I moved to Utah and then Alabama from the Río Grande Valley. We grew up listening to my sisters talking about Rubén Vela at el Baile Grande. I was just a little kid…. Later I heard Little Joe when I heard about the moratorium against the Vietnam war. Nothing reminded me more about my people like his music. Though I lived away from my roots, there was nothing like Las Nubes to remind you of home!! Many persons request it as their anthem at their funeral.
Viva siempre Little Joe y La Familia and all the musicians on this wonderful tribute. Radio DJ El Armadillo from Walla Walla Washington. Grew up with this kind of music in the fields too.
I have a unique perspective having lived in Delano,Ca. in the 1960's and to have seen Cesar Chavez's progress! An onda that is still prevalent today! I lived about 2 blocks from him and my best friend Salvador Hernandez's parents were close friends with him! In later year's to go on and play trumpet with "Little Joe Y La Familia" has been a great honor! I am blessed!
This is a great tribute to one of my dear and close personal friends. Little Joe is truly a unique and a very talented person and I’m happy to call him my friend.
Just now watched this wonderful tribute to Little Joe. Met him last night at the Fiesta del Rancho in Concepcion (I'm from Benavides) and posted some photos on Facebook. I found your video which I reposted for all my friends that might not have been familiar with his music. Just wanted to tell you that I think you did a wonderful job on the tribute and how much I like it!
I may be Naive, but what is a Chicano ? Proud to be Tejano I am brown , but some Hispanics that I have know along the way are white and all like Tejano music. well my family had little or no education, but now we have college graduates, working hard to live the American dream. Never let my self be victimized or let that get me down.
