifically made for balanced or not, when I read a description plus diagram it implied the cable was a self contained earthed unit itself not relying on the termination point which confused me, hence luckily I asked before I potentially caused some serious damage 👍
@@AudiophileHeaven Thanks, but I'm referring to DX220, not MAX (too bulky). Battery and to some degree, speed, are what's keeping me from getting the 220. But then again at the price range I'm not sure if there are better choice, especially ones with low output impedance (I have very low impedance IEMs).
@@yogiwp_ The UI speed is really good on the DX220 the original. The battery is ok, up to 8 hours if listening loud / switching songs a lot. Works really well even with really low impedance IEMs, should be a great purhcase!
@@noelsetterington648 Thank you! I think that this may be above DX320 std version, sonically, but as a DAP, if you need extended features, DX320 STD has a few extra versions, is smoother, for streaming, it is a slightly better option
For some people, Hugo 2 may be the answer, but you'd still need a transport for it, and it is larger, harder to use outdoors. This being said, since I heard both, I would say that DX220 MAX may sound better with most headphones and IEMs, the sonic quality iBasso managed to pull there is nothing to joke about!
Thank you but i prefer the classic types of portable dap, easier to carry and less hassle or not complicated one. Actually im eyeing for either ibasso dx90 or acoustic research m200, or if god permit maybe dethonray dtr1
Woah, that's possible, it is natural, not necessarily the most organic out there, it a very organic sound may be a bit less universal, hence why some companies go for a more neutral and all-friendly signature
Awesome preview of the Dap sir George! From a fan here in the Philippines!
Thank you, and happy to hear from you!!
What's better a astell and Kern sa 700 or the ibasso 220max

Hi. How about the Ibasso DX260?

if you just listen the review, you will think borat is reviewing dap now. lovely review/ impression as always!
Thank you! I'm trying to be a bit funny and unconventional , I think music is fun and should be treated as such! 🤭
$1888.00 USD here in my country. I bet this paired with the AKG K701 would be pretty epic.
Yep!!
Also, still worth its money I see 🐙
Hi.
220 max or 300???
Thanks
Sonically, DX220 MAX is still a bit better, but as a DAP, I prefer DX300 by a good margin, much better Android implementation, and much more practical
💕👍 big boys, big toys 🤣
Yesssss! xD
Hi, interesting product. What DAP would you recommend in the $400 category these days. Thanks much...
Hi there and thank you!
At that price point, DX160 from iBasso :)
@@AudiophileHeaven Thank you.
Wondering if it still makes sense to buy DX220 + Amp8/Amp9 today?
Yes, it is more ergonomic and smaller. Cheaper too :) . This one is a full sized solution , not as portable, but better sounding.
@@AudiophileHeaven How about compared to recent competitor releases? Also, is battery life and OS speed a concern?
@@yogiwp_ battery is super good. OS is not the fastest

Hi. Is this a better sounding dap in comparison to the ibasso DX320 standard version? God bless you Noel

Oh yes, also heavy, 1 KG !!
I whoud rather buy Chord Hugo 2 nearly for the same price and be super happy...

Try it, if you have the chance ! Also, don't worry, iBasso also had smaller DAPs, like DX160, or DX220

sure the price is vastly different
