You can transfer with pencil - and not paint the cup if you want to drink out of it. Use a sharpie then put it in the oven on like 250 for an hour and the pen will bake onto the cup. You have to hand wash it, but my dishwasher has been dead for about 2 years anyway. Lol

Love this! If you want to use the mugs (and wash them) use oil based Sharpie paint pens, bake it for 30 minutes and it will adheare the paint to the mug.
I was at Marshall’s and saw a Rae Dunn cake platter that said “cheat day” and adorable tiered trays. I placed them in my cart and pushed them around for 15 min and it back. Now I will just make them!!
Love them! I made an oil bottle from dollar tree using this technique and I made a 3 tier tray similar to yours and I added some marks around to distress a little more and got some coffee mugs at the DT that look similar to display on it. (Latte/cappuccino/and another one with a quote about coffee)

You could use paint markers then bake it. That makes it water proof but not necessarily dishwasher proof idk.

Use DecoColor paint pens.
