    Exactly right!
    The idea is that the Pub Landlord character is a know-it-all that loves to 'educate' but has it all wrong, or at least very extreme views and skewed ideas. So yes, spot on, he's to be laughed at, and yet there is some form of truth in there too. A very clever balance. The swearing is not just to fit the character, but grounds him, maybe as a reminder that he's a Pub Landlord chatting away whilst serving you your drink, rather than a lecturer or educator to believe.
    Anyway great stuff, Merci beaucoup!

    I think he's talking about the French asking a lot of questions is from when we learn French in schools, it's all about those types of questions and half your lessons are made up about asking for where the station is or where to buy a sandwich, etc. All the basic touristy sorts of questions :D :D

    After having seen too many Americans react to this, it was such a delight to see someone really appreciate the French references :) That was me when he explained the Financial Crisis (great video that's a bit longer btw) and was suddenly speaking German and then I couldn't breathe 😂

    My admiration for this couple has just gone up 100 percent. I had always wondered their country of origin, and to only to now learn that they are Lebanese was a great surprise to me. Obviously they Speak French fluently, but their mastery of English is so impressive. You have to understand foreign conversation so well to understand humour in that language. I thank you both from the bottom of my heart for taking the trouble to speak English so well........Who said that "Brains and Beauty are an impossibility?" This couple prove that statement to be far from reality.

    Voulez vous couches Avec moi was a song by Bill Wyman waaay back. I think the whole french asking questions is inspired by French classes in English schools. And yes he's definitely turning the humour back on British stereotypes.

    I love the reactions...you don't see many French comedians which is odd...they do have a goofy sense of humour which might not work well in stand up? I dunno. Brits love to laugh at the French and the French love to laugh at Brits, it's all good fun :D

    French is (I don't know if it still is, I think there are more options now) compulsory for at least 2 to 5 years in English schools but we are taught all those questions and it seems not much else really! So he knew the audience would at least remember that much from school. It was recorded many years ago so the audience was probably almost exclusively British with a few French or German visitors.

Swimming in the sea near Jounieh I had a problem with the undertow but managed to get back to shore…that was back in 1998 I imagine it is very different now. Hey guys. I look forward to your comedy reactions especially Al Murray, as much as the music ones. There is a great concert of his from the O2 Arena London. It’s about 2 hours long and it makes your ribs beg for mercy. Most reviewers do it in segments as there are definite cut offs in themes. Please try it for yours and our benefit. Stay safe and keep doing what you can. Take it easy.

    A smart person would still shout for help because even most French speakers would understand, whereas no one else would. The not-so-subtle point is that much to the French people's eternal dismay and shame English is the International language and will always be so. This is a double-edged sword for the English because we have little incentive to learn anything other than English. This means that others can understand what we are saying but we can not understand what others are saying about us. The French hate to admit that they can even speak English especially when they are in France and see British people who can't speak French as ignorant, uneducated, rude, or all 3.
    The English rightly see the French as being incredibly rude, condescending, elitist, arrogant, nationalistic, officious, aggressive, and paranoid. This is because we know that most of them can speak English at least well enough for a short conversation or to give simple directions but stubbornly refuse to do so. There are always exceptions, but this is especially true on the rare occasions the British visit France while not attempting to use their outrageous French accent accompanying the tiny degree of French they bothered to remember from their distant school days.
    The British on the other hand are experts at understanding very badly broken and spoken English in just about any accent we are presented with including the most outrageous French accent imaginable. This is because we get more practice at doing this than others. When we go anywhere in the world there is no point in us bothering to learn the local language as everyone we meet will soon enough insist that we speak English to help them improve their own. This is because unlike the French they are not stupid. They know what the French will never admit to themselves even if they end up drowning. English is the International language.
    I have no idea what the local inhabitants think of me and I don't care to know either as long as they seem friendly. As most wish to improve their English they seem keen to engage in conversation for as long as possible. The French often find this not to be the case and this only increases their sense of paranoia.
    Or put more succinctly the French finally lost it around 1815 and will never find it again.

    The native language of England in 1066 to 1200 something was actually French, that why a lot of the English language has a lot of French in it

    • @richardedgar9670
      @richardedgar9670 10 месяцев назад

      No no, the native language of England was whatever version of english was doing the rounds at the time. The language of the monarchy and the equivalent of the aristocracy was a provincial French. The reason the English language prevailed is because the common people carried on speaking it.

    All west European languages come from Latin so their are similarities. Just a guess but maybe a connection between words for piss and water

    • @rasmusn.e.m1064
      @rasmusn.e.m1064 10 месяцев назад +1

      Not really true. Latin and the ancestral language of English, German, Dutch, and the Scandinavian languages were related though. I believe piscine actually comes from 'piscis' meaning fish in Latin ('piscis' and 'fish' are related, incidentally) and -'ina' meaning '-y', so literally 'fishy' or, as the etymology dictionaries call it "characterised by fish". Over time, the 'a'-vowel at the end of piscina', like in a lot of French words, was neutralised to an 'e' (compare Spanish 'Piscina', for example) So, obviously the Romans originally probably used the word for artificial ponds but then later extended the meaning to include what we call a pool today.

    your mic is good , but it also picks up all the knocks and bumps against the table ,
    which gives a serious bass Pop in my headphones and when i use my speakers/subwoofer , it's quit irritating
    there's probably a microphone setting you can turn on to avoid big noises like that coming through
    probably called ''noise reduction'' , have a look at that , if you will
    nice videos and you two make me smile , which i don't do on my own , only with other people who i make smile first

    Al Murray is obviously very clever but it is an act. He does not really sound like that. He is acting like a typical British pub landlord from, say 50 years ago. They were usually quite opinionated! Murray's pub landlord character just takes that to the next level.
