You can tell by the expressions on their faces that this wonderful group of musicians are having a blast. How could anyone hear this song and not have a smile on their face?
Earl the Pearl - what a hoot! I suspect with his passing a whole bunch of people will discover his incredible music. You can't watch this video and hear the music and not feel REAL good.
Holy Shit! I'll need to listen to Albert's solo a couple o' hundred times before I can pick my jaw up off the floor. Not to mention the amazing Vince Gill!! Wow.
The Love shown through his music and shared with his son Randy who is also a unbelivable musician I was honored to see them in Branson Mo a few years back where I snagged an autograph :) RIP Earl !!!
I wonder how many times in a row you have to listen to this to get tired of it. I'm not going to test it out because to get tired of it would be a tragedy.
well, i heard it all the time growing up - my daddy played the guitar and the banjo and the fiddle and the mandolin and the piano and the mouth harp. i understand my first words were 'how about a little foggy mountain?" I ain't sick of it yet, and I'm 10 years older than dirt.
When I was young, getting together to play guitars was a regular thing for my Dad and some of his buddies. They weren't this good, but by golly, they did seem to have this much fun! I love watching this.
Amazing musicianship from everyone. I was really surprised to see Steve Martin in there. He rocks on that banjo. I hope he makes an album. He's a great comic, actor, writer, and musicianship. He can do anything he sets his mind too. I hope I can be cool like him when I'm his age. Or at least before I'm 30.
It's been 12 years. I hope you have discovered that Steve Martin is, in fact, one of the best pickers in the world and has many albums out. He has actually won more awards for music than for acting, I believe.
Every time I hear this song, I love it more. This is the kind of music that's immortal. People will be listening to this decades from now, yearning for the old times it sings of. Thank whoever you might happen to believe in, or, hell, don't believe in at all that music like this exists!
Reminds me of the sound that spring made as the water ran over the rocks on the farm were I grew up !!a crisp and clear sound !!what a great group of musical talent !!!
Earl Scruggs was ineed a master banjo player and this is most likely his best peice of banjo plucken but if you notice at the very end of this video he and everybody else quit doing the ol foggy mountain breakdown yet the music continues. Whats up with that? And I just hope that when Earl passed through those pearly gates he was rewarded with a golden banjo. RIP Earl.
It took me a minute to realise that the person playing the banjo at 1:11 was Steve Martin! What a guy. His rendition of dueling banjos with Kermit remains a favourite. This is a new favourite. I think it is necessary to drink good bourbon while listening to this music. Just my humble opinion, after a couple of double oaks...
too the ppl below me thats how it was recorded, i know because about 5 years ago i saw this, it inspired me too learn banjo now i play every instrument in this video im an accomplished banjo player and i teach lessons. it made me smile that i found this video :)
I love this video , talk about a group of A list players & artist . Vince Gill, Marty Stuart , Jerry Douglas , Albert Lee , Steve Martin , Randy Scruggs , Gary Scruggs, Paul Schaffer , Leon Russel & Handsome Harry keeping the beat all behind the Great Earl Scruggs!!! …. But who is the bass player ??? I only got a short glimpse but couldn’t place him .
My only complaint about this is how Leon isn't showcased when he plays. Each of these musicians gets some camera time at their solo, but he doesn't. Aside from that, this is fun to listen to and to watch.

I think the same as you just great ..
D d
Holy crap.....I just now found this gem.
I doubt there will ever be a banjo player that will even come close to Earl Scruggs. He was the best, he is the best and will always be the best.
Sends chills down my spine. RIP, Earl. There will never be another.
This song will be the processional at my funeral. Leave on a good note.
Earl. "Thee" greatest that ever lived. Period. The "Earl Scruggs Model Gibson Banjo". End of story. God Bless You Earl. May your legacy live on.
This is THE ONE I remember ... when I saw it the first time on CMT. FANTASTIC!!!
RIP Earl.
A whole bunch of my favorite musicians there ~ RIP Earl. Randy, Gary Scruggs.
I love this song as do all the people playing. It gives me goosebumps.
My..........goodness!!! Damn!!! Loving it. Never duplicated, never bested. The model.

Wow.
My God! If that doesn't put a smile a mile wide on your face, I don't know what will. Music at it's heart right here.
The Love shown through his music and shared with his son Randy who is also a unbelivable musician I was honored to see them in Branson Mo a few years back where I snagged an autograph :) RIP Earl !!!
Earl.....you brought us some great memories and a reason to tap our feet. RIP friend.
I love this! I'm a New Mexico boy who loves Blue Grass. This is the best version of Foggy Mountain I've ever heard. Steve Martin Kicks ass! RIP Earl.
Lol... Clearly you've never heard Flatt and Scruggs' version .. the original, if you claim this is the best. Haha
just seeing earl scruggs is enough to put a smile on your face and bring a tear to your eye
Thank you for your music, your spirit, your support of the boys overseas while you tried to get them out of Vietnam...
RIP

OML, so much talent! Probably 200,000 hours of practice and these folks are having fun!
With this supergroup, probably 2 million hours of practice! That’s what it takes!
[I was correcting myself ~ lol!]
@FriedRiceGalore Yes, that most certainly is Steve Martin on the banjo.
This is my ALL-TIME favorite video! 'nuff said!
Amen to that! ☘️
Absolutely amazing. Great performances from everyone!
