No doubt one of the best ever if not the best of them all just look at the weights he carried put 10st odd nearly 11 stone on any group 1 horses today most of them wouldn't t run a place
Think Keith Noud thought he was better than Phar Lap. No horse could have done what he did in the Ahern. 10 stone 5 ,23rd on the turn . Wins by a couple in track record..
Very strange production. Got to all that trouble and not one mention of him being trained in Sydney by Harry Plant, the jockey Athol George Mulley or the owner Azzlin the Dazzlin the nightclub owner? Missed half the story of the mighty horse. In fact he achieved very little when trained in Qld and it was only when he was transferred to Sydney that he became great.
An older friend of mine gave me a bunch of his old racing info including a paper a student wrote on Bernborough. He spoke about how popular he was back then and he also wrote on another horse (can’t remember the name I could get it) who raced against Bernborough before he moved to Sydney they raced I think 7 times the other horse beat Bernborough 4 times and I think 1 dead heat and he apparently used to come from behind him 😮
my great uncle Les Watterson rode Bernborough to his first six wins at Clifford Park and kept him in his stables
Beautiful horse

Kingston Town was the greatest. Having said that Bernborough was good too
Bernborough certainly had a great action, the hallmark of a champion.
What a stride. Beautiful
One of the very best .
Right amongst the very best there's ever been
Had a photo of this horse as a primary school kid , and cut out wooden 3 ply copies, painted up and sold to local horse trainers for stable doors !
I guess this horse is forgotten when we talk about great horses in Australia.
Bloody champion.
My grandfather bred Bernborough.
Superstar
Champion
I was about 7yrs old when I heard adults talking about Bernborough...
Good Heart , Great Step, Likes to Gallop

There is probably enough for a 90min movie just with Bernie and his time with Azzlin, Plant and Mulley.
