Now you know why he's thought of as the greatest guitarist of all time. All Along the Watchtower is a stunning cover of a Bob Dylan song. In fact, it's reported that when Dylan heard it, his words to Jimi were 'it's yours now' realising his version would be eclipsed.

Jimi Hendrix is one of the most influential and important figures in the rock era. He is generally considered the greatest guitarist of all-time.
    His greatest songs include:
"Voodoo Chile", "Foxy Lady", "The Wind Cries Mary", "Fire", "Purple Haze", "Crosstown Traffic", "Castles Made Of Sand", "Manic Depression",an electrifying version of "The Star Spangled Banner", which he performed at The Woodstock Festival, and an incredible remake of Bib Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower ".

The man touched the guitar the way he played music - awesomely. Hendrix is considered by most in the business as the best electric guitarist, ever. When you have a chance please check out his performance on Woodstock, the movie It is considered one of the best of the show. And it was performed to a smaller audience as most left the venue before Jimi came on. They wished they stayed. There also is a longer version of the show.

Yes, Mr Hendrix is something of a surprise. He didn't think he was much of a singer and only an indifferent guitarist.
I think this was his first major chart single. He was really a cut above everybody else at the time.
Love your reaction to him. His artistry, think Pablo Picasso or Svador Dali, gets even better from here.

Love your reaction because that is exactly how the audience at Monterey was when Hendrix made his Triumphant return to the U.S. after conquering the U.K. . Hardly anyone had seen Hendrix perform in a live setting so your reaction is so appropriate ! Hendrix Over The Top Set Ending Performance of "Wild Thing" is a must see now . And Remember just as the audience was , you've never seen anything like what Hendrix does as the show stopper . And You Had To Feel Bad for The Who , who had to go on after Hendrix ! "We Have To Follow THAT ?!?!? " was Pete Townsends lament .

This is why Hendrix is the "God of Guitar." There are many HUGELY talented guitarists before and since. But Hendrix... he's the summit that all who climb the mountain seek to reach and never will. Underscored by the fact that he honed his skills playing a cheap, backwards guitar in church for the choir. And is a Veteran of the 101st Airborne. "Hooah", Jimmy. From a fellow Veteran.

  • @MrMoggyman
    @MrMoggyman 5 месяцев назад +1

Sarah, this is not 'a guitarist', this is Jimi Hendrix. There are 'guitarists' and then ten blocks up the road musically was Jimi Hendrix. To understand Jimi, you have to understand this: Jimi and his guitar are one. He had practiced guitar so much that playing the guitar was not even an issue. The sound came right out of Jimi and across the strings to you. A shout out too to Mitch Mitchell (drums) and Noel Redding (bass). Superlative musical artists in their own right, they did a tremendous job supporting Jimi. You are amazed....playing with his teeth? Yes! Jimi could play between his legs, behind his back, over his head, and with his teeth. GENIUS! This not any normal guitarist.....this is Jimi Hendrix. You are experiencing the man. He was phenomenal. The first man to make a guitar speak. Jimi could do that.
Next song? Definitely Jimi Hendrix, Johnny B Goode, Berkeley. Prepare to be totally astonished at what this man can do with a guitar.

My first rock concert, age 13, in 1968 Sarah...
It literally changed my life trajectory, shattering my racist upbringing and hugely expanding my consciousness!
Within the yr I was joining civil rights and antiwar protests, as well as becoming a vegetarian and experimenting with mind altering drugs.
HeyJoe is a mere cover song, with many more powerful Jimi songs in diverse genres, but the Hendrix estate is REALLY tough on copy-write strikes, so be careful!!!

Yep. Jimi played with his teeth, he could play behind his back. He could play laying down. He got sick of the industry. They claim he died of an OD but no one saw him or his body leave the hotel. He wrote on one of his album covers he wanted to dissapear and go somewhere no one knew him so he could live in peace. I don't think him or Janis died. I think they just walked away.

1:37 Although it may seem like it, at that moment, Jimmy is not making any obscene gesture. In fact, he is indicating to a sector of the crowd that the solo that comes next is going to be executed with his tongue. It was something that he had done on previous occasions and that his fans demanded it from him...
Ohhh...I´m missing... That gum he's apparently chewing is most likely a slip of LSD.
