This movie is fantastic. It's like an existential nightmare. The editing is great too. But the whole reason joe wants to be a hustler is because he's been sexualised as a cowboy since childhood by his grandma. He thinks that is what his role is. He's uneducated and dumb, so he just thinks his sexuality is all he's got to offer. It's hinted that his grandma neglected/ abused him, and this is the key to his character. Nothing in this movie is spelled out, you have to pay attention. Great review 👍
This has got to be the most entertaining movie review I've ever seen. Your commentary is priceless, an absolute hoot. Also, its pronounced "SHLESS-singer".
it's not exactly a romance movie (couldn't do that pre-70s, I mean look up why they gave the movie an X-rating) but there's definitely scenes that people would see as being that way if it was one boy and one girl, like running along a beach together. lookin at it from that angle makes the ending a lot sadder in retrospect
Midnight Cowboy was filmed thru May 6, 1968 to Sep 13, 1968 and Jon Voight was 29 year olds during filming and Dustin Hoffman was 30 going on 31 during filming now they both are 85 and 87 damn
A movie about two broken, down and out soles. One was from the country Texas or Oklahoma. The other was from the big city. Joe Buck was a tall, blonde hair, blue eyed, good looking man who leaves Texas or Oklahoma to find his calling as a gigolo or kept lover in New York City to women who were divorced or widowed. They were the old money WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) type. Only when arriving, the city is not very friendly. Ratso Rizzo was a homeless con man, grifter, short change artist.
