Thanks for having me on the show! FreeCodeCamp is such a valuable nonprofit for aspiring developers. And Luke does such a great job at moderating these interviews.

For beginners out there, the tech field is huge. It's not all about coding and working with computers. So explore your options and see what you like. Are you interested in designing? HTML and CSS may be enough. Are you interested in coding specific functionalities on a website? Maybe you should try JavaScript. There is databases (SQL), DevOps, IT, etc. In short, explore all the options out there and see which one suites you better. Tech is definitely for everyone...because it's so huge that there is an area for everyone's interests.

Very much this! I wish there was more videos discussing this fact and all the options. Maybe there are but I don't know the right keywords to use to find them. I am already a web developer but want to promote web development or any other form of computing to the masses. Just don't know how to go about it yet.

@@claudettebentley So what specifically are you in need of? What to learn or Where to learn..? I may be able to suggest a few places once I know exactly what problem you're trying to solve.

I think that it's a good idea to start a career in web development on the front end even if you have little aptitude or interest in visual design. This is for 2 reasons: 1) Front-end development is a good first step into web development; 2) Often the design can be done by a designer (or helped by a front-end library like Bootstrap) and the front-end developer's job is to "wire up" or construct the visual layout in a more technical way.

Can't say I agree with you at 10:00. Many times, trying to make a hobby into a profession can suck out the fun from the hobby.

Thanks, Joshua, for the comment and for watching the video. And I completely agree. Hobbies aren't always meant to be careers. As you said, something that's fun can become drudgery when it becomes a job.
To clarify, I wasn't advising people to turn their hobbies into a profession, just that they enjoy enough parts of their job to keep them from hating it.
Later on in the interview, I mentioned that I enjoy painting, but that's not something I'm skilled enough or interested in doing professionally. And If I did paint professionally, you're right, I could see myself quickly losing interest in the hobby.
What I do think is important is that there are enough aspects of a person's work that they have interests in, care about, or enjoy doing. Hopefully, we can agree that enjoying portions of one's profession is better than hating all of it.
Thanks again for the comment, Joshua, and for watching the video.
