Probably, another reason for Dimash choosing this piece as his second song was two-fold. Firstly, he'd sung the song numerous times prior to this show - once on a Kazakh comedy TV spot!. Secondly, he knew that nearly all in this audience would be familiar with the song, as Vitas had a huge hit with it throughout Asia and Europe. You could see on the faces in some in the audience their rapt anticipation for what they were hoping would be coming - and he completely surprised everyone!

One of my most favorite stories about our beloved Dimash is when, about a month or so later, there was an interview where Dimash admitted that he wouldn't have been so "flirty/cheeky" with the audience had he known his dad was there.🤣🤣🤣🤣 (Remember those grins??😏😄😏) By the way, I, also, would love to know that even if on your own time you were able to watch the FULL video with subtitles. That's where, when spotting his dad in the audience, his kindness and professionalism still shone through, ALWAYS thanking the maestro before rushing down to give his dad this huge hug, lifting him up off the floor like he usually does...and then as they exited the studio asking his dad if he had sung well...and even quietly confessing that he was so homesick that he wanted to go home. It is not only extremely heartwarming but very telling of Dimash's personality as well.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Vitas excellent voice.... nothing more, on the other hand Dimash transmits sensitivity, he reaches every listener... and everyone cries or shudders with his voice.... and we don't understand the different languages he interprets but he is like a hummingbird flying over the spirit . He is unique

Great reaction, Carl. I love the longer version of this video, because it showed how his Dad surprised him and how he was asking his Dad, "Did I sing well?" twice. Seeking his Dad's approval and affirmation. It was so heartwarming and touching to see His Dad come to support him and the love they had for each other. He was only 22 years old, and firs time being away from home by himself. He was very homesick and missing his loving family. Remember, he grew up in a large 3 generational home. He went to China with just a translator, he didn't now Chinese, and very little English, so imagine how brave he had to be to manage being there. Seeing his Dad was a very welcome support and relief. I heard Vita's version and Vita's voice was brassy and ear piercing. Dimash sang it so much better than Vitas. Love and respect for Dimash. Dear from PA, USA.
Great reaction 🤩 I love nerds 😊I've been told that the producers of this competition picked this song for Dimash. They later had copyright issues with Vitas and his people, and Dimash stopped singing it for the same reason + Dimash is also a gentleman who doesn't want to harm anyone. Dimash sings this far better than Vitas in my opinion - he has more tone and body in his voice and is not as static ❤ Dimash is an independent singer, owned by no labels. His father is his production manager and DimasAli Creative Center is mainly runned by family and friends ❤ And yes, they are very professional 👏❤ Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰🤩
I agree that Dimash sings this much better than Vitas. I found Vitas a little lifeless. As far as copyright………. Vitas should be very happy, that his song was ELEVATED by Dimash. I guess some artists cannot handle someone of exceptional ability! AND Carl, the reason you can’t remember the song, is because Vitas, well……., his rendition lacked MEMORABILITY! 🤷🏻♀️
I think you watched the extended version. It's a shame that you didn't see the whole video. I know you want to analyze Dimash's vocals but sometimes it's nice to see what's going on behind the stage. Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is very famous and popular in China. The audience already knew what to expect, but were very surprised when Dimash raised the pitch three times. Vitas but only once. As far as I know didn't choose Dimash this song but the people from the The Singer show. An yes, you're right. The man who raises his fist in the air at the end is Dimash’s father. He came from Kazakhstan to support his son. However, Dimash knew nothing about it when he performed. I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 21 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional. By the way the audience is also the jury and the people backstage are the other competitors. During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰. Yes, it is a Vitas song. I believe that the show did not get permission in advance, so there were issues. Dimash no longer sings this song. I wish you had used the longer version. It showed his father surprising him. Dimash's family had grown concerned about his comments about how homesick he was. He was 22 year and had not really been away from home that much. He was used to being surrounded by family and friends. He had been in China for several weeks with only an interpreter. His dad took a leave of absence to come support him. Kanat would only leave if there was other family members or friends who could come. For several years after this, his family made sure to travel with Dimash. It was considered to be important for Dimash's emotional wellbeing.

Yes! For me, Vitas may be able to get up that high, but you can tell he is near or at his limit, somehow straining to the point of his tone becoming "scratchy" whereas Domash's tone is always beautifully full, rounded and clean. At least, that's the way I've always seen it.😊
Yes, Dimash chose all of his songs on the show. He actually went up 3 times at the end, blowing Vitas' version out of the water! I don't mean to be disrespectful to Vitas, but he actually was not happy about Dimash's version, which I cannot understand, as surely Dimash made it more popular! Yes, his dad was in the audience, but it was a surprise for Dimash & when he spotted his dad when he finished, it was a lovely moment. Thanks a lot 😊🙏💞
I don't know anything about the current vocal coaches. The interviews on this were some years ago. But Dimash has his own production company with his father. If you read in the description of his videos producer Kanat Aitbayev, that`s his father. His dad is his manager but apart from that he is 💯 independent artist. He had short term contracts with several producers in the past like the Chinese for Chinese album and Igor Krutoy for Russian album but they are more like business partner. He is currently only releasing singles under his own company.

Love when you nerd out, you give such great information when you do. Don’t know for fact but I heard the artist who wrote/sang this song originally had a cow about Dimash’s version. Heard he banned him from singing it publicly again. My information was another commenter back a couple of years ago!

Vitas have one modulation, Dimash have four, that's why after this preformers forbiden Dimash to sing this song, that's why exist only this verzion, and Dimash never sing it again 🙏
PLEASE react to Faouzia on The Singer 2024 She is the top vocalist right now She's the only one in the competition's entire history that has consistently stayed in the top three throughout the entire competition She has only gotten 3rd place once And she's gotten first place a total of 3 times (so far) I believe All the remaining times, she's been consistent at second place 10 rounds have finished so far (at the time of commenting) There are a total of 12 rounds, so two more left Those two are the final rounds, and she's one of the four competitors who've made it to the finals out of so many. I'm so excited for her, and i hope you wont miss out on the reaction. She gives a PHENOMENAL performance in each round btw!! (Fun fact: There are no judges, the audience is the jury)
Actually I come here for your nerding alone😁 Thank you! Vitas' Opera 2 is very well known in China. He often toured there. Dimash chose the song for the competition. Vitas' manager wasn't very happy with the choice, I mean with Dimash's doing such a jaw dropping job with it. Dimash won that round. As far as I know (not sure 100%), competing singers have the option to use once any song of choice on a competition. Hunan TV ask Dimash to use it twice - one second time in a New Year TV show, which was a part of the Singer extended project. Vitas' manager saw a chance to threaten the TV with a CR infringement and did so. Dimash and Hunan TV were banned from using it again.
Oddly, you have not reacted to this video since it has been a favorite of other reactors. Anyway, I know you have reacted to Dimash singing the "Unforgettable Day---Gakku" version because everyone flips over that D8 note. The way it was performed by Dimash on Singer 2017 is outstanding. he seems to have put more emotion into that one, and he first started the song in Mandarin and then switched to either Kazakh or Russian. Not only did he sing it so beautifully, he had morepower in his voice, and his stage presence was infectious; the orchestra and background singers took it to another level. That was an amazing orchestra that accompanied all the singers on that show. I think they added to the performances both on this song as well as "Adagio." I would love to hear your comments and see if you agree with me or not. Either way, it is so worth your time and analysis. Thank you for all of your reactions and comments on Dimash. Your use of words is so precise and enables me to get a better understanding of his voice. There are other videos of Dimash singing this song that have cc for English translation. Also, Dimash appears to be much more at ease and self-confident during this performance. It was his second song on the show and I think he was more relaxed knowing that after SOS, and realized how much love he received from not only the audience and judges but the millions of fans he attained overnight. Yet, at the end of this performance, he still asked his father if he did well...twice. so sweet. I think getting his father's approval meant more to him than the audience.

For sure it was Dimash that chose this song. He said in interviews that all the songs for "The Singer" was chosen and produced by him. In an another interview, he said too that he had not a big "repertoire" at that time, so Opera 2 was his choice because he sang it many times in Kazakhstan. You should hear him at age of 21 singing it in a funny way in a Kazakh TV show... (look for Dimash Opera 2 Vitas funny Tv Show in Harry Clifton's YT channel, there is Eng subtitles). Although people say it was a copyright problem, I think it was not only that. Vitas hated that Dimash could sing this song so much better in a country Vitas was already a very established singer. Some time after this performance, Vitas made a performance where he had put 2 chinese singers wearing Dimash's clothes to sing this song on the stage to mock Dimash. And this is even more disgusting because in every interview Dimash had only good words about Vitas...
Watch until the end please, never cut his videos because you'll miss important things. He didn't know his dad was in the audience, you must see his face when he noticed him. And after that they went together backstage and Dimash asked him "Did I sing well?" 😂 Try with a subtitled video.

Believe me: nothing could be less relevant than the lyrics of this song because it is just a fun show-off piece, both for Vitas and Dimash. Once again I would like to contest one of your claims, namely that Dimash sings the high notes in falsetto. However, I am aware that there appears to be quite some disagreement among vocal coaches about the concept of falsetto. It's like there are two different schools. For non-experts in singing these disagreements are confusing. At least it seems "falsetto" is used in a wide and a narrow sense. Please take a look at this assessment of an opera voice teacher: ruclips.net/video/6KrqPzoiLws/видео.html. She says that Dimash sings the high notes in full voice, not in falsetto. And I am inclined to agree with her, because I can't hear any airiness in the high notes as you say. They truly sound like an operatic male soprano to me. So far I haven't seen anyone who explained this contradictory use of the word "falsetto".

Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China.
The song is very famous and popular in China. The audience already knew what to expect, but were very surprised when Dimash raised the pitch three times. Vitas but only once. As far as I know didn't choose Dimash this song but the people from the The Singer show.
An yes, you're right. The man who raises his fist in the air at the end is Dimash’s father. He came from Kazakhstan to support his son. However, Dimash knew nothing about it when he performed.
I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 21 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional.
By the way the audience is also the jury and the people backstage are the other competitors.
During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰.

Yes, it is a Vitas song. I believe that the show did not get permission in advance, so there were issues. Dimash no longer sings this song. I wish you had used the longer version. It showed his father surprising him. Dimash's family had grown concerned about his comments about how homesick he was. He was 22 year and had not really been away from home that much. He was used to being surrounded by family and friends. He had been in China for several weeks with only an interpreter. His dad took a leave of absence to come support him. Kanat would only leave if there was other family members or friends who could come. For several years after this, his family made sure to travel with Dimash. It was considered to be important for Dimash's emotional wellbeing.
I really prefer Dimash singing this song to the original version by Vitas.Dimash did it more thrillingly with vocal ability,charm,emotion and body gesture.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Yes! For me, Vitas may be able to get up that high, but you can tell he is near or at his limit, somehow straining to the point of his tone becoming "scratchy" whereas Domash's tone is always beautifully full, rounded and clean. At least, that's the way I've always seen it.😊

Yes, Dimash chose all of his songs on the show. He actually went up 3 times at the end, blowing Vitas' version out of the water! I don't mean to be disrespectful to Vitas, but he actually was not happy about Dimash's version, which I cannot understand, as surely Dimash made it more popular!

I don't know anything about the current vocal coaches. The interviews on this were some years ago. But Dimash has his own production company with his father. If you read in the description of his videos producer Kanat Aitbayev, that`s his father. His dad is his manager but apart from that he is 💯 independent artist. He had short term contracts with several producers in the past like the Chinese for Chinese album and Igor Krutoy for Russian album but they are more like business partner. He is currently only releasing singles under his own company.

Actually I come here for your nerding alone😁 Thank you! Vitas' Opera 2 is very well known in China. He often toured there. Dimash chose the song for the competition. Vitas' manager wasn't very happy with the choice, I mean with Dimash's doing such a jaw dropping job with it. Dimash won that round. As far as I know (not sure 100%), competing singers have the option to use once any song of choice on a competition. Hunan TV ask Dimash to use it twice - one second time in a New Year TV show, which was a part of the Singer extended project. Vitas' manager saw a chance to threaten the TV with a CR infringement and did so. Dimash and Hunan TV were banned from using it again.
Vitas only did 2 key changes, Dimash did 3 key changes. Vitas never allowed Dimash to perform his song again. Dimash sang it so much better!
Oddly, you have not reacted to this video since it has been a favorite of other reactors. Anyway, I know you have reacted to Dimash singing the "Unforgettable Day---Gakku" version because everyone flips over that D8 note. The way it was performed by Dimash on Singer 2017 is outstanding. he seems to have put more emotion into that one, and he first started the song in Mandarin and then switched to either Kazakh or Russian. Not only did he sing it so beautifully, he had morepower in his voice, and his stage presence was infectious; the orchestra and background singers took it to another level. That was an amazing orchestra that accompanied all the singers on that show. I think they added to the performances both on this song as well as "Adagio." I would love to hear your comments and see if you agree with me or not. Either way, it is so worth your time and analysis. Thank you for all of your reactions and comments on Dimash. Your use of words is so precise and enables me to get a better understanding of his voice. There are other videos of Dimash singing this song that have cc for English translation. Also, Dimash appears to be much more at ease and self-confident during this performance. It was his second song on the show and I think he was more relaxed knowing that after SOS, and realized how much love he received from not only the audience and judges but the millions of fans he attained overnight. Yet, at the end of this performance, he still asked his father if he did well...twice. so sweet. I think getting his father's approval meant more to him than the audience.

For sure it was Dimash that chose this song. He said in interviews that all the songs for "The Singer" was chosen and produced by him.
In an another interview, he said too that he had not a big "repertoire" at that time, so Opera 2 was his choice because he sang it many times in Kazakhstan. You should hear him at age of 21 singing it in a funny way in a Kazakh TV show... (look for Dimash Opera 2 Vitas funny Tv Show in Harry Clifton's YT channel, there is Eng subtitles).
Although people say it was a copyright problem, I think it was not only that. Vitas hated that Dimash could sing this song so much better in a country Vitas was already a very established singer. Some time after this performance, Vitas made a performance where he had put 2 chinese singers wearing Dimash's clothes to sing this song on the stage to mock Dimash. And this is even more disgusting because in every interview Dimash had only good words about Vitas...

Believe me: nothing could be less relevant than the lyrics of this song because it is just a fun show-off piece, both for Vitas and Dimash.
Once again I would like to contest one of your claims, namely that Dimash sings the high notes in falsetto. However, I am aware that there appears to be quite some disagreement among vocal coaches about the concept of falsetto. It's like there are two different schools. For non-experts in singing these disagreements are confusing. At least it seems "falsetto" is used in a wide and a narrow sense. Please take a look at this assessment of an opera voice teacher: ruclips.net/video/6KrqPzoiLws/видео.html. She says that Dimash sings the high notes in full voice, not in falsetto. And I am inclined to agree with her, because I can't hear any airiness in the high notes as you say. They truly sound like an operatic male soprano to me. So far I haven't seen anyone who explained this contradictory use of the word "falsetto".
