It is the Qing dynasty qianlong era , most characters have their historic figures.
It is indeed; it's based on the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (r. 1735-1796CE) and the lives of his three Empresses, Xiaoxianchun (the Empress here), Nara (currently Consort Xian) and Xiaoyichun (to be revealed...).

During this dynasty the binding of the feet was already prohibited. The shoes for binded feet are called lotus shoes. That’s why in episode one, the young girl who had lotus design on the sole of her shoes was punished.
@@hgoldy Yeah I know it was outlawed, but see I thought she got punished explicitly because, unlike others who had binded feet that the empower mentioned, she was essentially showing off and rubbing it in, and the Emporer found it insulting. But I'm a subs reader, I may be misunderstanding the scene.
@@calmcalmfruit From my understanding of the first episode, the girl wearing the shoes, along with her friends, didn’t know anything about the lotus shoes other than just a decoration on the sole. Yingluo knew about lotus shoes based on her reply to the girl who was asking why Yingluo was helping the shoe wearer win the selection.
@@hgoldy Ohhh I see, I like your interpretation too, if this means she had normal feet as well but was simply ignorant? The Emperor's early characterization would be seen as more petty if he had her dragged if she just wore lotus shoes (plus the powder) without necessarily having bound feet (thus not breaking the law) I thought she had done both.
