In my humble opinion, the price points for the age of the whisky are a killer value. Heaven Hill just sold everyone that could get one a 20 year corn whiskey for $290 which basically tasted like aged Mellow Corn. Nothing to write home about on that one. These whiskies are different, they’re delicious, they’re quality, they’re high aged, and they’re a great value. Keep it up Found North. Huge fan here.
Found North is really putting out some amazing whisky. Nick is a solid guy and is always transparent with what they do. I have various batches plus 3 of their recent single barrel picks/releases. Clearly, I'm a big fan of Found North! Cheers 🥃

I got the batch 004 for 145 when it hit the Binny’s shelf last year. Also the batch 003. While they are on the high end of comparable bottles I really enjoy the blends. I’ve paid more for Kentucky whiskies that we’re not as enjoyable.
Just got the new single barrel that they released and it's absolutely amazing, probably the best nose of any whiskey I've smelled it's like a fresh baked blueberry pie

Missed out on the Batch 005, but I have heard really good things about it.... especially if one digs Wheaters. Given the ages, finishes, and the quality of base whiskies and blending I think the low to mid 100s pricing is great value!
Great review. I have the 17 year batch 6 and think it is really good. I agree it is different from Bourbon but I think most bourbon drinkers would like it.
My cousin was a Crown Royal fan but has gone to Woodford Reserve Double Barrel... I've have several favorites thanks to your help... I enjoyed Old forester 1910 now. But tonight I having Wild Turkey 101 Rye.
Enjoyed this episode a lot. Great job giving an objective review. I’m intrigued by what these guys are doing and appreciate the artisanship of the blends they are creating. I give them props for being original in their approach and will probably go try that rye out. But thanks for being honest. At the end of the day Canadian whisky is a different animal.
25yrs aging is definitley a long time, and I'll look into getting a pour. But age doesn't always = quality (Dickel 😮). And I've seen 24yr scotches at Costco for $80 as well as independant bottlers under $200 for 20yr+. Very informative and through video, cheers!
Snort: INFORMAL, a measure of an alcoholic drink. "a bottle of rum was opened and they took a good long snort" That being said, I really enjoyed the show and now looking for Found North whisky. Thank you !
I have all the batches except batch 2. I have quite a few $100+ bourbons and ryes but I find myself sipping found north almost on a daily basis, especially batch 4 and batch 6. I also have their latest single barrel offering (finished in px sherry butt) and that is also fantastic.
I’ve been fortunate to get all their batches and two Single Barrel releases. I wouldn’t have known about them if not for a local store I trust. So glad I was exposed to them on their first batch.
A few favorites from this Canadian: Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye, Lot 40 Rye, Canadian Club 20 year (or 40 or 44 year if you can get it - it's pretty affordable actually), Pike Creek 10yr, Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye, Wayne Gretzky Maple Cask Finished Whisky.
I had batches 3 & 4 and recently picked up 5 & 6 along with a Rye Single barrel expression with a PX finish. I very much enjoy all of them. But yes, the price points can be hard to get past. Personally I think there is value in these for the quality and age of the whiskies in the blend, along with the time and effort they are putting into them to try and put out a tasty product. I know it isn't quite apples to apples, but if you try to equate this to the bourbon world in this market, all of these would probably be $350+. But I agree with Kurt as well in the sense do they provide a $100+ drinking experience to the user? That will obviously depend on the user. Very much enjoyed the coverage and your opinions on these. As always...well done...Cheers!
I got a store pick a couple months ago finished in calvados cask thats absolutely amazing. It was $90-95. Yesterday i had batch 3 and batch 5. I like batch 3 better than batch 5, but i bought batch 5 for $113 because it was the only time i have seen it. I could have got batch 3 for $120, but i see that one often, as well as batch 6, so i got the 5. I will get the batch 3 as well because that is amazing. I usually see batch 3 for $125-135. Yesterday for $120 was the best i seen it. Batch 3 is definitely better, but since i never seen the 5 i had to get that. I have no problem paying $125-135 for the batch 3 if i cant get it for $120 like i could have yesterday. Mash and drum actually had batch 3 or 6 in his top 12 of 2022. Found north makes some amazing juice. Im from MA, had no idea they were in NH. Dover is only 30-40mins from me. Would love to go there at some point
I first heard about Found North about two months ago and have kept an eye out for the product, but I've yet to find it in my batch of Wisconsin. Hoping to one day stumble upon a bottle to buy. But in the meantime, I have this video!
Batch 5 is delicious. I also have a single barrel coming from Reddit bourbon selected by Jay West(T8ke). These guys are great, possibly better than Barrell, which is another favorite Brand for me.
Interesting show, very enjoyable. My go too shows are SLB for bourbon and aquavita for Scotch. Your last show had two whiskey's on my to buy list, Victoriana and the quarter cask. Love the Arran 10. Kurt have you tried the Balblair 12 , would recommend. Could you both recommend a good bourbon and a rye. I Enjoy turkey 101 and makers 46. Am a novice when it comes to bourbon/rye I'm a Yorkshire man living in Oz so my bourbon selection maybe slightly limited 🥃
If you can’t find this, another totally underrated Canadian whiskey is Alberta Premium Cask Strength. SLB did a line up that included it against Michter’s and Four Gate, but the Alberta won. Great stuff.
Canadians make straight single grain whisky, then proof it down or add coloring. OR American companies buy it (Pendelton, Whistlepig, et al) and they sell it straight. these are made to be cask strength and oily and blended, and Found North hits that so perfect. You kept saying mash bill, but it is not a mash bill. These are blended after the fact and it makes a huge difference. You control the grain flavors. 100 pounds of corn has more sugars makes way more whiskey than 100 pound of rye.
Bought batch 3 after watching a glowing review from another respected whiskey channel 6 months ago. Pricey - yup, fantastic - yes! Agree with you on the value quandary. At $10 / yr on the current "valuation standards", these are absolutely fair to good or even very good values BUT are they a good value for YOU?? Completely depends on your individual palate . Limited distribution makes these a little difficult to find and extremely difficult to get a pour anywhere. ( you can order online ) Another great tasting note from Trenton -"standing in the lumber department at Home Depot while someone is staining wood with honey" Holy crap - the man is a tasting note savant. 20% now
These are the only Canadian whiskeys I’d actually want to try. No additive scotches and rums are the only ones I buy as well. That’s what I love about bourbon - no guess work involved.
There are no additives in Canadian Whisky. You can blend in other spirits but those must be aged in oak for minimum 2 years, i.e. sherry, cognac, Rum, etc. Found North gets the aged distillate from the old Palliser (Black Velvet) distillery and Valleyfield distillery in Quebec. They may get some aged wheat distillate from Highwood in Alberta. Canada gets only bottom shelf mixers from these distilleries. The best Canadian whisky distilled in Canada at this moment is being released by Shelter Point and Two Brewers and they concentrate mostly single malt's. The large Canadian distilleries basically release the same pedestrian whisky that they always have.
@@BoozeandNewswithTimandDut Nope. Flavored is not whisky. Canadian whisky must be 40% ABV, Crown flavored are 35% ABV I believe. Is Jim Beam Honey Bourbon?
@@peterwhite507 bourbon can't be flavored, Whiskey can be. What's different between a flavored Whiskey and liqueur is percentage of alcohol. Whiskey has to be atleast 40% under that's its a liqueur
@@BoozeandNewswithTimandDut You cannot put additives in "Canadian Whisky" was the statement. If you do, it is not Canadian Whisky by definition. I don't care because I have a lot of secondary barrel finished Bourbon. Makes no difference to me since I don't drink Crown Royal, just the perception of what you can't and cannot do with Canadian Whisky is a lot of misinformation.
We cannot get these in Canada, they sound great. I would hazard a guess these are sourced from Walkers/Corby's. Regarding additives, sadly most of the export Whisky sent to the USA is blended wit h neutral grain spirit after it crosses the border. We do not see any of that stuff. Excellent review
Is there any particular reason you’re comparing it to Crown Royal or is it just because it’s from Canada? Good video regardless I’ll be keeping my eye out for this stuff when I’m at my local place from now on.

I meant my Second Job.... not second joy.... working another 8 1/2 years after 35 years at a car production factory wasn't what I planned on, but it pays for all my activities today..
I hope it would be considering I can buy 3 half gallons of CR for what the cheapest of these would cost. I might try it but probably won't see it in liquor stores in NH even though they are from NH.
These look fascinating, if a little pricey. It sounds like these guys are aiming to become the North American version of Compass Box. A great model to work from. Ones to look for on my next trip to Binny's or New Hampshire!
Ok why is it $10 a year for Bourbon but not other whiskey? I also don't understand why it's so hard to find Bourbon 's that are 15 & 20 years, but for most other whiskey 's they are common?
@@HHartman2 I live 15 minutes from FC Distillery. They don't make Copper Pot anymore, now Copper Bold. They have not had a decent special release imo since Evolution.
Not a Canadian whiskey, loving guy crown and all of the other whiskey distilleries their products including beer is just off to me. Would try these but the price point is a bit high for me. If I could taste these first I’d go with the rye first. Don’t think my area will get these around here it seems we just get the same old stuff all the time. Possibly we need a new distributor..
Remember , some of these would be bourbons if they were just made in the US. So consider them a canadian bourbon. But if a 25yr old was good, why would you blend it?
Probably because the 25 year or greater are always 100% corn. High aged Canadian corn whisky is obviously not that rare in Canada. Even Canadian Club chronicles 42-44 year Corn whiskies were blended with small amounts of Rye, Sherry and Cognac (9.09%) so the age statements would still qualify. The 40 and 45 year releases remained 100% corn.
None of these would be bourbon's They are not aged in charred white oak. Canadians do not use a mash bill, the whisky's are straight from a single grain then blended. The idea that blending is bad is weird. By blending you control the influence of each grain more.
crown royal is so mid. There are so many great Canadian whiskeys now. If you can find yourself a bottle Great Plains whiskey, incredible bottle. best in the country,
Just my luck........I ordered the most expensive blend about 8 months ago after watching Jason on Mash & Drum. About a month went by and I went on Vacation.
I am looking to add one of these to my bar. In your opinion what would be the best one to start out with?
If Found North is watching, get these to Alberta liquor stores and watch them disappear.
Crazy we can't get it here in Alberta!
@@craigbutler623 if it shows up in Canada, it will be Alberta
These look fascinating, if a little pricey. It sounds like these guys are aiming to become the North American version of Compass Box. A great model to work from. Ones to look for on my next trip to Binny's or New Hampshire!
I think these are worth a look if you have a chance to give them a try. Have a great weekend Robert! :)
@@russd2888 Shhhhh! (I ordered Batch 003.)
@@Robert.Sheard LOL...AttaBoy! Will have to let me know what ya think...hope you enjoy it!
I get a headache in Bath and Body Works as well, Kurt.
Dang it doesn't seem like you can get this in Canada. Too bad, looks amazing!
Wouldn't the second bottle's second blend have to be 8yr since it's an 8yr stated bottle and the first blend in it was older?
Did someone say “TEQUILA” 🤤
I found the prices north of reasonable.
I was just wondering yesterday if you had ever done a New England tasting
Great content 👌
Comments seem to love this stuff
can you do a review on calumet 15 year i watch you guys all the time would love to see a review on it
curious if anyone knows what distributor SLB uses for there patron barrel picks. Want to see if they ship to my area before I sign up. Thanks
Sure would like to know the distribution by state.
My personal favourite Canadian is JP Wisers 23 Cask Strenght
That is a good one, no doubt! I have the 24 Year Cask Strength as well, which is very similar and about 10 proof points lower.
@@JonBlankman I will look that one up for sure!
Wisers makes me smile
Ok why is it $10 a year for Bourbon but not other whiskey? I also don't understand why it's so hard to find Bourbon 's that are 15 & 20 years, but for most other whiskey 's they are common?
Are they Canadian Dollars and not US Dollars?
They don't sell it in Canada, so I would imagine usd
I have had these in Vegas, they are good, but I do not think they are worth the price!!
You need to try Forty Creek. One of the very best in Canada.
I hope we can do better than Forty Creek
Have you tried Cooper Pot or one of their special releases?
@@HHartman2 I live 15 minutes from FC Distillery. They don't make Copper Pot anymore, now Copper Bold. They have not had a decent special release imo since Evolution.
I am sorry to hear this. I just finished my last bottle of Copper Pot.
@@HHartman2 Probably some around if you look or Alberta. Not sure a name change for a whisky is a good thing for the consumer. :)
Awesome video
Not a Canadian whiskey, loving guy crown and all of the other whiskey distilleries their products including beer is just off to me. Would try these but the price point is a bit high for me. If I could taste these first I’d go with the rye first. Don’t think my area will get these around here it seems we just get the same old stuff all the time. Possibly we need a new distributor..
You've sold me - you and apparently every other comment here. Gotta get me some!
I think a more appropriate question is "what whiskey isnt better than crown royal?". Theres not many of them.
What isn’t better than crown?
The faces that Trenton makes after drinking the first 2 really confused me- does he like it, hate it? Apparently that's his ," It's really good" look.
Price, American or Canadian? 🇺🇲🇨🇦
Those are US dollars as it’s ‘made’ in the US and not available in CA. Liquid is sourced from CA.
"Weird" 😅
Lot 40, Forty Creek, Pike Creek, Gooderham & Worts have some much better bottles than any of these you looked at.
I’m at 6 minutes and been interrupted 3 times for ads. Does this happen to everyone?
No adds at all during the vid.
No ads for me either. If you answer all their surveys you don't get ads 😂
crown royal is so mid. There are so many great Canadian whiskeys now. If you can find yourself a bottle Great Plains whiskey, incredible bottle. best in the country,
I’ve got the 8 year and it is, to me, lacking in the flavor. Not sure worth the $$.
Just my luck........I ordered the most expensive blend about 8 months ago after watching Jason on Mash & Drum. About a month went by and I went on Vacation. U.P.S. attempted delivery and of course I wasn't home, so they returned my order to Found North. I contacted Found North and was told that I would have to pay an additional Shipping Fee to receive the Bottle. I agreed and paid. Still haven't received the 150.00 bottle, nor will they reply to my Email inquiries. Needless to say........I won't be purchasing from them again.
That is lame - shame on them. Sorry bro
Hey Robert -- Zach Taylor here. I'm a co-founder of Found North. Really bummed to hear you had this experience. We don't fulfill orders as we can't legally. Would you please email my co-founder and me (our email is on our website and if I post it here youtube filters out my reply) and we will handle this promptly with our ecomm partner to get you your bottle asap (or a refund if you prefer) and refund your shipping. Not sure what dropped but we will make it right.
On a brighter note thanks all for the great comments and to SLB for this outstanding video. Can't tell you how much it means to us to get this kind of feedback and to know folks are enjoying our whiskies. Truly awesome and keeps us excited to make more.
