  • As I am making my way up towards Thailand again I had to stop off at Ipoh and see what all the fuss was about. It has been known to be famous for its white coffee and Ipoh tart so thats exactly what I looked out for in this video. Also I stayed at the incredible Haven Resort not far outside of Ipoh City itself and I did not want to leave - it really was a hidden paradise in Malaysia.

FXN gave a good list. I spent my formative years in Ipoh and because it’s often not in most international tourists’ itinerary, it’s like a secret favourite among locals. I’m sure you’ll be visiting the caves but I’d say try to also visit the tin mine museum as Ipoh (well the state of Perak actually) was one of the world’s top exporters of tin. This gave the city its wealth back in the day.
I think your egg tarts aren’t the ones we usually go for - they’re usually yellow. I usually go to the original old town coffee shop. But man, the ones you got looked totally delicious!
Ipoh used to be known as one of the cleanest cities in Malaysia, its extra clean water, beautiful girls (I mean this in a good way) and friendly folk.
Other than that, taking it easy is what the locals love doing most. We have one of the best breakfast coffee shops. Curry noodles, wan ton noodles, dim sum, chee cheong fun are some of the specialties (there is a distinct Cantonese influence here).
For good Malay food, laksa sarang is quite the craze these days I hear.
Someone commented Kuala Kangsar, which would be interesting due to the palaces and a beautiful mosque, but I don’t think you’d be allowed to enter both, and mosques require you to be dressed with proper trousers, and with a sleeved shirt.
    Enjoy your time there!

Most tourists are mesmerized by KL. But most malaysians live in smaller cities or towns. Less hype. Less hectic. More value for money.
It is unfortunate that there is no commuter rail service centered in Ipoh, serving towns ftom Taiping to Tapah. That would improve Ipoh as a tourist centre and stopover.
There are many hidden gems in Ipoh. Only known to locals.

Great that your visited Ipoh. You should visit Redang and Perhentian Islands in the Eastern part of Peninsular Malaysia. Some of the bluest clear waters you will find in this part of the world, especially in Kapas Island. Also you need to visit Malaysian Borneo before you leave Malaysia. It has the world's largest caves and cave openings in Mulu, Sarawak state and the world's only comprehensive Sun Bear rehabilitation centre and an Orang Utan rehabalitation centre, both near Sandakan in Sabah state.

Terima kasih mate.... There's a lot more to explore in this hidden historical gem state...
The Flag White+Yellow+Black represent the state of Ipoh which is Perak one of the 14 states in Malaysia as you can see in the flag.
The name of the national flag is Jalur Gemilang meaning 'Stripes of Excellence (or Glory)'. It has 14 red and white stripes represent the 13 member states plus the Federal Government. The blue canton contains a 14 point star called Bintang Persekutuan, or Federal Star, representing unity between the 13 states and the Federal Government. The crescent represents Islam, the official religion. Blue represents the unity of the Malaysian people and yellow is the royal colour of the Malay rulers...LONG LIFE THE KING!
Enjoy your stay and welcome to IPOH....✌️

White coffee is not condensed milk. They are roasted at low temperature keeping the caffeine. Sometimes roasted with margerine or butter...depends on recipe
