    I’m always wary of adult celebrities that really lean into parasocial relationships with minors. Why do you want to befriend children so bad? Having a healthy relationship with a child is one thing, but when that child idolizes you, I would imagine that what’s deems as “fair” and “appropriate” goes out the window. It gives “I can’t sustain any long lasting relationships with ppl my own age so I have to prey on children.” I also can’t think of anything good that comes out trying to befriend someone that literally worships you…the power imbalance is just too severe. These ppl are ill.

    • @GalaxiaTokyo
      @GalaxiaTokyo Год назад +12

      But I think that's quite dehumanizing to children and teenagers. Why are adults friends with other adults? Presumably, because they have good qualities: intelligence, humor, kindness, talents, values, interests, etc., which make interactions enjoyable. So saying that it is absurd for an older person to be friends with someone younger, you are implying that they lack all those qualities, and they are essentially unlikable and their opinions are stupid and so on. It's the same sort of view that makes parents not spend time with their children: "Why should I talk to them? Their thoughts are dumb, their interests are non-sense, so they should all just watch cartoons while I am at the bar, because they don't matter as people, but only matter to the extent that they manage to exhibit typical adult activities and speech."

    • @Alltherestofus
      @Alltherestofus Год назад +56

      @@GalaxiaTokyo not at all what I’m saying. Why would a CELEBRITY want to befriend a CHILD to this extent? Answer that. Adults usually don’t get this close to children without dangerous caveats which initially go unnoticed. There’s a difference between having a relationship with a child where there are patent boundaries: the child is aware of their role as a child, and the same thing said for the adult. Surely you can make out that it’s okay for an adult to speak to a child and sustain an appropriate relationship with one without it developing into predatory behavior. In fact, I think children should be encouraged to lean onto other adults in their lives who are not their parents. With this particular case, its very apparent that’s not what happened. Lines were blurred and people (minors at the time) suffered immensely. The intensity and severity of this case rests on the consequences of parasocial relationships, and you can’t convince me otherwise shawty.

    • @Alltherestofus
      @Alltherestofus Год назад +21

      @@GalaxiaTokyo not once did you acknowledge how this can develop into something predatory and exploitative, which is side of the argument I’m focused on. I never implied that children are basically imbeciles who are incapable of providing anything to a healthy relationship simply because they’re a child. Unfortunately, you misinterpreted my words (intentionally, I think)

    • @GalaxiaTokyo
      @GalaxiaTokyo Год назад +7

      What is their "role as a child"? It sounds to me as if you are saying that friendliness towards a teen should be restricted to basically, patronizing them; an adult coldly giving advice to a teen, and a teen being unable to be sincere or ascertive because they should know their place as fundamentally segregated from adults. It's kind of the same way we treat pets, with condescention, laighing at them rather than with them. You can even argue that this leads to likewise predatory scenarios, where children are taught to be individuals without agency and social worth, and adults are moved to know better than the child and tell them what to think.

      I don’t think that was Madisyn’s intention to say that it was a “pass” on Coleen for her behavior; I think moreso she was trying to explain that Coleen has this weird view of her fans, with her thinking that they were able to understand sexually charged content that were “jokes” made for adults, but if you look at her GC messages with her fans and the way she spoke to Adam, she talks to them as if they’re also 20 or 30 sometning adults who can relate to her as a 30 something adult instead of seeing them for who they are: kids who are in their own developmental stage and vulnerable to this kind of behavior that would leave a huge impression on them. The problem is that Coleen still sees these fans as just over exaggerating what she did, because she can’t fathom that kids are not supposed to be exposed to this stuff. Idk if Coleen herself was exposed to this type of behavior when she was young and maybe that’s why she sees it as acceptable, but the fact that she can’t step out of her box and even try to empathize with her victims and former fans is not okay, and her doubling down is what makes her response even worse.

Thumbnails, live show scenarios, private chats, exploiting underage kids for labor and setting them up as scapegoats...this was intentional, and shes only pulling the "I was just so socially awkward tee hee" to escape accountability like all abusers.
    hitting that "they didnt say I couldnt sing!" and showing everyone who the singer is here, GO MADISYN!
    imho the idea that she sang it so everyone who clipped it could be copyright claimed seems like what she was probably going for, along with a dose of "this is so absurd people will talk about ME instead of what I've done to so many CHILDREN" which thankfully nobodys bought into. SO many signs of narcissistic delusion...I'm so glad I listened to my gut all those years ago and never went close to her Miranda content, and figured out something was wrong when she and her ex split. HORRIFIED at how many people are speaking on what shes done to them, and we all know theres MANY more. She, like many abusers, hid in plain sight and relied on the people (children) she abused to shield her. Some of them are mentally 17 still. It sucks being a grown up (i can def say that as a mil/genz cusper) but you have to use your big-girl brain and think about important things like protecting younger people.

    I’m going to be honest, I get the impression that some RUclipsrs who started as a teen and made it big (so they didn’t go through traditional struggles that matured them) still feel like a teen. Inside.
    Like, when they were teen RUclipsrs their audience was their peers. But as they age, fans leave, and new younger fans join. New young fans who don’t think of them as “one of us” but as a successful, famous celebrity they look up to. And the youtubers don’t realize the dynamic has altered.
    They still feel they are closer to a teen then they are. And they still think their audience see them as “a friend” not a role model. And so they think it’s not that big a deal. They think they are relatable and funny.
    And I 💯 agree with this video about the content. If you look at the original content that made people like Colleen famous, it’s not aging well.

This “humor” was never funny to the people who were hurt by the jokes. So many early RUclipsrs had racism scandals. It certainly was not Black millennials buying Jeffree merch. 😮‍💨 & where TF are these kids parents? Yes shame on the adult for manipulating children absolutely inappropriate behavior no excuses. A lot of these people getting caught up with Minors seem like they have retained the mindset of a kid or teen themselves, despite being an adult. Have you guys noticed that? An adult lacking mental maturity/stability that finds themselves in a position of idolization is a problem waiting to happen.
    The lack of parental supervision these days is mind baffling, all these “adults” ;that are still mentally children) are unwilling to put their lives on hold after popping out some kids and thus they let the internet and television raise the brats for them. I thinks that’s why things are so messed up.

      Adam spoke on the fact that his parents prevented him from having access to the underwear, but that didnt stop him from GETTING them or for working for Colleen for free. She markets her stuff toward children obviously, and hides a lot of what she does in thumbnails or quick comments. its very intentional Hiding In Plain Sight abuser behavior--yes parents should monitor but I dont blame them for not being able to catch this woman basically orchestrating abuse over 10-15 years

    personal i think she knew what she was doing. She had kids doing things and saying things like "send pics" when talking about there body. Like... And even for the time it was weird but the way she handled it is just salt to the cut.

    I dont believe the whole "mY tEam toLD Me nOt tO SaY AnYtHinG" bullshit. She was FAR to vauge and downplayed everything, it was a lawyer's statement with a god awful chorus! I think she said that for brownie points for her tween fans so they could try to use that to defend her "shes so bold and brace for speaking even when her team told her not to!" I dont think its too far fetch of a thought seeing how she manipulated these children for years

    Cruel World Happy Mind made a great video on the ‘Miranda Sings’ woman! I agree with both of your videos on her. She needs to take accountability for what she has done and do better. She has enough money to take a break and rethink of what she has done. I do not know if legal chargers are going to happen, but she better be ready. There are a lot of evidence out there against her.
    As for Millennial RUclips, I was not around during that time of RUclips. I started to watch content creators consistently in 2020 when I started to create content myself. In a way, I’m happy that I started late on my RUclips consumption. The wait saved my young self😅.

    Isn’t para social relationships where there’s one way communication? Like traditional celebrities pre-social media. The celebrity could communicate with fans but were inaccessible for fans to respond. So fans would just idealize and project onto the celebrity.
    I feel like part of the inappropriate behaviour by Colleen here was that the relationship went past a para-social one which made the kids feel special. And this also allowed her to use the threat of withdrawing from the kids and returning to the para-social dynamic as a threat to get them to do what she wanted.
    I’m not sure if we have the right language yet to describe the interpersonal dynamics that have arisen from social media.

      Interesting question!
      I certainly agree with you that pre-social media celebrity-audience relationships were much different. In some ways I think it influenced this “celebrities are famous magic creatures” idea of the past. Now we’ve got this general understanding that celebrities are humans that have a cool job. And they might even DM you back on twitter!
      I think in this Colleen situation, we have an example where both the audience and the performer were neck deep in parasocial relationships. Colleen didn’t really know these fans in the group chat any more than they didn’t really know Colleen.

    She’s clearly a narcissist, incapable of empathizing with other people because she’s so wrapped in herself and unable to truly see herself as the bad guy. It’s hard to take responsibility, but she refuses to acknowledge that she could actually screw up bad enough to be a bad person.
