I’m normally a low profile/stretch tyre kinda guy (i know, I know…) but this setup looks cool as hell for some reason. Don’t go smaller on profiles, this looks spot on and as you said yourself, if you step it down the arch gap will get far too big and ruin it all 👍
There are companies that will test & clean those injectors. But it is also possible to buy non-OEM non-BOSCH aftermarket injectors online for a much more reasonable price. OR you could source OEM Bosch injectors from other cars in a wrecking yard. You can find a BOSCH part number (starting with 280) on each injector and if you use that nr. in a google search you should be able to find the specs for them: i vaguely seem to remember something like 185cc/min @3bar. There will be cars that use the same spec injectors. Like BMW's from that era, maybe Opel Rekord, Omega. Note: it is however crucial that you know if the car ECU needs hi-resistance or low-resistance injectors. You need to get that right whatever injector you chose. If you install the wrong ones you risk blowing op the injection driver circuitry inside the ECU. Working in this way i installed Saab 9000 T16 injectors in a B204FT Turbo engine. (so NOT suitable for your B230F) Additional bonus of getting these more modern injectors is that the spray pattern of the Saab injectors was much better. Instead of 1 cone shaped jet the Saab injectors gave 4 jets with better misting.
Thanks, that's great advice. I was hoping to get them rebuilt, but I think they will charge a lot for that here though so a used set might be the best option. For now I'm planning to try some yellow tops out of an LH2.4 system and see if it works
@@Involvod as @jfv65 already pointed out, if you want to try other injectors make sure to use a model with comparable impedance. I use a set of yellow Bosch 0-280-155-746 in my ’86 740 (b230f LH2.2), these are 17.3 Ohm which classifies as a High impedance injector. The none turbo 5 and 6 cylinder whiteblocks have these. Back in 2014 I had this set rebuild. Having them tested, cleaned and fitted with new parts (filter, O-rings and nose cap) cost me around 15,- Euro’s each. I looked up prices for this model Bosch injector and was surprised to see brand-new ones currently being sold between 45,- and 50,- Euro’s a piece. A Bosch model that is being used in the later LH2.4 none turbo redblocks is 0-280-150-762. These two injector models are very close spec wise, they mainly differ in their spray pattern. The x-746 has 4 nozzle openings and produces a finer spray and broader cone. If you go this route please do not assume every LH2.2 engine uses the same injectors, but check the Bosch numbers first.
14 inch wheels mean you've got the tiny brake calipers. i dont know about changing stuff in Germany but 940 "jumbo brakes" would be a nice upgrade or even 302mm discs with v70 calipers . You need 16 inch wheels then though.
Thanks for the tip! Wouldn't say no to better brakes, even though we drive everywhere slowly. They definitely wouldn't allow me to do that here but they wouldn't notice
@@Involvod there's a lot better choice of pads for the v70 brakes, I got the police spec ones! There's also a better choice of tyre in 15 inch versus 14.
The alloys look good but the cabs with trim look like they belong there. I like both but there's a reason I'm sticking with 14 inch on my 360. A big sidewall is fine IMO. Brings some comfort as well. Also, great job on figuring out the warm-start issue.
By 6:39 you convinced me the caps look better than the alloys and the Japanese reference makes sense. The caps/tire size somehow weirdly DOES make it look '80s Toyota'ish !!
Congrats with solving the warm 🥵 not starting problem! Try to clean the old injectors! Ultrasone or something! I saw on wheeler dealer a company in England that refurbished them ! Those wheel covers look very cool 😎 old school and original! Especially whit the beefy sidewalls! A 240 or 740 needs beefy balloon tyres !
I prefer the new trims. Gives a much better look than the previous set up not that the alloys were awful looks wise but the new much better. Good looking trims for a very good looking Volvo.
I remember trying to change from 185/60 to 185/70 tyres on my Fiesta and the difference is huge! The higher profile tyres would rub everywhere so I couldn't use them.
I felt a USA presidencial limo vibes with the big tires LOL, but fitted very well the grandma Volvo. In any other way, the hubcaps looks better than the alloys.
The USA presidential limo vibes reminded me of my brother's comment that my new 1985 240 GL sedan, same color as this 740, with dark tinted windows looked like a diplomat's car. I wish I still had it. Traded it in for a new white 1994 Volvo 850 sedan non turbo which I'm still driving.
The pin is only there to index the wheel with the disc in case they're balanced as a whole. They aren't really necessary for any other reason. A bolt might be useful to keep the disc in place while replacing the pads though.
Well done on finding the source of the problem! These lengthy troubleshootings can sometimes throw you off when you think you've tested something, or misplaced your brain and tested something wrong. Flooring the accelerator and it starting easier certainly confirms it was flooding. Perhaps you can send off the injectors to a specialized shop that can properly test and find the faulty one? Then you can at least replace the actual faulty injector rather than the entire set. Had a similar issue on my Amazon. Started fine when cold, but would be hard to start when warm. Everyone kept telling me it is because of this evil ethanol causing the fuel to boil, destroying the carburetor, causing cancer and whatnot. Turned out it was the brand new reproduction fuel pump that produced too much pressure. This overpowered the float valve, overfilling the carburetor and then dripping fuel into the intake. Added a rebuilt original pump and it has been completely fine afterwards.
That's crazy, faulty new parts, what a nightmare! I'm considering getting them serviced, but I think here in Germany if I can even find somewhere they will probably charge more than what new injectors cost, so sending them off to somewhere might be a better option
Thanks! I'm not sure, as it's an '88 it might have had 15", there's both listed in the owners manual. When I got her she had 15" steels with chrome centre caps, not sure if it was original though
Congratulations on solving the warm start problem. I think these older stainless style covers are a better design then their later full plastic replacements. These earlier ones hold on securely to the center wheel hub assembly without too much scratching up the steel rims. Good choice
That's what I thought, a lot of these old Volvos have alloys on them now and often bigger and more modern looking ones than what they came with. It's nice to see some originality. But to be honest those alloys were also early / mid 80's like the chrome caps, they came on the 760 I think, must have looked pretty sporty back then
Yeah, I still couldn't figure out why there is a pin on the front hub. Maybe sawing it off will just do away with that malarky. I hope when I get around to fitting the Coronas to my 245 that I won't have that issue. Oh and the chrome wheel trims look proper.
Thanks man! The pin is to help keep the brake disc on when the wheel is removed, it's a lot nicer to have it installed when you're doing pads but it's not necessary 👍

I've got a similar problem to this - needs throttle to start, but then idles at about 600rpm and stalls unless I keep the revs up with the throttle, until its warm, then it just runs rough. Fuel pressure regulator has been checked and changed - no dice. Though the rpm returns to a nice idle if the vaccume line isn't attached.
