Deffo the blue over the black. Love self-closing, dad's Lexus LS had soft closers, used to open n shut just to watch 😁. Nick please don't kerb those wheels, you'll need a 2nd mortgage to replace 😱.
Stunning looking car especially with those superb wheels. Only missed one thing nick, you did not show us the engine. New house, new car, only need a new boat now
Well deserved Nick, I’ve been a subscriber to both channels for some time now and it’s great that you personally get something really nice to enjoy rather than showing us someone else’s pride and joy
I've always liked Mercedes. My Grandfather had an old S class, from the early '90s, it was really nice and I always enjoyed going for rides in it with him when I was a boy. I can see myself retiring in a Mercedes some day...
Wow, lucky or fortunate doesn't come into context! Hard work pays off, congrats to you sir. Kind regards, Marcus, take care and thank you for all you do for us. x
Lovely car Nick. I had an SL350 in 2004 and it needed that suspension you have. Interestingly the first car from Mercedes was an import only S55 back in 99 that brought those soft close doors you love, and me too, I won’t have a daily driver now without them! Enjoy, great channels and maybe see you next wee at the boat show if you’re around as we are down for 4 days to see a lot of boats, and hopefully Barcelona to see the new absolute 48 Coupe. Cheers Paul
Good luck with your new car Nick, and I heard the excitement in your voice :) :) :) I saw Marianne in the background, and I assume that she will drive the “older” Mercedes, you owe her that Nick,in my humble opinion,I love the colour, and the music system means that you can play lots of nice music,if you get tired of listening to the lovely noice from the powerful engine, while you and Marianne drive in to the sunset, awesome Nick :) :) :) all the best to you and your co driver.
Thank you Nick. I'm considering a replacement for my 06 S500 (only 75k miles). I can't find standard wheelbase, hence I'm drawn to SL and you've convinced me the SL400 is the one to consider and I love the Brilliant Blue. Helpful, informative and very pleasantly delivered. You're enthusiasm about the car is evident. Enjoy.
Gorgeous… I have a BMW 2020 M4. 2020 is the last year that they will make a hardtop convertible.. going to all soft top. The engineering on these convertible hardtops are amazing. But I am a bit jealous as I notice your convertible has a glass pane in it so even when the tops up you have natural light coming in with your drive! Excellent choice of a car… well deserved! Enjoy and stay safe!!
Watching the video late because subscribed to your channels recently but had and still having a really nice time. Congratulations, Nick! Truly happy for you, God bless you!
Wow, stunning colour Nick, I love your reviews, so passionate and knowledgeable about everything you review. You really should be on tv. So much better than many on tv at the moment. Great video
Nice to see and hear your cheerful, positive, enthusiastic review! Your enjoyment of the car really comes through, and I hope that the car treats you well for a long time!

@@MOTAHOLIC Yes like a rocket. i caught a train from Southampton to Wilding motors in Paignton to collect it. What a lovely scenic train ride thst is along the coast. When I drove my SL home, it didn't make me smile. At times i was laughing in amazement at the sheer torque. It's at the limit of how much power you can put down through two wheels. I can't imagine what the 63 is like. I sold my Z3M roadster to fund the purchase. Gosh the difference. A mere 1800 RPM in the SL gives twice the max torque of the Z3m ! My SL's not the AMG SL63 admittedly. But not much less power or performance. It's more than enough. In fact I'm in awe of it. The fact it takes an extra 200 or 300 milliseconds to reach the legal speed limit compared to the AMG is immaterial. 0 - 60 in 4.5 is fine with me. I'm loving it to bits. I considered buying an SLK55. But they're almost as expensive. A great little V8 roadster, but less car for the money. SLK55 £55k new. SL500 £90k new spec'd like mine, but only £3 or £4k more second hand for the SL. With the SLK55 i test drove the engine felt special. Whereas with my SL500 the whole car feels special. And it's an almost all aluminium engineering masterpiece.
I had an SLK (not the AMG) and it's a great car. But the differfence between SLK and SL is the difference between Business Class (great!) and First Class (awesome!).
Nothing like being at the helm of your favourite motor. To this day I miss my Alfa Romeo Spider long nose, the one from the 60/70's. I'd brought it all the way here from Pisa in Italy. So much more fun driving through Europe and UK back then. Great car. Enjoy Nick.
I loved the Black SL. But as Blue is my fav colour. You definitely hit the jackpot Nick. I pm'd you, about my health and recent car journey. So hopefully you could have a read. Of course on if you have time. I appreciate you busy. Many thanks.
The black trim gets stained from washing detergent drying out on them while being washed. No way to polish it out. I would suggest getting a clear wrap film put on them. I used to work for MB.
First channel view. i like the way you deliver what you want to say easily, and drive considerately. I "unpacked" one of those in it's original guise in 2002. (SL500 and I know they've moved on considerably). It was a personal import for my German Jewish financier I chauffeured for (is that Queen's English), from a Hamburg dealer I think - to UK spec. He "sold" his Dallas era SL600 to an art dealer he bought a lot from, and that was a lovely car to cruise to the country in. The amount of made to measure large uh corrugated? cardboard pieces and plastic film covering every interior surface was impressive; after I collected this SL500 from Harwich and took it to Chelsea. The wheels were an option not seen on the AMG version of the time but seen since, but you could reshape the surface area like butter just by touching them when new. The Navy? blue paintwork wasn't great in places and easily scuffable, and the door mirrors were not folding although this would have been standard on a UK mode. After a few weeks, the plastic pull handle to close over the inner boot cover beneath the roof came off in my hand, (he mostly drove it exclusively, while I drove his S-Class) as it was only attached to carpet material without support (warranty fix). It still was a lovely car especially when pushed (there were roads and empty roundabouts to slip roads I knew late at night - I wasn't a hooligan) , though zero sensation of wind in your hair or being able to look up at the sky with the roof down. I do fancy one now, a late one just like this SL400 Edition (lovely, nicer engine and spec) - but for the longest time I would never go any distance in a car I couldn't lay back for 20 minutes and have a sleep in.
Beautiful car Nick. With that mileage, it's basically new, just warmed up and tested. Get what you mean about the Audi, it's nice, unfaultable, but not really inspiring - and for a lot of money you want to love it. Theres only 2 reasons to move from this - a) if the push for electric cars means the costs become too high, or b) you really want a bit more of the tech we are seeing on brand new cars (like the Merc GLB you reviewed), albeit you already have the dynamic cruise control (mana from heaven for motorway drivers) Love the colour too - almost an Azzuri / Italia blue.
Congrats! So beautiful and that blue is stunning. Yes if you don’t stop and turn around to look at it every single time, it isn’t the one for you. Always how I have felt about my vehicles.
Beautiful SL in this color with these rims… i love mine… its older (2009) but it had the amg V8 of 6.2L… for me the pleasure is really to listen to the engine noise in open air.
Congratulations on your new car! I must say that although I'm not a hard core 'car person', I was compelled to watch this video as I KNEW I would enjoy your enthusiastic review of YOUR exceptional vehicle a great deal. And you didn't disappoint!!! It's an extraordinary car and I'm very happy for you. I wish you many years of pleasurable driving.
Great Vlog👍and really nice car! Absolutely beautiful color and the wheels are a great touch. I like how every 3rd spoke doesn't connect to the center of the hub. I realize that the self closing doors are necessary to allow the window seals to move out of the way and close back up when the doors open and shut, but I hope they have some sort of sensor to know if something is caught in the door opening to stop it from trying to continue closing and breaking a gear ⚙ or damaging the bodywork! I personally would have chosen the other car just to have the extra room for passengers and items I may carry, but would have driven away wishing it was that blue color 💙 instead of black!
Hadn't seen this one. Congratulations on your new car! Have to say that I'm a huge fan of Lotus cars, but the Benz is a very beautiful car as well. Hope you enjoy the car immensely! Be well.
That trim on a Mercedes is a common problem... I think it's caused by using TFR (traffic film remover) because it's an anodised finish... So I'd highly recommend not using TFR on it... It's a very nice car that.. 👍
We use TFR on the trucks at work and it’s not good for the anodised finish on the wheels and fuel tanks, makes them dull and pitted over time. I treat mine to a blob of turtle wax 👍🏼😀
Good for you Nick, enjoy! That's a good find. No point in buying new....its a mugs game. I understand the reticence over the A8....you are a sports cruiser man, not a flybridge cabin cruiser type....is that a fair analogy? The AMG V8's sound superb, but the running costs are high for AMG parts (brakes etc.) I have run Mercedes-Benz now for 30 years (previously BMW's but don't like the styling or image of BMW's now). Nothing covers long journeys like a Mercedes-Benz, and as you say speed potential completely wasted these days. Hope you have a garage to put it in Nick, after it has been so well loved.
How is the Active Body Control (ABC) Suspension working, I heard after time rather than miles they fail with the air ride bags leaking air and become a Nightmare and $$$ Expensive to repair?
Well done, Nick! Love the wheels and the color is my favorite. I’m always tempted to purchase a Mercedes since my wife works for Daimler AG and she can get a great discount.
Nick, I would LOVE to know what your direction is for a possible new boat. Honestly, I would save up the coming years, and wait till a nice Cranchi T36 comes up, they have the lowest running cost, best interior IMO. The ONLY downside is that they do not offer a sportbridge version, I wish they did, I would buy one as soon as I could afford it!
Congratulations Nick! I've just bought a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC43 AMG (my first AMG) and it is absolutely wicked. I love the seatbelt "hug" though my wife always feels strangled 😆 I considered the 63 S with the big V8, but I completely agree with you - why would you need more power for daily driving? Mine has the 385hp 3.0L biturbo V6 with the AMG performance exhaust and it's just a beast. Mercs really bring out the kid in you, eh? Enjoy, and thanks for sharing!
@@MOTAHOLIC I waited painfully for it to be built and shipped to Canada, but it was well worth the wait indeed. I do miss a convertible, though...might have to correct that in the next year or two myself!
Hi Nick and Marianne. Wow what a treat. Another upgrade. Im surprised you didnt buy a ferrari or Bentley GT. Next treat upgrade to SB3. I can hear the excitement about your beautiful new toy. Great video thanks 😊
Ahh Nick driving round my area. Past the Kingskerswell scout hut and other village places. You could have dropped in for coffee. Love the car and colour. You look very happy. 👍
Lovely Nick, love a Mercedes. I have an e class convertible but then I have kids so need the back seats. But one thing I did invest in was a SmartTop (little electrical box of trickery) which allows you to control the roof from the key while approaching the car and turns the button inside the car into a ‘one touch’ option. I hate having to hold the button while driving! It does a few other things as well but those were the main selling points for me. Simple and easy to fit and remove as well.
@@MOTAHOLIC You don't have to modify it. The unit comes with a kind of fitting that clamps over the existing wires and cuts into, but not through them. When you want to remove it you just unclamp these fixings. Just leaves a small slit in the existing wires which can be easily covered with a small amount of insulation tape if need be. I've had the units on a Volvo, BMW and now my MB with no issues. It also allows you to change the direction of the roof switch; it always bugged me that you had to push down to put the roof up; mine now puts the roof down when pushing down and up when pulling up.....it's the small things! :)
@@matthewwallis1841 Ah, now see, the switch is the right way around for me because I think of the switch as the roof. I lift up up when I want to lift the roof up off the windscreen header rail and I push the switch down when I want to push the roof back onto the header rail. 😃
WOW! What a beauty! Love the blue w/black interior. I hope you keep it 20 years! But, my heart broke when you said it will not be garaged. Hope you at least get a seal-skin for it!
Beautiful car no doubt, congratulations Nick, but I have to mention two quick corrections: this 3.0 v6 twin turbo produce only 329 hp @ 5250 rpm not 369. plus it come with a 7 speed transmission not 9. still a great car and great video from a great RUclipsr.
It's definitely a beautiful bit of kit, lovely. Enjoy your driving. For me it's Land Rover all the way... command driving position, 4wd, all season bullet proof for the country side of Somerset. Great video, thank you, take care. 👍👍👍🛻🚕🚗🚙🏎🏍⚓☠🏴☠️😎
That's a lovely car. I wonder if you can help me with my dilemma. I have a 350 SLK, and I've owned SLK's since 1998, as I find them perfect for what I want. But as they're sadly no longer made I've been really struggling to find a replacement. I quite like the SL, but I've always shied away from them as being too big, so as you've owned an SLK how do the two compare? Does the SL feel a lot bigger than the SLK? Thanks for any response.
In a word, yes. In particular, it feels a lot wider (I've not checked the figures, it would be interesting to do so). Also the bonnet feels longer (which makes sense as there was a V12 engine option!), thank goodness for front parking sensors. Of course, that pays dividends in terms of interior space. It feels far more spacious, you're less 'elbow to elbow' with your passenger, and whilst there was enough room for me (6ft 1in) in the SLK, there was only just enough room, in the SL it feels like there is room to spare. Having said all that, it doesn't feel unwieldy big. It is less sporty perhaps, but I think that suits the 'comfortable GT' nature of the car. For me it's a good upgrade, but if you like the compact sportiness of the SLK then maybe you'd disagree. Best bet is to drive one and see for yourself. I'm about 2 years in with this SL now (and it's my second), even if they still made it, I think I'd find the SLK a step too far down (that's not to knock them though, I loved my SLK!). Hope that helps. 🙂
These are invariably owner-operated, so there’s no need for a crew cabin.
Brilliant!
Love this comment. Lmao
Awesome, Nick! Its great to see a RUclipsr I actually like and follow (and who seems like a genuinely nice guy) doing well for himself.

Good choice! I think that is the same engine in a slightly higher state of tune.
@@MOTAHOLIC I waited painfully for it to be built and shipped to Canada, but it was well worth the wait indeed. I do miss a convertible, though...might have to correct that in the next year or two myself!
HOW DID I MISS THIS?! Congratulations!
Hi Nick and Marianne. Wow what a treat. Another upgrade. Im surprised you didnt buy a ferrari or Bentley GT. Next treat upgrade to SB3. I can hear the excitement about your beautiful new toy. Great video thanks 😊
Beautiful car Nick, enjoy!!
Ahh Nick driving round my area. Past the Kingskerswell scout hut and other village places. You could have dropped in for coffee. Love the car and colour. You look very happy. 👍
Yep, went past my old house and I sold several of the cars he passed in the village. I always find it fascinating seeing the place you live in videos.
Well done Nick - a lovely car. A much easier colour to keep clean as well! atb snack.
Very impressed Nick,love the car.
Love your new car.
Great presentation of how lovely it is.
Have an E class convertible but envy your choice.
PS
You should be on mainstream TV
Well done Nick, the hard work has finally paid off, absolutely beautiful car 😎
Nick, this car is GORGEOUS!!! That color is SO perfect. So are those wheels!! 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Thanks so much!
Very nice car... Understated coolness... And discreet
Nice looking car. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Absolutely fantastic car you are a lucky boy 👍🏼 I hope you enjoy it and all it’s luxury extras 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That is properly nice! Stunning colour and wheels, congratulations!
Thank you very much!
@@MOTAHOLIC both my wife and myself committed how good the wheels look!
Due to it’s exceptionally designed compact size, I assume there’s no need for IPS Pod drive when docking.
I've seen those, but always a bit reluctant to modify the 'stock' wiring
Both were upgraded with the 2015 facelift (although I was slightly out, it's 367hp)
Smashing car Nick, and a nice review.
Glad you enjoyed it
It's definitely a beautiful bit of kit, lovely.
I hope that you have some time to talk Marianne when you get home Nick, and not only talk about your new (lovely car) :) :) :)
Hey Nick the blue is a much better choice and those 19" rims are the mutts nuts have a great Sunday my friend
Stunning. Love the wheels too.
Did I miss the cheeky wave in the mirror 😁 great video btw
Beautiful car congratulations Nick!
Stunning car Nick! Congrats. It’s a fantastic car.
I saw you in this last week, you were driving through Paignton last Sunday.
That is a lovely spec makes it a very good looking thing
Now in a few years you can get smugglers 3, and have a matching car with it
