Glad I stumbled upon this video. I saw a beautiful parka from tnf on eBay and it was from overseas Japan. For some reason the summit series tag looked off to me. I compared it to a few north face jackets I have and the sleeve comparison you mention. Long story short I didn’t buy it as that jacket had a tight sleeve summit series tag. Tried to ask the flag ship north face store but they didn’t know anything. Definitely do research
They’ve gotten better at making fake North Face items.. for me.. the smell out of whatever box you open after getting it in the mail from places like eBay or Amazon; is a dead give away. If the item has a strong chemical/factory type smell it’s not the real thing. Once you smell the smell of Chinese factory you never forget it and it’s identical across the board… the smell I mean.. it’s not like gasoline smell.. hard to describe. It’s like sour glue, fresh nylons, and clothing dye. North face items do have a sort of chemical smell but this will hit you in the face. It’s something you know if you put on without washing it’s guarantee carcinogenic.
Not really a question of age. Like I've mentioned in other comments a small segment of TNF is made for Asian market. These Korean made jackets often have summit series on the right.
@@vintagethrift5147you don’t say. i was in denial because i’ve paid RM230 which about $53 and the summit series logo is on the right hand. Then i checked the tag is in Korean which relieves me
just bought one of these jackets and i have my summit series logo on the right, because there is a side pocket with zip on the left. also have a goretex logo on the left wrist. goretex performance shell tag on the right hip. the etiquette inside doesn’t have the men/hommes that i usually see on my tnfs but it has this excess tag under the summit series, 100. haven’t used it at all im still on the process of checking all the tiny details. If you can tell by my description of its profoundness thank you in advance
A floor up to last post based on your video not all jackets have the summit series logo on the LEFT sleeve solely. The north face Met 5 battery operated jacket they released has the summit series logo on the RIGHT sleeves and I’ve concurred with some other collectors that some jackets have the logo on either side
You're right, and as I've mentioned in other comments there are Asian market jackets that have the summit logo on the right. TNF might also be producing newer models with summit logo on both left and right. My tip mostly applies to North American and euro market jackets from the 90s-2010's
Both are not actually original per se... One is a high class 1st copy(with higher level of perfection to detail) , while the other is a "budget" option. Those who have been to Asia and in particular Nepal, will understand. The seller, outright tells you while selling, quoting which is "original", 1st copy and a budget option.
I bought a child’s summit series jacket and it doesn’t have a logo on the arm at all. Is it possible it is authentic without an arm logo? Everything else seems to look authentic
What you say about the Summit series is not correct. The earlier original jackets did not have the red Summit Series logo on the arm. For example the Arctic Baltoro 600 and the 800 Baltoro expedition did not have them. The similar 700 Himalaya and later Baltoro models began having the red logo. Also some models have logos on both arms, including of course the back shoulder. Plus all the original legitimate jackets have a North Face retail number and partial date of manufacture.
What I say applies for the majority of jackets. The colour of the summit series logo is irrelevant. I spoke of placement and quality of stitching on the logo itself. There are no jackets to my knowledge that have summit series on the back, it's only on the arm.
@@vintagethrift5147 You are not understanding what I said. Firstly, I am saying there is NO summit logo on the arms of earlier jackets. Also when I said 'logos' on arms and back I was referring to the North Face wording logo (on back) and other logos on the arms depending on each model. The main thing is that it is certainly not true that all summit series have the Summit logo on the arms, so that part of your video is completely misleading for people buying true original Summit models.

Hello, I have some concerns about a North Face Denali Jacket I purchased second hand. The embroidered logo has some connection points. However, it has ykk zippers w/ the logo attached to the main zipper, the buttons on the wrist say the north face and it has a hologram tag. Do you think it’s fake? Thanks
Hi! The connected lines aren't an automatic giveaway that the item is a fake. Only when there are other factors present. If you send pics to my Instagram @vintagethrift514 I can help you out. Thanks ✌🏼
Hi, i used to own a mcmurdo parka (1st gent) and recently bought a new one (which supposed to be the old one as well not II or III).And there are a few different things on them ,such as the filling label on the right arm "550".The old one does not have it for example. Do you think that its normal? i know sometimes they change a few things year by year. Thanks in advance!
The real one is a mid 90s jacket and while the embroidery is connected, it is crisp and the lettering is almost 👌🏼 the bootleg version is connected as well but the lettering is crooked and not well done at all.
Very hard to tell the difference, I guess the best you can do is to buy directly from the company in person or online if you want to make sure you are getting the real thing.
The REAL NORTH FACE is DOWN. These are poly fill. You can feel this by rubbing your fingers on the outer shell. Down you feel the bird crunchy feathers. Fake you do not. I got mine for free I bitched so much. Plus it was shipped from HONG KONG. Big clue too
This video is full of lots of false info, loads of legit north face has connected stitching, the technology back than could only achieve that, I've also seen legit jackets with size errors on the label but they are quite rare. A bigger clue on the size tag would be the spelling mistakes in french, it should say "duvet d'oie" not "duvet d'ole" You cannot even see these label errors on your video but I know that label very well. The summit series logo can actually be on either arm so that's another fallacy, plenty of legit Asian summit series pieces have the logo on the right arm. I do legit checks all day long on north face talk.
First off, thank you for checking out the video and for your comment. 1) In regards to the embroidery being connected. I do have some older TNF pieces that have connected embroidery, although the lettering is flawless. However, connected embroidery on the front or back logo is not something you should see on jacket made in the past 15 years or so. 2) Size errors do occur although extremely rare. It is meant to be used in conjunction with other clues to better authenticate a jacket. Thank you for the French tip. 3) In all my experience looking at TNF jackets, every jacket that had the summit series logo on the right, also had other inconsistencies and was determined to be a bootleg. I have tried to find the Asian market summit series jackets you mentioned but haven't been able to do so successfully. If you have examples of any, it would be great if you could send them my way so I could better familiarize myself. All in all, when you use multiple clues together, you can get a pretty good idea of whether a jacket is legit or not. I wouldn't and didn't suggest for anyone to use one clue and call it a day. These tips are best used with as much information as possible.
@@vintagethrift5147 could be that Mr Hs shits are all fake? lol " technology back then" embroidery dates back to the BC/AD ages. For a fact newer TNF jackets such as the Retro 1990 mountain jackets (Made in Vietnam) and 1994 Mountain Light Futurelights (Made in Bangladesh) DO NOT have connected embroidery. As for older vintage jackets Mr H should enlighten us all on when TNF made the transition from connected embroidery to separate lettering embroidery. BUT Mr H might be correct, as I have seen countless vintage mountain jackets 90'/94's that DO have that connected embroidery. Either way I would like to see an educational video from someone discussing this embroidery difference (Vintage vs Newer Retro gear).
