Me and my little brother spent countless hours playing this game on our old computer, we were too poor to have internet and any consoles so this was our entertainment.
Alex: Dune II isn't really the second Dune game, by the way. Cryo's Dune started development first, but then Westwood was asked to make a Dune game, and was led to believe that the other game was cancelled. Then it turned out it wasn't, and Westwood's game had to add the "2" number. but they were developed more or less simultaneously.
So... are you aware that there's a Windows version of this game as well, which has since received a ton of fan-updates, including high resolution? Heck, you're playing on 1.04... that's the bare unpatched version. Even without the expansions, the DOS version has an official 1.08 patch.
Yes i'm aware i have played both Windows /SVGA versions thru also like 10 years ago, had some patches too if i can remember and plus Red Alert 2 of course :) but in this channel i tend only play with DOS (for now) and so i installed the DOS version only without any patches from original RA CD-ROM images it was 1.04.
Yeah, I don't think they ever included any patches on the CDs. They've always been distributed through the expansions and on their website, and occasionally on floppies added to the game boxes. Though, for C&C1, the official patches do alter the game balance quite a bit, by drastically changing the cost of the gun turret.
@@Nyerguds ha, i know its 6 years ago, but that game still lives, right now playing remastered version:-). did anyone remember in original unpatched C&C build anywhere cheat using map? :D
@@snipetysniper i tried to say that RA story line is just steretypical bullshit, but funny. More steretypical than that Could be only Red dawn movie, which is Top grade bullshit ever existed.
@@Gorgoth_siberian you mean in the way that the Soviets are portrayed as cartoonishly, moustache-twirlingly evil? Yeah, I think I understand now. Too bad Westwood couldn’t have made it a little more nuanced by making neither side the definitively ‘good’ or ‘bad’ guy because I do like this overall darker tone.
@@snipetysniper I think they kinda *did* make neither side definitely "good" or "bad", but it's a bit buried in the manual. The Allies are described as being a "modified military junta", basically meaning that most of Europe is ran by an authoritarian military committee. That's, uh, not good at all.

Same here but Warcraft II. Rich kids had internet, we had fun and enjoyed this stuff :)
Best RTS game ever made.
Oxygenic Agree! And DUNE the second one was also very cool!
I dunno. I prefer C&C1. Less tank spam.

Nyerguds Didn t knew that! thanks! ence the similarity
Nyerguds Agree... on Dune sometimes we were tottaly over run by dozens of tanks
Wenn ich die Musik höre kommen die alten Zeiten zurück....
I was born on this game release! 1996
memories fade
but scars linger

Didn't know RA actually first came out in this VGA, C&C-like, version.
@@wza223-fo3mc I guess, but playing unpatched versions is just asking for getting bugs in-game. And I bet you this footage is from DOSBox anyway.

I remember this game
i love that games series, but westwood made bullshit of all the times ever.
worse bullshit existed was only Red Dawn movie.
I know this comment is 2 years old but... what exactly are you trying to say?
