    Two anecdotes:
The mother of a school friend came into the son's room. He changed his trousers in front of me. Not his underpants, but his normal trousers. She was horrified. We laughed and said to her: We do sport together and see each other completely naked three times a week in the communal shower and changing (locker) room.
A member of the Bundestag (german parliament) and a journalist were guests at a charity football match. They met in the changing room to get changed for the game. Instead of fidgeting around in embarrassment, the politician said to the journalist "I guess we'll have to go through this now" and stripped naked to put on his sportswear.
By this I mean: it is the mendacious, mostly religiously induced shame that causes conservative people to behave puritanically in a group.

"Mettbrötchen" = Ground pork with onion rings and pepper on a breadroll is legit. We call it "Fireman's Jam / Feuerwehr Marmelade" where I am from. I have eaten it since a young age, love it, and have never heard of anyone having problems with it. It's also a regular staple on building sites. The being nude in the sauna has a very good reason. Sweat soaking into textiles does not allow the pores to open fully. But that's the intention of sauna. Get your skin used to rapid changes in temperature, opening and closing pores on demand. The next thing: when pores open wide, and sweat is released that takes out quite a lot of dirt captured in the pores. This is supposed to be trapped in your towel, not in worn clothing. Worn clothing keeps that gunk trapped close to your skin; no clothing allows it to run down into your towel.
That's why you always have TWO towels for the sauna. One for showering and drying off; the other to sit on and capture the sweat.
After taking a sauna trip, you cool off in fresh air, take COLD showers to both rinse off the gunk on your skin, as well as making your pores QUICKLY close again. After that take a dip in REALLY cold water. Now comes the relaxing part: grab your drying off towel or even a third towel, lie down on a beach rest, and relax. Give your body time to acclimate to normal temperatures again; allow it to recuperate because the sauna experience is quite taxing on your metabolism.
Only once you are used to this go into the hotter saunas; don't start off with the hottest just to show off how 'manly' you are. Get used to the less hot ones first; once you can comfortably remain in them for a ten minute stretch you might be ready to advance.
Number 5: true, because the legal age of consent for any kind of s*xual activity in Germany is 16 (unless a dependent is involved, in which it is a no-no). However, even 14 year old teens will not get into trouble IF it is within their age group. Again, definitely not where one of them is the dependent of the other (this would require some VERY strange legal circumstances, btw). It has to be mutually consenting without any form of coercion or pressure. Thus, public displays of affection aren't (legally) frowned upon, thus most people would consider it a lot more rude to interrupt and point out the morals of the situation when it isn't illegal.

Pork meat is usually not a health problem, since the meat is extremely well checked in Germany. Today, you might easier get a tapeworm from raw beef.

    • @RustyDust101
      @RustyDust101 3 месяца назад +11

The Mett/raw minced pork is INSANELY regulated and checked. We are talking multiple checks from the delivery of the pig to the butcher throughout the whole production process right to the point it is delivered. Mett HAS to be sold and consumed on the same day. That's the only thing you should be aware of should you ever intend on making your own Mettbrötchen here. Buy it fresh on the same day you are intending to eat it. Do NOT keep it to the next day. A crisp Brötchen/Semmel/Schrippe/Weck = (all equals) bread roll, good butter, a good layer of Mett, diced onions, salt, pepper. That's it. It's also called the Maurermarmelade/ bricklayer's jam as it was so ubiquitously eaten by craftsmen during their late breakfast break; especially on construction sites.

German/EU food regulations are strict enough to allow for this kind of food to be safe. don't ever try raw meat or raw milk etc in countries with weak or no food safety regulations. if you cannot trust the food producers and there is not enough government supervision then keep away from it.
US food safety regulations tend to be old and since the public prefers weak government supervision and food producers want to maximise profit over the wellbeing of their customers the US government opted for the safe version by banning all the usual suspects - there is no cheese made of raw milk in the US.

First thought: not ALL Germans do or like all mentioned. It's allowed but is not everyone's cup of tea.
Nude saunas is a very (northern) European thing. Also in NL. It's considered more hygienic. People are very conscious of entering a sauna clean, without clothing.
However, saunas with/for bathing suits also exist, on certain days/times for people who are not able to participate for eg. religious reasons. Never a mix though.
A respectful attitude is paramount and taking photo's where there is nudity is "not done".
The quality of meat and fish is highly regulated so the chance of getting sick is honestly minimal. It's more a matter of liking it or not. Raw meat and fish is an acquired taste. Herring in NL is actually pretty good although I'd never go out of my way to have it. Just not my thing.
Raw meat (tartare) is common in NL. Raw pork I've never seen here.🤔
Beer in the morning is not okay here in NL. You will see it in the afternoon though.
There are definitely differences between European countries, even close neighbours.
Making out in public in NL is more likely around festivals or late at night. Again something we normally don't see here in NL. It's considered common, not chic. You'll probably be told to "get a room". Really! 😅

The beer in the morning thing is actually not totally normal in Germany as well. On some occasions like father's day, where men (most of them are not fathers 😂) go on some sort of "hike" and basically have an all day party, or if you go to a "Frühschoppen" on sunday morning (not that common anymore) it is normal. If you are drinking beer with your friends in the morning, you are not totally drunk and you are not looking like homeless, people will assume you have a day off and a little all day party. But if you are drinking beer on your way to work or beer is a regular part of your breakfast it will be frowned upon. Construction workers used to drink beer throughout the day, but that is also not common and accepted anymore.

    Concering Rolling Tobacco:
It's not just about the price, for some it can simply be the taste.
The tobacco you prefer may not be available as cigarettes.
Some people prefer the taste of a self rolled (filter or without) and there's also the mini-event of rolling it yourself as opposed to simply taking a cigarette out of a box.
Kind of like drinking a beer out of a bottle or can as opposed to pouring it into a proper glass first.
Minor things maybe, but it's all down to individual preference.
Having a beer at 9 am?
If someone's on leave, holiday or it's party/festival time then sure, why not?
If they do it on a regular basis then they're either addicted and/or don't have or need a driving licence 😀

It is not weird to be asked to undress when you are the only one who is not naked.

Now you are around in Germany again, never eat raw pork (Mett, Gehacktes, Mettbrötchen) that you didn't buy fresh from a slaughterhouse! Raw pork must be chilled and is suitable for immediate consumption only.

Hello Joel. I did have raw sausage meat as a kid in UK, but back then you knew the butcher and trusted where meat came from. I could not imagine it today. I also would no longer want fish on the underdone side. I am not one for the idea of walking round with no clothes. You could get hypothermia in summer in my native Bradford. As for rolling cigarettes, it was not uncommon there, though I never smoked. However I was known to start drinking at lunch on days off when younger. Meeting pals for a pie and a pint for lunch in the local pub, home for tea, then back out later in the evening was normal, but not as intense as in Germany I reckon. However the servers in the supermarket in Texas could not believe how many beers we would stack in the van and Texans are supposed to like a beer.

Actually, the amount and time for beer differ regionally in Germany, in the north and west is an evening/after work/weekend-BBQ thing. And not every adult drinks beer. - My experience as student in Hessen and Yorkshire: There was no great difference, only the English had to start earlier because of last order... The English maybe frequented a little more, to my personal experience.

Being nude in saunas is pretty common in a lot of countries not only in Germany. America is the biggest porn producing country in the world yet they freak out seeing someone nude in a sauna or a woman topless at the beach. Raw meat is not only in Germany. They have in The Netherlands as well. Strangely enough it is called Filet Americain. It is a big hit at birtday parties and no you dont get sick of these kind of raw meats. Otherwise it would be illegal for supermarkets to sell it.

Fischbrötchen aren't made with raw fish! Either the fish is pickled (like the sour Bismarckherring) oder smoked or it's fermented (Matjes). It always seems really really odd to me that the same people who love raw fish (Sushi) are at the same time disgusted when it comes to raw pig meat (Mett). Both just have to be fresh and everything is allright.

Even Germans don't walk naked on the streets (I think). The sauna is a different thing. You sweat a lot there ... why would you wear anything. There are only 2 types of people (well, nowadays in the USA there are 1000s, but normally there are two) and nobody cares how anyone looks. That's the charm of a sauna to me. In the USA nudity means sex; in Europe it just means no cloths.

Al-tough us Dutchies and Germans share a lot in our cultures, we're absolutely not the same ! Making out in public; yes sure of course no problem! rolling our own cigarettes from tobacco (which we call Shag in The Netherlands), yes of course! And by the way; that pouch of Shag called Samsom tobacco is a Dutch make ! So Germans smoke a lot Dutch Shag, just like the Dutch do. And if you are really for it: Get a pouch of Zware Van Nelle Shag (Dutch as well) so Heavy Shag ! and let me know what your thoughts are. Nude in a Sauna, well yes of course. It is illegal to wear clothes in a Sauna since it is non hygienic . Drinking Beer, sure of course, but the Germans do this in overdrive in comparison with The Dutch. In General the Dutch do not drink beer in the morning I'd say. after luch though on a nice hot sunny day on a terrace....yeah the beer will flow on a gentle pase. Raw pork though...? I even did not know this exsited.... so no I don't think this is done here in The Netherlands as well, but then again, this is as far as I know... so who knows...

The raw pork isnt actually a thing.
Its only this and its called 'Mett'. There is special regulations to that so its always fresh, but has to also be eaten fresh. Like you buy it today you dont eat it tomorrow anymore.
Put it on bread, or a 'brötchen' with salt+pepper and white onions is a staple here.
But yea its not raw pork in general, only Mett. Otherwise we cook our meat xD

Akshually, the fish shown in the video is not raw. It is conserved in acid-y, vinegar-y stuff which 'cooks' the proteins. For raw fish, go for the Dutch 'haring' (herring). (Which is akshually slightly fermented. 😂)
Also. Germany is probably the LEAST likely place to get sick eating. Anything available is pretty dang hard regulated and controlled.

Hi there, greetings from Germany! I Like your chanel and your open mind!
Nudity, to be honest, thats biological normal. What is the difference between a naked chest and a naked butt??? It belongs to your body! To be sarcastic, God created humans, why do they have to hide themselves behind clothes? And when you see more naked skin it get's pretty normal and no one is so interested in seeing more.
The beer thing is based on middle ages bad water conditions where beer has been the most clean drink at all. If you learn to handle alcohol at younger age you experience your limits and learn to enjoy beer. Ok, you always have some dudes who want to shoot their lights out. But the great majority consumes not to much.
And the last thing is "making out" What is more romantic than giving your partner a kiss, when your feel for it. Imagine your have to hide before you can kiss the partner, so noone could see you. Honestly when you are overwhelmed by your feelings and tell your partner that you love him/her/whatever and just kiss! Who cares about other people? Enjoy this moment, cause it never comes back.
Dumb and low minded are those who laugh about foreign habits because they do not understand it. The problem is, when you are told you are the best and your country is the best, then you see other countries habits as wrong or backward (right word?). The same from here, how is it possible to deny science (Charles Darwin) as thinking individuums and teach history as written in the bible (which is - by the way - written by human beings)? Take this as an example. And how do we progress? Not by doing thing as they were done for a long time. No we progress by questioning current "laws". Is the earth really center of the universe? Surprise, surprise we are standard and insignificant (important only in our own bubble).
I hope you keep on being open minded, because you can learn so much even about yourself. And always question what you have been told, there is not only one (correct) opinion
