The part you said about Lynn, his wife, leaving even though he wasn’t pursuing Black Lightning anymore, I thought there was a flashback of her saying she wanted a divorce when one of the girls saw how bloody he was or something
Sparky Millen Yep you're almost completely right. She left because he went back out after he promised he was done. And then his daughter saw him bleeding in the bathroom. She left because he broke the promise.
There was one part you missed about why his wife left him. She didn't just leave anyway after he said he was done being Black Lightning. It's because he promised he would stop and he went back out as Black Lightning, and then his daughter saw the aftermath while he was bleeding in the bathroom.
Slight irony considering the casting choice of the tailor (I forget the characters name), considering that he actually played Raiden in the 2nd Mortal Kombat movie MK: Annihilation. Passing on the Lightning bolt to a protege in a way lol.
They probably left it in as a vague reference in case they decide to make it a part of the Arrowverse. If so, we know from episode 1 that there are other heroes out there. If not, then it fleshes out the world a bit more.

In the comics, the metagene is often activated by extreme stress / distress. So the two sisters having their whole world rocked by the hostage situation might have activated their dormant powers.

Out of all the CW shows this one feels the most grounded in reality. it's light and cheesy like flash and Supergirl, and it's not broody, coming up from the ashes like Arrow.
He is not related in any way to Black Lightning (other than power set, skin color and costume colors). Plus I think while DC owns the character, I don't think the rights are as clear cut as with many of their other characters. I love Virgil, but I don't think he's going to show up.
I think if it were in one of the existing CW universes, I would think it was Supergirl. Because in the Arrow earth, it seems all metas are related to dark matter emissions in and around Central City. And there don't seem to have been superheros in that universe prior to the advent of Arrow. The JSA were around before, but the impression is that they were not known by the general public.
well freeland is a better version of the actual comic town suicide slums where even superman gave up hope so it does stand to reason that the gang members can walk in a hs and take the girls

this show is pretty good. the violence is so much real but still captivating. Damnnnn... I like it.

The guy that was helping Black Lightning who made his costume is James Remar. He played the character "Ajax" in the 1979 classic movie "The Warriors".

This is one of my favourite pilot so far of any superhero shows.
