Honestly, as much as I love the games that fit the “newer” style of boomer shooters like Doom Eternal and Turbo Overkill, there’s something about how stripped back Wrath is that makes it feel kinda fresh; like it’s an underrated PS2 FPS game that while not trying to reinvent the wheel, is just GOOD at what it does
It's good to see a slightly more held back boomer shooter, they're almost all getting pretty insane and fast now (Ultrakill, Turbo Overkill, Sprawl and so many others) Don't get me wrong, I'd say that's overall the style I like more but it is getting a little samey, like how non Fromsoft souls-likes are now all more reliant on rhythm game type parrying than the more held back DeS and Dark Souls 1 style of game-play. My point is, it's all fun but variety is good and I don't want boomer shooters to all feel the same!
sorry for not shutting up, but please cover Zortch. it's a boomer shooter that really needs more coverage! it's easily one of the best retro games out there. Zortch actually manages feeling exactly like a remaster of an old classic no one remembers. it's so authentic and throws together so much of the greatest classics, it's insane. you will not be disappointed, I promise.
Of course the dragon compares everything to Spyro. smh Seriously though, I appreciate these less frenetic shooters. I love Turbo Overkill, but it's so chaotic I can't even keep track of what's happening sometimes.
@@KhiemNguyen-ly1wz Why should it? Just because this game did? It's not like they're working on the same time scale just because they're both indie games in the same genre
@@MintyLime703 Because video game developments should take an average of about 3-5 years. Anymore than that usually means there's problems, so ideally you'd want to get your games out in that time frame. Ultrakill is going on its 4th year since EA. So yeah. Ideally, it should be out by next year. Otherwise, something's probably wrong.
It's weird to think I ordered the Big Box Founders Edition all those years back in 2019, and we're FINALLY getting it. I'm just glad it's finally done. This could have been another abandoned early access game, which is what almost happened when the original dev team quit.
I love this game, so pure, so fluid and fast. Something to be said for simple geometry and textures, crank the fov to 110 and it’s pure boomer bliss. Thank you to the team that delivered, even if it took 5 years❤
One thought I got watching this is that while it is very much like Quake it seems to have more enemies with less health than Quake, I really like that sinse it feels more satisfying, to me at least, wwhen enemies go down quik to your attacks. Will check it out now that it is finally out from the early acces swamp.
If only Graven took notes from this. This is what happens when you make a game that's just fun to play without being too ambitious and cramp it with all kinds of gimmick mechanics that just ruins all of the fun factor.
I love this game but I hope they changed the save system. It was extremely strict and limited for levels that are so large. And too be honest kind of disrespectful for people’s time. Not everyone can spend two hours in a row trying to beat a couple of levels where the majority of that time is walking and walking to the place you died. Not so speak as well of how frustrating it is to spend a save point and finding a save shrine a minute after.
Good thing I waited until it came out of EA to experience the full game of what it has to offer. I wonder why it took so long to release. Was it the challenging level design creation? Because the assets looks pretty much the same as it did 5 years ago. Regardless, I really like Quake 1's gameplay. So this is up my alley.
@@KhiemNguyen-ly1wzthey kinda did judging from their dev updates back then (plus a bunch of their old team leaving IIRC). Quite a miracle that they overcame that, got to doing bi-weekly updates during Early Access, and now it's out and it looks rad.
Great review! I totally get what you mean about the level structure and the hub worlds. As much as I like games like Half-Life that keep moving forward, it's always great to have a suggestive "road map" to know how far you need to go, and what to expect. The first hub world and the exploration encouragement sold me on the game from the start
Wrath: aeon of ruin! It's like Immortals of Avium... But this time your view model actually moves! Like those are your own arms! It's amazing.. such a simple fix!
Ever since I played the early access version I've been in love with Wrath. The visuals are chunky, the controls are fast, the world is atmospheric and the guns feel strong and punchy.
It's not actually out yet, I played the EA a few years back and did not like it at the time. I should like it but it felt off. Will try it this weekend after it actually comes out
There's something to be said about a game that while having simple mechanics executes them with such polish and precision that it sticks with you. I've beaten Wrath twice and man is it a blast.
Really glad this game turned out great. I bought it when it went into early access and was originally going to launch in 2020, but when delay after delay happened I got worried because that’s usually the sign of troubled development and the final product might not turn out so good (look at Skull and Bones for a recent example of a game that was delayed for years and years only to be really mid upon release). That Spyro comparison is actually really fitting now that I think about it, but my “weird comparison” is I kinda view the game’s levels almost like pre-Breath of the Wild Zelda dungeons due to their generous length and large, intricate designs (and a random aside, I absolutely love BotW and Tears of the Kingdom, but the one thing that would have made them perfect is if they still had dungeons akin to older Zelda’s). But yeah with this and Dark Forces remastered out this week, I’m gonna have myself a nice weekend.
HUGE thanks to Fulqrum publishing for sponsoring this video! If you want to get this game for yourself, check the link here! bit.ly/WRATH_Jarek

I actually prefer the Prodeus and Quake type Boomer shooter style so loving this!
I think there's room for both, new school and old school
I still remember when I was a child and hearing about this game, glad I now can finally play it with my grand kids.

"Spryo with guns" is all I needed to hear- sounds fun 😅
The wait for the game added 5 years to my life.
Went by pretty quick, didn't it? didn't it...
sigh...

Took it goddamn long enough to come out.
Still not even out i just played it. Its still early access until tomorrow
Isn't Ratchet & Clank technically also Spyro with guns?
Yeah, i Said that

For me, the really fast shooters tire me out. I still haven't finished Doom Eternal because it burns me out towards the end.
Yo wait what the fuck
I thought for sure Wrath was a goner after Embracer gutted 3D Realms
It took a while, but Wrath still came out of early access sooner than Ultrakill.
Ultrakill entered EA a full year after Wrath did so that's not really saying much.
@@dannyboi5887In that case Ultrakill should be finished by next year. I hope my optimism about that isn't wrong

Amazing, also thx for the review
Glad it is out of early access. Seems lika a cool Quakelike.
Until tomorrow
Guh, looks REAL fucken good! Though, my games fund went into Blood West this month, I'll probably get this game next!
My biggest complain from older versions (difficulty) was solved.
Also glad that it left (near)vapourware stage...
Spyro with guns? Spyro in QuakeWorld. 'cuz, the Dark Places Quake engine.

Happy it came out good after all the wait!
I was esitant but then you described as Spyro with guns and now I have to try it, dammit.
The big reason it feels like Quake 1, is because it's on the same engine.
It's on the Darkplaces Engine...

Its not until the 27

Pressing tab and showing the stats of secrets and monsters have been a staple in boomer shooters for a while, not really anything to do with Spiro.
Opening up a classic book to show you monsters, secrets, and especially artifacts is 100% a spyro vibe.
Wow I'm really glad the devs made it finally and I'm buying it right away
The game is extremely awesome!

Got me wanting an Agent 9 FPS now, Jarek.
Awesome video
Can't wait to play it tomorrow
Just a correction:
The engine used is the Darkplaces Engine, not the original Quake Engine.
I said on original quake tech, not the original quake engine
the game looks amazing, great video
I prefer the fang spitters original alt fire
When does this launch on other systems???
This game is soooo amazing and it's running on ANDROID (SMARTPHONE!!)
boss is hot, buying it rn
Give me my damn console port ffs.
I mean, the game literally comes out tomorrow. They can't port what wasn't done yet.
if it ever do it needs gyro aim support
IF the game finds success, it will.
It uses the Quake engine, you could probably run it on a toaster. Really, even a $50 laptop from a pawn shop can do a surprising amount.
Not gonna lie, I never knew this game only fully released now XD
Some of these weapons remind me of Unreal Tournament weapons. Does it have any multiplayer ? I miss arena shooters.
Best way to play this is on Meta Quest in VR :)
What is Black Mesa Interloper? Are you making a vid on it?
I made a video on xen years ago
it's a level from the Half Life 1 remake Black Mesa
You're a furry now?
Now?
Will there be a console release?
