It's all meticulous and purposeful. That aspect was one of the reasons I fell in love with the band. This song is the introduction to the album "Time", which was released in two parts: Time I (2012) and Time II (2024) and I can't recommend enough checking out all of its songs because it's just pure masterpiece after masterpiece. Time I: 1. When Time Fades Away (intro) 2. Sons Of Winter And Stars 3. Land Of Snow And Sorrow 4. Darkness And Frost & Time Time II: 1. Fields Of Snow (intro) 2. The Way Of The Fire (my all time favorite song) 3. One With The Shadows 4. Ominous Clouds & Storm 5. Silver Leaves Ever since Time II was released in August this year and the new mix and master of Time I (Time I 2.0), 99.9% of music I've listened has been just this. I'm super addicted and I never get bored of the songs. Wintersun is pretty big in Finland. They've reached #1 in album charts a few times, but of course they're not nearly as big as Nightwish. Wintersun doesn't appeal to mainstream as much as Nightwish partly because of Jari's harsh vocals. Many don't like that style and Jari himself is aware of it, but doesn't intend to change it. Also Wintersun generally are stellar in live performances. They're top notch musicians and work really hard.
There is a reason Nightwish asked Kai and Jukka to join the band. We know Tuomas from Nightwish is a composing genius. Jari is a great composer as well, they just have different musical styles. Time II is a great album and both Kai and Jukka played on that 2024 album apart from Nightwish.
