Daydreamgurl28 I also think that the "look what she made me do" scene with the made is scarier than the clap scene, only because the clap scene was in the trailer.
Daydreamgurl28 that entire movie was an imitation and combination of most horror movie plots and cliches and the jump scare was not scary... because it's been done in so many other movies.
For me, the Alien one is the best and most effective jumpscare ever. It's just perfect. The setting, the atmosphere, the beeping of the tracker, the desperate voices warning Dallas the xenomorph is near. You know a jumpscare is coming soon and you are totally expecting it. And still you get scared when the Xenomorph appears and grabs Dallas. Damn, how I wish modern horror movies were half as good as Alien.
same. i thought this list was horrible. they need to stop trying to portray classics as the best at everything because there are some bad movies out there with great jump scares
Zach Clanton Exactly. Although, Sinister, Insidious, and The Conjuring are extremely good modern horror films. They didn't 100% rely on jump scares on the whole and were truly terrifying.
The movie that truly scared the shit out of me, both metaphorically and almost literally, is, Sinister. Although the movie does rely on a few Jumpscares, that's the least of the things that scared me from the movie. The Tapes in the movie are so suffocating, so dark, you feel you can't breath. They are so Macabre, you truly feel the terror and evilness in the movie. Boghul (the boogyman) is the most evil character I have seen in my whole life. Can't wait for the sedond part.
+Ryan J Hicks yeah i watched the Conjuring with my mom and she didn't even get scared! it made me jump like crazy! but we even watched Insidious together too, she said the only thing scary about that was the song "tiptoe thru the tulips"
+Ryan J Hicks After a while i became immune to jumpsacres, it wasn't until about a month ago when i watched the conjuring and that wardrobe scene that made me jump out, it did help that i was home alone, it was dark, and awfully quiet. But the insidious one i found to be cringy overall.
Number 1 should've gone to when you see Pazuzu's face in the hospital in the first Exorcist. The split second is by far the best jump scare I've ever experienced. Chills everytime.
Austin Putnam I also missed the scene at the end of _Enemy_. Would have deserved a mention. And the bag scene from the Japanese horror film _Audition_ (the scene can be found on RUclips, just search for "audition bag scene"). Edit: I think they didn't put the face scene from the first _Exorcist_ in this list because they already included the film in their "Top 10 Movies You Shouldn't Watch Alone".
That and the spider walk on the stairs are the only scenes that really scared me in the first Exorcist movie. The Grudge did something similar (maybe an intentional Exorcist tribute?) with the ghost's face popping up unexpectedly in a window.
That entire movie just sacred me but the worst one for me was when Ellison put up the picture of the garden and when he put it back down bagul was right there in the trees
Wow I'm surprised the lawnmower scene from sinister didn't make it on the list. I've seen a lot of horror movies but that one probably gave me the biggest jump scare lol
Daniel Sanchez Gosh those video tapes were creepy but the the lawnmower was totally unexpected. I might have jumped back from my computer and nearly made it fall on the ground.
The exorcist 3 Legion is the greatest one of all. There will never be one on par with it. That is what makes it the greatest. The tension and fake outs and the sounds.
@@theoutsiderspost4982 they are boring af maybe beacuse the effects and all that stuff are old after all they are old movie , i almost fell asleep watching them they need a remake i think
if we are talking about good jump scare then surely that bit from the conjuring with the witch on top of the wardrobe, every body ive spoken to admits they sh*t themselves at that bit
Jade Luke-Hurley i seen sinister and th first time i watched it, i did get scared, up till the demon world when the red faced demon had tip toe through the window playing, i started laughing at that i still say the conjuring is one of my favorite horror movies, i watched it in the cinema then in the house with a friend and i was scared shitless both times yea, the old horror movies are not scary anymore, i had tears of laughter when i watched the exorcist and the shining
01superchunk I think your meaning insidious not sinister cause sinister has bgoule and insidious has red faced demon and tip toe but tip toe creeps me the fuck out when I don't see tiny Tims face but when I do I just laugh
Jade Luke-Hurley oh yea, sorry, yea sinister was really good as well, to be fair i like a lot of recent horror movies (by recent i mean the last 5-10 years), even theat crappy annabelle movie scared me when i watched it in the cinema
Jade Luke-Hurley Yeah, James Wan is really overrated. The Conjuring is as stereotypical and predictable as it gets as far as haunted house movies go. And most of the "scares" in his movies are those really overhyped things, like the people smiling in Insidious, or the Tiptoe through the Tulips. Oh, a sweet innocent song meant to be sinister? Oh how fucking original Wan. Not to mention the Warrens are proven con artists, and all he did was give them undue credibility again :/ Most of his movies are all jumpscares (bad ones at that) or outdated phobias. I'm getting really sick of directors making movies where the supposed scary twist is that the main villian is trans. Insecurities much Wan? I've known plenty of trans people, and they're all delightful, sane people, despite what horror films have lead everyone to believe.
The scene when the shark first appeared in Jaws wasn't nearly as jump-scary as earlier in the movie when that guy's head and torso popped out of the hull of his boat. That scene STILL gets me and I can't even count how many times I've watched that movie.
Where the hell is the Ben Gardner head from Jaws? Or the hospital bed nightmare from An American Werewolf in London? Those two still manage to get me every time.
+iJerseyDevil We watched this in a film class in high school and you could tell who had never seen the film before. Our teacher purposefully positioned himself to see everyone's faces just so he could enjoy watching half the class shit themselves.
Two that should have been at the highest on the list are the original "Poltergeist" and the original "Amityville Horror." The infamous Clown Sequence in Poltergeist and Kathy seeing the glowing eyes of "Jody" outside of the window in Amityville are chilling examples of jump-scares done perfectly.
MaximumMadnessStixon In the Remake of Amityville is also a terrible scene, with the hanged girl in the background when the couple is busy having sex. That was terrible, too.
+MaximumMadnessStixon what about in the Shining when he comes from behind the one pillar and AXES the one guy a question??? LOL i'm sure i jumped when i first saw that! and in the Ring when she crawls out of the tv!!! THAT made me jump outta my chair it scared me so bad!!!!! LOL and the like 4 or 5 jump scares in Signs!!!
You gotta wonder how much research they actually do on this stuff when they get the names of the characters wrong. The segment they showed of The Conjuring? That wasn't Lorraine in the basement. That was Carolyn. Lorraine is the ghost hunter, smart one.
+Deegee_ _ It drives me crazy when they miss things like that. It makes you wonder if any of them even watched the movie. To me it seems like they didn't even put in as much effort as I used to when I was using SparkNotes to BS college papers.
jabron2009 I fully agree, man.. I tried to mute my speakers to avoid this godforsaken narration and wait for the actual jump scare.. But hey, I missed it.. :(
one of my personal favorites is the scene in "The Descent" when we first get a good look at the creatures in the cave. One woman is filming with a camera using night vision to examine the surroundings, and as she slowly turns around, you suddenly see a very creepy creature standing right behind one of her friends, and it immediately makes this terrifying screeching sound. I jump every time...even though I know what to expect. It's also interesting to note that the actors had NO IDEA what the creatures were going to look like prior to filming that scene. I guess the director wanted it that way to make the actors' reactions as authentic as possible. I think, too, that the actors were unaware that the creature was going to appear in that scene (not sure about that...but I think I remember that being the case). In any event...it was one of the greatest jump scares I've ever seen. I also love some of the jump scares in found-footage horror films, like "Paranormal Activity". The one that comes to mind first, is when the teenage babysitter (in the third film, I think?) is sitting at the dining table while being filmed by a camera attached to an oscillating fan, which moves the view back and forth between the living room and kitchen/dining area. You see the babysitter sitting at the table...all is well. The camera then moves to show the living room, and all is well there, too. Then, when the camera moves back to the kitchen area, you see what looks like a child with a white sheet over them (like they're pretending to be a ghost) standing right behind the babysitter. A moment later, the sheet drops to the floor as if the child under it just vanished...and the babysitter turns around to find the sheet on the floor. She's creeped-out by it, for sure...but not nearly as frightened as the viewer, since she didn't see what happened...she only saw a sheet on the floor that seemed to appear out of nowhere.
Fucking Grudge. I fucking hate that God damn movie. Scared me shitless as a kid and still does in my mid 20s. Fuck that movie. And fuck the nightmares it still gives me.
I know, There were maybe 2 or 3 actual jump scares, and the rest were just scenes. I mean, how is the horn honking in Jeepers Creeper a scare. Or the Shark appearing in Jaws. They make them really obvious that it's happening. The Alien one though, that's a jump scare!
Carter Burkhart they were not jump scares, the only one i can think of that actually was a jump scare was the alien one. the rest were just ordinary scenes with a horror element.
Insidious 3 trailer. A girl in her bed. A friend lives next door to her and nocks on the wall of her bedroom. Feeling teased, she texts him only for him to text back saying he is at his grandmother's house. The girl lies down, thinking nothing of it. We all expect another nock to come, right? Watch the thing for your self and you will see why it's a good jump scare.
Damn Squash even though they showed a lot in trailers, there's so much more jumpscares in the movie. They could fill this list up 1-10 with just that movie
Aron Lynch Oh yeah I think you're talking about the scene where the infected saw the light from the house and rushed over in his house and broke through the glass. Yeah that shit was scary as hell.
There was another scene in "The Conjuring" that made me jump out of my skin! The youngest sees something while in bed at night, and wakes her sister to tell her she saw someone. Older sis thinks she was only dreaming and shows her nobody's in there. As she's standing in the doorway to, she turns to say Good night to little sis. Who is staring, terrified and says "There's someone right behind you!" The audience seeing what she saw was a great jump scare, imo.
If they wanted to show a jump scene from Insidious, they should've used the one where the psychic takes the picture at the end, and it shows that it is the old lady and not the husband!
+Shane Hennenhoefer yeah that was a good one or when the guy is flicking through the camera lenses and suddenly appears those 2 creepy twins right infront of him
Insidious series and The Conjuring to me are one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. Not only they have some good creepy things, but the story and how it connects is amazing as well. The Grudge is missing though. The part when the girl gets "grabbed" from within her hoodie was fucking epic.
i have watched SOOO many scary movies and jump scare vids but the only jusmp scare that has realy ever SCARED me like actually scared is when the deamon is standing behind the guy in insidious
honestly, out of every scene showed I personally think the Alien, Saw & Insidious scenes are the only ones that actually qualifies as a proper jumpscare. just seeing something freaky in a movie doesn't automatically make it a jumpscare.
You choose the Conjuring and pick the clapping scene? That didn't scare me nearly as much as the demon on the top of the wardrobe, or Carolyn suddenly screaming in bed with the demon on top of her. BTW, it was Carolyn stuck in the basement, not Lorraine
The jump from not smiling to smiling is literally one frame. It's actually pretty funny you can go back a frame and forward to smile/un-smile the family. On top of that, some of the smiles are blatantly shopped and don't look right at all, it's quite effective for such a dumb trick.
Exorcist 3 is an excellent horror film. It's so much more subtle than the original and effective due to focusing on the psychological horror rather than all out supernatural which the first one was and we'd all like to forget about the the 2nd film in the series. The original is an influential classic in American horror but in many ways I liked the 3rd installment as much. The horror works well like I said due to the slow burn, psychological terror and implying the torture is far more disturbing than just buckets of blood. Easily one of the scariest horror films out there with some of the most suspenseful moments, that one jump scare is on the level of Hitchcock even and is one of the best horror films all around with the orig7nal.
Absolutely agree. Plot of the murder in self is effective but in this specific context (with the idea of implied demonic possesion and discret traces of first movie) is brilliant. I´m big fan of Legion book and still the changes, i think movie is very very well done.
You picked the part in Jaws where the shark comes out of the water. Meh, not really "jumpy". But the scene where Hooper was prying the shark tooth out of the hull, they dead guys pops out of the hole. That was a jump scare worth remembering.
Jump scares are way too common nowadays in horror movies. I prefer when it actually scares you psychologically and not for just a brief moment. That is being truly scared.
The effectiveness of the exorcist 3 scene was amplified because it took a long time to build up, it scares us with the doctor waking up and so we relaxed. Then it jumped at us. Scared the bejesus out of me.
Depressed! I've given up in relationships. Stick a fork in me. Im done. Exorcist 2 was bad. I think you're thinking of exorcist 3. That's where the clip was from.
Honestly though, how did you make any sense of the heretic? It felt like it was made by people who were high on dope. The third one was, in my opinion, the real sequel to the first one. It followed the story of the original and told us what happened to these characters. Did you see the two prequels? They made one called "Dominion." They didn't like it so they scrapped it and shot another one "The Beginning." Then they released both. So now there are three versions of how Father Lancaster Merrin met Pazuzu. Yeah! I love scary movies. Particularly when I'm alone. It gets the blood pumping. I'm an atheist so it doesn't bother me. That is to say, I don't have a problem falling asleep or anything, but while I'm watching the movie, I let my logic take a break and get into the spirit of things and I really enjoy it. Take care brother.
Well, if ur wondering what happens in the scene: you see 2 hands start a lawnmower and begin pushing it. It's just on the lawn for a bit, then suddenly a person o the ground comes into view and the lawnmower goes over it. It was loud and creepy
Daenerys Targaryen in the theater the whole moment was so tense and scary and that just added on to it. To be honest a Better one from that movie is when you see the ghost manifestation for the first time on top of the dresser.
Daenerys Targaryen In the Conjuring there was a better jump scare then the one they selected - the zoom in on the demon on the closet, that is the freakiest part of the whole movie.
I loved the one from the ring where a jumpscare was completely randomly thrown in the middle of a conversation, with no sound added. I really wasn't expecting that.
Totally forgot about that one, that's a good one. Or in sinister 2 when the boogie man popped up. I knew it was gonna happen, but it still scares me lol
+Jamez Gray i came here expecting it, but i was watching this shit, and jesus, i couldn't hear what the guy was saying so i turned the vol up all the way and then BOW
The Jason jump scare almost made me piss myself it was soo out of nowhere, that should have been on the list and not an honourable mention. also, the conjurings best jump scare was not the clap as the clap was expected from the trailers. The jump scare was the woman on top of the freaking closet, i almost had a heart attack.
Kelly Wilson This top isn't made to scare you, if you wanted to be scared you should have watched the movies, setting and build up is most of the time more important than the jumpscare itself, the top spot is a perfect example of that. Here you are told beforehand and the build up is completely taken away.
SaproPhycs Derpy You don't know what you're talking about. I saw that movie in the theatre, and people freaked out at that scene. I took over a minute for the people to calm down after it.
The Exorcist III was meant to be a freestanding demonic story but studio meddling resulted in a tacked on exorcism and a re-edit that turned the very nasty supernatural detective story into a mishmash ending in a hackneyed confrontation. The confessional scene is still very creepy.
+Chazbot I may need to watch this movie. I confess, I never bothered with the Exorcist 3 since most sequels made back in the day sucked ass due to studio meddling. But now that you mention a creepy confessional scene, I may have to give it a watch after all. ;)
The scene in the Excorcist where Regan is being examined in the hospital and she sees the Demon 'Pazuzu' through the darkness is horrifying. One of the few scenes I cant watch!
Am I the only one that doesn't find movies older than 1990's scary? I can find them creepy, but I can't actually be getting goose bumps and shitting myself.
+SillY TiIIY It's all in the generation, sir. I'm an 80s kid and I find the new shit boring. It appears that everyone has to be cut in half with 8 tons of blood to be considered "scary" in this day. Insidious is the exception to me.
Honorable mention: Lights Out, someone in the doorway, lights on, someone gone, lights out, someone in the doorway, lights on, someone gone, lights out, someone standing right in front of you...
3 James Wan movies featured on this episode. The Conjuring, Insidious, and Saw. I love those movies, and James Wan as a director and Leigh Whannell as a writer. Plus their movies aren't loaded with jumpscares like a lot of other movies out there.
TheMarionick yes!! She is so creepy. Her wish was for her to be turned into a doll once she dies. WTF, so creepy. The jumpscare that got me was when the old guy was under the house and he sees a hand, he turns around and Mary Shaw's face is right in front of him staring at him :/.
Seriously they didnt include the scene from The Exorcist where you see the face of Captain Howdy? I remember watching that scene in my room with the lights off and good God i had trouble sleeping for almost a month.
"The Exorcist 3" is good movie. I'm not sure why you were putting it down so much. It really needs to be released as it was originally intended as "Legion" not "The Exorcist 3," which would also remove the completely out of place "exorcism" ending (Yeah, out of nowhere some priest decides to do an exorcism on this patient, yet nobody has petitioned the church to do this and it really just comes out of nowhere)but hopefully we will get to see it as it was supposed to be before Morgan Creek decided to cash in on a title. Another thing that makes the jump scare so effective in it is that Blatty had decades of close-up Hollywood jump scares to set the audience up for it and then what you see is so strange and freaky looking. It's almost as if that statue went after her.
The scene from exorcist 3 is so effective because it lasts for minutes, it's like you know it's going to happen so you are on edge throughout the whole scene and then right at the end it punches you right in the face. This was the only jumpscare that really ever got to me and made me scared even days after seeing it.
Thanasis thk1991 The original trilogy were also amazing along with the remake. Remake are usually worse than the originals but I think the remake is just as good.
Suosittelen että googlaat tuon mieluummin kuin kysyt täältä. Ihmiset pitäisivät sinua hieman köh köh vajakkina. SIIS en tarkoita että itse sanoisin näin.. ehehehe
Can't believe that Jason jumping out of the Crystal Lake didn't make the list and no mention of the hands through the wall in Day Of The Dead, and the hand out of the grave in the Father's Day story of Creepshow 1.
The demon on top of the wardrobe scene in The Conjuring was by far WAY more of a jump scare than the clapping scene
Have you seen the conjuring? Or Annabelle? They both by far have to be some of the best horror movies.
+Cody Lent i just saw the sequel. No sleep for me anymore
they are extremely predictable, its no good. the blair witch project hands down best one
That's what I thought
Conjuring had a cool sinister vibe, but Annabelle was for the lolz.
In the Conjuring I think the scene where the demon is on top of the dresser and jumps on that girl is much scarier then the "clap" scene :/
Definitely. The clap scene was in the trailer too, so we already saw it.
Daydreamgurl28 I also think that the "look what she made me do" scene with the made is scarier than the clap scene, only because the clap scene was in the trailer.
Daydreamgurl28 Yeah definitely. It scared the crap out of me and it was so unexpected too.
Daydreamgurl28 exactly what i was thinking, i was looking for this comment
Daydreamgurl28 that entire movie was an imitation and combination of most horror movie plots and cliches and the jump scare was not scary... because it's been done in so many other movies.

Alien really was a great movie, and was the best of it's kind.
Azure Flame If more films were like Alien the world would be perfect. And we know that that's not possible
Phantom5467 Jeez Alien sucked. Well, it didn't suck but it wasn't great
Andy Dufresne That's definitely an opinion.

It follows - tall guy scene
Definitely! That was waaay more scary than all the scenes in this video.

omg yes I was beyond scared
haven't seen that yet, any good?

The fact that today IS, in fact, Monday and looking at a comment 2 Weeks ago
DUN DUN DUUUUUN
Ha-ha good one! . My thoughts exactly.
Robyn Clark well said bro.......
Best jump scare in The Conjuring in my opinion is when Beth Sheeba is on top of the closet and jumps on the girl.
+Francisca 24 i literally shat myself during that part
cheercats07 As the camera was zooming in on her face I was like "fuuuuuuUUUUUUUUCK!!"
I agree. I saw that film in theaters. Everyone flipped shit during that part.
+Chestney Chiller I jumped and farted when that happened Lmao Smh
+algerae1984 I'M CRYING
The only jump scare here that actually scared me was number 7 from Alien. I was expecting it to happen, but it was just so sudden
I adore Alien, but you really found that scene scarier than the hospital one in Exorcist III?
Edward Chamberlin That scared this shit out of me. Not jump scare kinda, but just the idea and concept of it
same. i thought this list was horrible. they need to stop trying to portray classics as the best at everything because there are some bad movies out there with great jump scares
Zach Clanton Exactly. Although, Sinister, Insidious, and The Conjuring are extremely good modern horror films. They didn't 100% rely on jump scares on the whole and were truly terrifying.

6:50 - that's not Lorraine that's Carolyn
I also thought a better jump scare in that movie as the creature on top of the armoire, not the floating hands clapping beside her!
Tracy Hargraves me too omg
I know, makes it seem like people who don't know what's really going down just picked some jump scares an threw this video together.
Michaelluigi20 yeah I mean that's not even the worst jump scare of the movie

Number 1 should've gone to when you see Pazuzu's face in the hospital in the first Exorcist. The split second is by far the best jump scare I've ever experienced. Chills everytime.
Austin Putnam It will always be ingrained in my mind, all of his face's appearances, I'm surprised it isn't number 1.
Austin Putnam Yeah but everyone knows that. I'm glad they went with a less known scare. I didn't know this one for example, and it was pretty freaky!
I think it is the scariest picture from "the exorcist". Each time i see Pazuzu's face when i watch the film, i am scaried. Even i saw it several times
Austin Putnam I also missed the scene at the end of _Enemy_. Would have deserved a mention. And the bag scene from the Japanese horror film _Audition_ (the scene can be found on RUclips, just search for "audition bag scene").

One of the best jumpscares in the modern horror history is the lawnmower scene from Sinister. Shame it isn't here.
Orshabaal for real man one time I was watching it alone in the dark with surround sound in the living room by myself it scared the shit out of me
Orshabaal Sinister is definitely right up there with Insidious.
DoYou LikeFacts? Dude thats not how you do it, ofcourse when you know whats gonna happen its not scary.
Orshabaal it's said that Ethan Hawke had never watched those footage videos beforehand so each reaction from Ethan himself was legitimate.
That entire movie just sacred me but the worst one for me was when Ellison put up the picture of the garden and when he put it back down bagul was right there in the trees
Didn't even flinch. Probably because of my heart attack.
haha same
Lol
hunterkiller1440 lol
Omg lmao 😂
Bro that is cool
I wasn't scared until you yelled BOO at the end!😂
I can't believe I fell for that boo also XD
Same here. I should've expected that, since this video is about jumpscares.
EthanRiley i almost shat myself SAME
EthanRiley Lol number 1 scared me, the Boo made me laugh xD
Now I'm prepared, I'm glad I read comments before I watch the video.
The scariest jump scare for me is when Jar Jar Binks show up in a Phantom Menace. Ugh, I still get nightmares to this day.
No! Don't make me remind of that shit
God is dead.
God's not dead
Emils deformity from RoboCop
Number one should have been my mom looking up at me after reading my report card.
We all feel you, man......
Mashed Up Monkey padme isn’t his mom idiot
Sabre Scene but he’s darth Vader and padme dies
@@swordguy4183 But doesnt mean shes his mom...😑
Here I was thinking a jump scare was when something suddenly pops out giving the viewer a fright....guess I was wrong.
The ending of paranormal activity is what I thought a jump scare was.
asasination23 Shut the fuck up spoiler
You ruined the movie to anyone who hasn't watch it.
What.
Oswaldo Sánchez If you think the movie was ruined by my comment you need to re watch the movie...settle down keyboard warrior.
^Wtf did he do?
Carrie was not psychic, she was telekinetic.
+PJ Angels okay
They said she was the villain, but I never thought of her that way
The normal people who persecuted her were the bad guys...
+Layla Walker ppl say that bc how she used her powers for revenge on the bullies
in the book she was able to "scan" minds for the truth.
Wow I'm surprised the lawnmower scene from sinister didn't make it on the list. I've seen a lot of horror movies but that one probably gave me the biggest jump scare lol
Daniel Sanchez same
We don't speak of that lawnmower...
Daniel Sanchez That part was freaky as fuck.
Yeah I shat myself
Daniel Sanchez Gosh those video tapes were creepy but the the lawnmower was totally unexpected. I might have jumped back from my computer and nearly made it fall on the ground.
you forgot one of the MOST iconic ones
Jaws: corpse scene
But, the nurse scene of exorcist III really got me jumped out my chair. Never saw such a frightening scene. Absolute classic.
The exorcist 3 Legion is the greatest one of all. There will never be one on par with it.
That is what makes it the greatest. The tension and fake outs and the sounds.

Jade Luke-Hurley oh yea, sorry, yea sinister was really good as well, to be fair i like a lot of recent horror movies (by recent i mean the last 5-10 years), even theat crappy annabelle movie scared me when i watched it in the cinema
Sinister/the ring are defiantly terrifying. What I liked about insidious is they made that song tiptoes through the tulips so creepy to listen to.
FESoren I'm 10, scared me once that's pretty much the only time it scared me, good movie.
Like 3 jump scares from the Woman in Black should be here
Right
true
I don't think watch mojo knows about Woman in black
Or men in black
DAAH WEUz really 😂😂😂
Where the hell is the Ben Gardner head from Jaws? Or the hospital bed nightmare from An American Werewolf in London? Those two still manage to get me every time.
+iJerseyDevil Ben Gardner head fucking kills me every fucking time.
Wow..
Oooh, hell, Ben Gardner! That scared the shit out of me! A couple of times after I had already seen it too!
Yea, American Werewolf woods scene still scares the hell outta me
+iJerseyDevil We watched this in a film class in high school and you could tell who had never seen the film before. Our teacher purposefully positioned himself to see everyone's faces just so he could enjoy watching half the class shit themselves.
Two that should have been at the highest on the list are the original "Poltergeist" and the original "Amityville Horror."
The infamous Clown Sequence in Poltergeist and Kathy seeing the glowing eyes of "Jody" outside of the window in Amityville are chilling examples of jump-scares done perfectly.
MaximumMadnessStixon In the Remake of Amityville is also a terrible scene, with the hanged girl in the background when the couple is busy having sex. That was terrible, too.
MaximumMadnessStixon You are so right.
+MaximumMadnessStixon poltergeist?? bahahahaha
Carrie the villain??? I'm sorry she was a victim of bullying. Her victims WERE victims as well but I do not see Carrie as a villainess.
Agree
Very true!
Ikr
Same, poor kid
No actually she is
When I saw the projector scene from IT in the theatre I almost dropped my bucket of popcorn.
Or the one where Beverly hits her dad in the bathroom and pennywise is behind her
You gotta wonder how much research they actually do on this stuff when they get the names of the characters wrong. The segment they showed of The Conjuring? That wasn't Lorraine in the basement. That was Carolyn. Lorraine is the ghost hunter, smart one.
+Katherine Wren I noticed that, too. It bugs the hell out of me.
+Katherine Wren I though the exact same thing as well, and in my opinion that was the best horror movie on the list. :(
+Saranda Krasniqi Right?! IMDB! Take 'em like, ten seconds tops!
+Deegee_ _ It drives me crazy when they miss things like that. It makes you wonder if any of them even watched the movie. To me it seems like they didn't even put in as much effort as I used to when I was using SparkNotes to BS college papers.
+anderson silva It really is. That's the only part that really made me jump.
damn you watchmojo...let the jump scare happen first.... then narrate about it
That's probably the only reason why I was able to get through this video lol
jabron2009 You're so darn right!
jabron2009 I didn't think of that, but it would've been so much more effective.
jabron2009 I fully agree, man.. I tried to mute my speakers to avoid this godforsaken narration and wait for the actual jump scare.. But hey, I missed it.. :(
jabron2009 Yeah. I didn't know the #1 and actually had to turn of the audio
one of my personal favorites is the scene in "The Descent" when we first get a good look at the creatures in the cave.
The blanket scene from the grudge deserves to be on here. Its one of the only jump scares that actually made me jump and be scared
The scene when Karen was on the bus was done better.
Plus it's just pure terror to know that there is truly no safe haven! FUCKER, I'M UNDER MY BLANKET, A SAFE PLACE! GET YO CREEPY ASS OUTTA MY BLANKETS!
Fucking Grudge. I fucking hate that God damn movie. Scared me shitless as a kid and still does in my mid 20s. Fuck that movie. And fuck the nightmares it still gives me.
Wow. Apparently WatchMojo don't even know what jumpscares are.
Xenoriddley The Alien one was probably my first jump scare as a kid... never wanted to sleep again :P
Dude I agree wit this was one of the worst list on watchmojo and where is mama, seemed like they only added iconic scary movies into the list
Well these scenes added up tension building up to the scare, not just a sudden loud noise.
MOVIE! NOT TRAILE- oh wait
Damn Squash I know not trailers, but I haven't watched the movie. And um... Why did you stop?
U8.ajd because trailers are basically sneak peaks into a movie
Damn Squash Oh. Ok.
Damn Squash even though they showed a lot in trailers, there's so much more jumpscares in the movie. They could fill this list up 1-10 with just that movie
I swear that scene from the Ring gave me the worst nightmares when I was a kid. I just saw it again and was just "meh".
Never seen it, what happened?
ye, "meh", and that night after writin' that comment, he couln't go to the bathroom alone, thinking about it again
You say "meh" but that night, you kept your light in your room on all night.
Lol yea
WHAT ABOUT THE ONE FROM ANNABELLE WERE THE LITTLE GIRL IS RUNNING TOWARDS THE DOOR THEN SHE GOS AWAY FOR ONE FRAME AND SHES A ADULT AND ITS LOUD
Omg,yess...so scary!!
Half of these aren't jump scares
Ikr
true
Ikr
My thoughts exactly!!
exactly
stay down here with me, its safer here
Grumpy cat agrees with you
CATS AND DOGS ARE LIVING TOGETHER?!?!
IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD

Sergio Gutierrez im on a boat ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
NOY(okokokoko)YON dats rasest
The beginning of 28 weeks later when that Zombie pops up from outside. I knew it was going to happen but it still scared the shit out of me.
Yeah. The one in 28 Days aswell when the infected jump into Jims house scared the fuck outta me.
Aron Lynch Oh yeah I think you're talking about the scene where the infected saw the light from the house and rushed over in his house and broke through the glass. Yeah that shit was scary as hell.
Yep thats the one :) still waiting for a sequel tho :/
+Iron Fistz Didn't like 28 weeks later. No subtlety. No-one was expecting the first.
+Bounty Hunter027 It scared me too :(
i was like 12 years old,i wasn't expecting that T_T
There was another scene in "The Conjuring" that made me jump out of my skin! The youngest sees something while in bed at night, and wakes her sister to tell her she saw someone. Older sis thinks she was only dreaming and shows her nobody's in there. As she's standing in the doorway to, she turns to say Good night to little sis. Who is staring, terrified and says "There's someone right behind you!" The audience seeing what she saw was a great jump scare, imo.
That Evil Dead one actually scared the crap outta me
DM_SSX The entire movie's scary as hell!!!
Nothing scares me
Deadpool are u batman and deadpools love child
DM_SSX There making another one I'm pretty hyped for it
DM_SSX ikr
What about the homeless dude popping out from behind the dumpster in the movie Mulholland Dr.? I remember that one startling me quite a bit.
Ohhh yes! The buildup to that one was extraordinary...
Rebecca Villarreal That scene was effective, it isn't as scary without the build up so you kind of have to watch the whole scene.
Psychological horror > simple jump scare. Yup.
Rebecca Villarreal Thats true, the most effective scares scare you in a deeper way than just simply startling you.
It's on the nonhorror jumpscare list.
If they wanted to show a jump scene from Insidious, they should've used the one where the psychic takes the picture at the end, and it shows that it is the old lady and not the husband!
Shane Hennenhoefer arhg now that I think about it again….still gives me shivers!
suuzj4 LOL, I KNOW! It freaks me out too.
+Shane Hennenhoefer yeah that was a good one or when the guy is flicking through the camera lenses and suddenly appears those 2 creepy twins right infront of him
+Shane Hennenhoefer nah not seen that part of the video but the bit when she is talking in the kitchen and his head appears
+The Black Johnny Gat Turns out i was right
The biggest jump scare from The Thing is the blood test scene.
Insidious series and The Conjuring to me are one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. Not only they have some good creepy things, but the story and how it connects is amazing as well.
The Grudge is missing though. The part when the girl gets "grabbed" from within her hoodie was fucking epic.
Insidious was so weak.
Nathan Estlund For you.
+Lati Sullivan yeah insidious and conjuring wasn't all that great and are pretty generic
darkestification for you
Lati Sullivan overrated movies not just for me
Sinister, the scene with the lawn mower, that was truly one of the most intense jump scares I've ever had.
+Roge War-Dragon THIS
the 'clap game' scene from The Conjuring is one of the best-constructed scare scenes I've ever seen.
i have watched SOOO many scary movies and jump scare vids but the only jusmp scare that has realy ever SCARED me like actually scared is when the deamon is standing behind the guy in insidious
same 😐
Yes!!!! I watched insidiuos yesterday and i was scared to death bye that jumpscare
The final scene in chapter 3 where that demon appeared again behind Elise freaked me out too
Finally...yes,right?
The only jumpscare I had in Insidious was the hammered piano which had 10 times the volume than the rest of the movie.
honestly, out of every scene showed I personally think the Alien, Saw & Insidious scenes are the only ones that actually qualifies as a proper jumpscare. just seeing something freaky in a movie doesn't automatically make it a jumpscare.
You choose the Conjuring and pick the clapping scene? That didn't scare me nearly as much as the demon on the top of the wardrobe, or Carolyn suddenly screaming in bed with the demon on top of her. BTW, it was Carolyn stuck in the basement, not Lorraine
+Alex McCullough He knew if he had picked the scene with the Mothers, all the mothers´d have hated him for it...he had to choose some other scene.
anything from Sinister but in particular the full version of the lawnmower home video.
I agree I've watched it 5 times and still i shit myself
XD
XCyclonusX Oh shit, you are right, it's terrible.
O-EH F*uck that lawnmower xD Best quote 2015 incoming.
XCyclonusX that lawnmower scene nearly scared the piss out of me
It's not scary when you keep talking ...
Daymon Rondino exactly like he explained the scare so you alredy know what to expect
shelby grant dont like it fuck off its simple asf
Dumbest comment. This is a discussion list. If you want actual scares watch the fucking movie.
That’s the point. He’s warning everyone because no one should get terrified in this video.
Ikr
The scene in Insidious Chapter 1 where the father walks in a house with the mannequin family. The sudden smiles. I hated that.
Yeah me too its freaking scary haha
TheMMoes when the frozen guy whistling, dude. Gets me. I whistle that tune around people who've seen the movie just to creep them out lol
That scene was great
Black Hole Sun smiles...That shit hit me hard.
I also liked the dialogue between George C Scott and Ned Flanders. like the conversation about the carp, or the part with the visit in the hospital.
+Grahf0 Ed Flanders actually, unless your thinking of The Simpsons. I've always thought it sounded like that though.
What?
True. It's number 2 that is trash.
5:44 "My name is jeff"
HAHAHAHAHAHA I FUCKING DIED LOL
LMAO
+Pascal Gunnlaugson Oh gosh, that's terribly hilarious XD can't stop laughing XD
LOL
LOL!!!
You picked the part in Jaws where the shark comes out of the water. Meh, not really "jumpy".
But the scene where Hooper was prying the shark tooth out of the hull, they dead guys pops out of the hole. That was a jump scare worth remembering.
To me it's much better to be scared by the actual story than to be caught off guard with something popping out with a loud noise.
Missed the point of jumpscares completely. The buildup is important. Watch now you see it.
Jump scares are way too common nowadays in horror movies.
I prefer when it actually scares you psychologically and not for just a brief moment.
That is being truly scared.
You know what is a RUclips video jumpscare?
Ads...
Thanks my friend. You too.
Barry Sabahat I thought E3 was almost as scary as the first one.
Pretty close! The first one had the advantage of being the first that the creepy stuff in it.
What happens in the sinister lawnmower scene????
Liam O'Connor Oh, I jumped at THAT =P
Well, if ur wondering what happens in the scene: you see 2 hands start a lawnmower and begin pushing it. It's just on the lawn for a bit, then suddenly a person o the ground comes into view and the lawnmower goes over it. It was loud and creepy
Amity Bread sounds creepy
Liam O'Connor When I first watched it it scared the shit outta me.
Amity Bread just watched it its scary as hell!!!!
That one from the conjuring wasn't scary, it probably would have been if it wasn't in the trailer.
Daenerys Targaryen Yeah. Really, it was just the whole situation that was pretty freaky, not just the clap.
Daenerys Targaryen The whole film wasn't scary; It was boring asf.
I just didn't think the Conjuring was that good. It was predictable and cliche ridden.
I loved the one from the ring where a jumpscare was completely randomly thrown in the middle of a conversation, with no sound added. I really wasn't expecting that.
The lawnmower scene from the first Sinister movie??
Totally forgot about that one, that's a good one. Or in sinister 2 when the boogie man popped up. I knew it was gonna happen, but it still scares me lol
Chestney Chiller is Sinister 2 any good? I haven't had the chance to check it out yet
+Jamez Gray it's not as good as the first
Not as scary as sinister 1 in my opinion.
+Jamez Gray i came here expecting it, but i was watching this shit, and jesus, i couldn't hear what the guy was saying so i turned the vol up all the way and then BOW
The Visit, Gramma finds the camera...
+Papa McCain Don't worry, it just your Nana...
+Papa McCain Saw it coming a mile away. YAHTZEE!
The visit, Gramma finds the search history.
JumpSpace FTW Not my search history I hope! LOL
Definitely! That scared the hell out of everyone. Including me lol
Ha! Trollolololololo! 😝😝😝
Yeah that was the scariest jump scare I got in a long time!
Welcome to the comments section, Dont worry You're safe now...Here's some milk and biscuits 🍼🍼🍪🍪
Jumpscares piss me off, they're so cheap
jump scares just dont work anymore in my opinion, way to many, way to often used etc.
Have you seen "Darkness falls"?
ulllaaaklara lol that movie is bad.
TheHorreK2 No they can still work
TheHorreK2 depends on how you do it
They can work but only wen you are not expecting one
*snores* oh i'm sorry, I thought you said jump scares...
Kelly Wilson Ha ha ha ha ha!
Super tato Haha, I just found none of these scary
Kelly Wilson
ikr
Kelly Wilson This top isn't made to scare you, if you wanted to be scared you should have watched the movies, setting and build up is most of the time more important than the jumpscare itself, the top spot is a perfect example of that. Here you are told beforehand and the build up is completely taken away.
Kelly Wilson Well of course not, the narrator tells you whats gonna happen before it does.
Nr 1 wasn't scary at all... It was down right hilarius. It's almost like a scene from a Monty Pyton sketch.
SaproPhycs Derpy You don't know what you're talking about. I saw that movie in the theatre, and people freaked out at that scene. I took over a minute for the people to calm down after it.
MrAlejux I don't care if it was scary in theatres, that was so funny for me, it looked like someone wearing a sheet going "WoOoOOoOOoOoo".
Girls girls ur both pretty stop arguing now
Charles Roguespierre lmao! Likewise.
Charles Roguespierre Completely agree. When i saw it i literally burst out laughing
Absolutely agree with # 1, one of the greatest scenes ever!!! I would add the "look what she made me do!" scene with the sheriff on The Conjuring.
But now that you mention a creepy confessional scene, I may have to give it a watch after all. ;)
+dantespimp Do.
It's just a voice speaking out of the darkness but it'll make your hair stand on end.
If Watchmojo doesn't put the defibrillation scene from The Thing in a list, they're not happy.
😂😂😂 I was thinkin the same!
And the chestbuster from Alien, though it technically didn't make the list this time it was still in the video.
The scene in the Excorcist where Regan is being examined in the hospital and she sees the Demon 'Pazuzu' through the darkness is horrifying. One of the few scenes I cant watch!
Hugh Sweeney Hey, didn't they name an airport after her?
+Hugh Sweeney me to! and when she turns her head, and her face shows
you mean the full head rotation?
+Hugh Sweeney When I saw it, after having fallen asleep through most of the movie I was like ´finally, shit happened´.
Jason jumping out of the water at the end of Friday the 13th was the scariest jump seen ever.
Who needs sleep anyways...
Everyone.
Not me
Straya
1:19am for me
Australia!
Meh, not me. I have insomnia and still face getting up and going to school at 7:30 every day!
There's tons of older scary movies that are scary than today's movies
Honorable mention: Lights Out, someone in the doorway, lights on, someone gone, lights out, someone in the doorway, lights on, someone gone, lights out, someone standing right in front of you...
Evil Dead is one of my most favorite horror movies ever!
i gotta say, that lawnmower scene in Sinister scared the shit outta me! So loud man...
That Insidious scene is one of the greatest scenes in horror film history
Yes the first time I saw that scared the crap out of me!
The scene when he went in the dream world and that family was smiling behind him that shit made me jump
Bullshit.the thing,alien,evil dead,the exorcist,the omen have better scenes
Have you ever seen any other horror films than insidious? That scene is not even top 100
My arse. I'm a complete pussy, and that scene is just funny.
3 James Wan movies featured on this episode. The Conjuring, Insidious, and Saw. I love those movies, and James Wan as a director and Leigh Whannell as a writer. Plus their movies aren't loaded with jumpscares like a lot of other movies out there.
TheMarionick I love that movie!! I swear James Wan and Leigh Whannell are a mastermind pair when it comes to modern day horror!!
TheMarionick haha. Whoops :/. Great jumpscare though!!
Hope Wan goes back to making horror movies, but not sure if he will or not.
Edward Chamberlin Insidious 3 is coming out this year. Considering how many he has done I doubt he will leave the genre.
Seeing the insidious scene again with the demon made me jump and scream, still...lmao. I knew it was coming but damn. Maybe it's the music lmao
10:38
Oh hey,an actual jump scare.
😂😂😂😂😂 her acting when she sees mrs.bates it's like she just found out 1D is getting back together 😂😂😂
Signs when the alien is walking across the alley on the tv footage
pandaland1 so true.
Exorcist 3 is a awesome film very underrated.
Seriously they didnt include the scene from The Exorcist where you see the face of Captain Howdy? I remember watching that scene in my room with the lights off and good God i had trouble sleeping for almost a month.
Top 10 video game jumpscares?
AbductedSteve Outlast would probably be on that list...=)
P.T
AbductedSteve Amnesia the dark descent from 10 to 1. xD
Mr - Dan i guess, it's not jumpscare, but simply scary because of the atmosphere (scary and freaky :D)
***** If it was called "Top ten Cheap Jumpscares" then yeah you're right.
FUCKING SINISTER IT HAS LIKE 20
evild dead is my opinion one of the best movies of decade !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanasis thk1991 The original trilogy were also amazing along with the remake. Remake are usually worse than the originals but I think the remake is just as good.
Agreed!
I don't think you guys understand what a jumps care is...
Yea this was not scary
+Endangered Specie I don't care :P
Endangered Specie I think that the video was supposed to be about the jumpscares that scared most people in theathers. idk.
Suosittelen että googlaat tuon mieluummin kuin kysyt täältä. Ihmiset pitäisivät sinua hieman köh köh vajakkina. SIIS en tarkoita että itse sanoisin näin.. ehehehe
Internet on rankka paikka poikaseni.
Can't believe that Jason jumping out of the Crystal Lake didn't make the list and no mention of the hands through the wall in Day Of The Dead, and the hand out of the grave in the Father's Day story of Creepshow 1.
Where's the Sininster Lawnmower scene :O, I do agree with the Nr. 1 though
8:48 - I simply thought it looks like the bad guy from the Star Wars Prequel ._.
Lmao it's Darth Maul
+Emma Playz yeah....that badass who duel wield light sabers
+Jinhunter Slay Nah he didn't dual wield, he had a double sided lightsaber. Still just as badass though.
GentlemanGeniusRailman yeah that's what I meant. The double-sided light saber
***** I believe so. I really like his design compared to all the other Star Wars characters too
Best jump scare ever is when you open you're wallet and it's empty
they finally got it right for no.1 and believe when i tell you that on that scene the WHOLE theatre screamed
