Really want to get one of these, they are releasing the SA-76ADG. For the same price you get Revision A, D and G in the same 2U compressor! That sounds like an amazing deal
Rev A is the one using more Fet's then the D revision. Unlike the D revision the A revision uses a fet in the preamp and a fet in the line amp. The revision D uses 2 bipolar transistors at those spots. Also both use Fet's as the gain reducing element.
I can't seem to find the Stam Audio SA-76 that looks like this one at the price you say. The Stam Audio website has different more expensive 1176's. Where can I find this?
Sounds nice to me , so many companies are building new compressors using the vintage style Urei 1176 . Its way better than software and myself having all the analog compressors and software in our studio from vintage to new . I think this unit would be great for a home studio and probably would get 2 if you don't own any analog units. Plus you can't do a in depth review in 7 minutes . If you have the $$$$ buy any of the High end Brands or Vintage . But at under at around 690 or less you will make great records with this unit for years !
Would you please confirm what type of mic and preamp other processing that was done on that purple oh my gosh that was one of the best vocals I've ever heard in my life it was pristine
It would be really cool to hear the Uad 1176 vs Stam audio. or maby waves cla 1176 blue stripe vs Stam. I`ve been having my eyes on the Stam audio 1176 for some time. Is that something you are willing to try? Keep up the great work!
Really wanted this particular model but I think they've discontinued it. I'm not sure because the website is a bit sluggish plus I've been scared off by the countless bad reviews of people who have ordered units only to wait months to either receive contact from stam or a refund
I would agree with a previous comment that the attack/release characteristics seemed to not be as responsive as I would expect. You were tweaking them from one extreme to the other and the relationship didn't seem wildly different.
I have a challenge! Do you think you could do video in which you build an analog processing rack for under 1000€? It would be great to have advice on how to start building a studio that works at least partially with analog equipment.
Hey, can you possibly do a demo of the SA-76 on a few sources, maybe Vox, drum, and bass, but really push it hard and demo the all buttons in mode aswell? I was listening to a podcast where buddy was saying that he really loves to push the 1176 really hard sometimes but the problem he said he finds with some clones and or re-issues is that they go into distortion too easily, so Id love to see how the Stam handles really heavy compression and hear some of the different ratio setting combinations and all buttons mode! Maybe even a few A/B comparison's with just running audio through the unit circuitry without compression would be cool! Cheers !
I wanted to come back here and tell you that I attended an event last night with Stam Audio. It was a lot of fun. Joshua and some of his people were there. It was a little studio in Indianapolis, pretty small compared to some here, but they have great gear, and already some Stam in the racks. Joshua ans his guys were demoing the mics, which sounded great. The U67 sounded beautiful, and the U47 tube was really warm with good character. He also did the Pulteq clone, which was cool, as it had a boot/cut for the mids. Pretty sweet. The new 1176 is the SA-76ADG, which can switch between those revisions. (I want one!!!) He also had the shell only (no guts) of the Fairchild clone, the StamChild. It will have a few extra features too. They have some other cool stuff in the works. And the SSL bus compressor is now out in a MK11. What is coming out in the near future sounds pretty awesome. Keep an eye on them. I think they are just about right for many smaller studios. And they are currently selling extremely well. It was nice to hang out with Joshua and get to ask him lots of questions. An evening well spent. Yep, I think I really like these guys! I just wanted to share that. Love your videos and look forward to watching more!
Hwy are you leaving the Release on the lowest setting the whole time? you also had it on fastest Attack most times.. you realize Attack and Release are backwards? 7 is fastest..
I used to say that a little over a decade ago. Not anymore, its insane how much I would prefer a software emu of a good piece of hardware over an otherwise mediocre piece of gear. Software has gone soooo far since back then. Not to say I would prefer a Software emu of a Urei 1176 over a real one... Definitely would use the hardware if viable but regardless I don’t have many bad things to say about software nowadays. At this point I associate much of the “Hardware vs Software” debate as elitism. Not all of it, but much of it.
anybody could say something about the KT76 in comparison of the SA76? if somebody of the engineers at Stam or Klark Teknik will read this: why the hell do you stick to the originals... we are a plugin generation with the comfort of dry/wet and a int.sidechain... feeling like a littlebit limited with a new hardware from 1976... the only reason in my opinion is to make cash on next revisions... its nothing bad with it... i just dont wanna buy now to see that there is a new revision coming out... No there is nothing wrong with this either... im getting used to it. but please do a second revision a „modern 1176 revision G76“ thank you for listening... and thank you for your sweet little video! Kush on Fellow!
Nice one!! Also it is affordable! My powercore6000 has a Limiting Amplifier with the same looks. Very Happy with it but i think analoge gear is better most times. Greetsz
Maybe they'll send you their Fairchild or LA2A clone as well. Their mics look very promising too :). If I wasn't one of the plugin geeks^^, I would maybe buy something on my own, but at least for now, I could only really use a mic and saying that, I've got a decent vocal mic, so this would just be a waste of money.
Yes, but the conditions are important. Everbody can send me a unit, but my opinion won’t chance because of that. I had a few email with company’s offering me stuff, but I couldn’t talk negative about the company. If something sucks, I just want to say it
I must say honestly. this comp is expensive and the quality is a bit disappointing. I tested the kt-1176 and wa76 and stam audio 76 weeks ago. I was very satisfied with the result kt-76 and he was the cheapest.
20 db of GR on a vocal is waay too much. Better to use 4 instances of 4-5db in series. The only time I would go for 20db of GR would be a parallel drumbus.
In mixing with analog gear its not uncommon! I also thought it was a bit squached, but might work in the mix! with your stock daw compressor you would "never" get away with over ~~6db gainreduction on a vocal with one instance
Sounds great. It must be nice to get all this free stuff. Makes me wonder why I'm sending you money when I get 930 USD a month to live on, am bedridden, share a room with someone so I can afford to scrape up some money each month to put toward equipment for my charity, and all the proceeds of my work go to the charity so we can provide affordable housing and emergency shelter for families who've lost their homes and disabled people with little or no income. I sure could use a pair of those in-ear monitors to produce demos for our voice actors that are supporting the charity. I'd hold somebody's beer to get a pair. Must be really, really nice. It's gonna take me 6 months to budget the money for a pair of those. It's kind of hard for me to spend money on things like that when I see 70 year old women dragging around everything they own in a shopping cart and a suitcase in the rain, or talk to a lady who is 62, unable to walk, is living on the street, and not only can't get Social Security to pay her disability, they are taking her widow's pension! I had to get her a wheelchair, so there went what I'd been saving for in-ear monitors! Maybe it's not the same in Holland, but in America, the streets are full of people with no where to live, no food to eat, and no hope for the future. We're working to change that, teach kids music, and teach people how to start and run their own businesses because the best jobs there are pay $12/hr and they will only hire people part time. So they are working two jobs, living in their cars (if they are lucky enough to have them), and have no medical coverage because that costs $500 a month unless you make less than $1,000.
Really want to get one of these, they are releasing the SA-76ADG. For the same price you get Revision A, D and G in the same 2U compressor! That sounds like an amazing deal

what is tgat EQ? thank you thank you; cant find!
I can't seem to find the Stam Audio SA-76 that looks like this one at the price you say. The Stam Audio website has different more expensive 1176's. Where can I find this?
Worden deze nog gemaakt? Ik kan ze niet vinden. Ik wil er ook een.
Have they stopped making this model now ?

If any one is into DIY I recommend checking out the Hairball Audio 1176, I build one back in 2015 and its simply amazing!
TreyDay i
how long did it take you?
What microphone did you guys use to record the vocals? Which preamp?
Great video, could you please make a Video about VU metering and how it relates to db metering? Thanks
Can you do a review of any of the Stam Audio microphones? I heard good things.
Would you please confirm what type of mic and preamp other processing that was done on that purple oh my gosh that was one of the best vocals I've ever heard in my life it was pristine
Woow it sounds sooo sweet, the saturation and all, that super quick attack! Seriously, no plugin can do that. Give me 10 of them!! :D
Petr Kořínek of course they can. It’s software, all they have to do is change the code to kick in after a smaller amount of milliseconds
I just checked the STAM website, it seems like they have doubled the price on this unit.
It would be really cool to hear the Uad 1176 vs Stam audio. or maby waves cla 1176 blue stripe vs Stam.
I`ve been having my eyes on the Stam audio 1176 for some time.

I would agree with a previous comment that the attack/release characteristics seemed to not be as responsive as I would expect. You were tweaking them from one extreme to the other and the relationship didn't seem wildly different.
By not as you would expect, do you mean its unlike the Urei 1176? Or just logically doesn't seem different enough?
I have a challenge! Do you think you could do video in which you build an analog processing rack for under 1000€? It would be great to have advice on how to start building a studio that works at least partially with analog equipment.
Well.. i don't like that there is a static treshhold and you can only change the input volume to compress like you want it to..
Hey, can you possibly do a demo of the SA-76 on a few sources, maybe Vox, drum, and bass, but really push it hard and demo the all buttons in mode aswell? James Cassidy search for my review and demos of the 76.
Sorry typo that was a typo I meant to say vocal not purple
when u order it to Netherlands from STAM audio..do they charge import tax ?
Yes, 21%
White Sea Studio Holy shit
is it my idea or the Attack and Release are not so responsive ?
I also don't understand what's wrong with this video review.. you don't hear any change even at all buttons in.. it's ridiculous..
Karlo Mihaljevic Err, your ears just be fried. Huge differences, even listening on my iPad.
super responsive, I can hear it on my laptop speakers

Darn, that thing’s got some mojo
Every kind of honest gear sounds better than a plugin simulation
That was true 15 years ago. Modern digital algorithms can achieve the same "sound" as iconic outboards.
I used to say that a little over a decade ago. Not anymore, its insane how much I would prefer a software emu of a good piece of hardware over an otherwise mediocre piece of gear.

Yes mate ...love it.
Darn! I'm a software junkie :D
(but I only put my bets on open-source software)
LOL so what you're saying is you're addicted to downloading free shxt off the internet? Because I am too.
Woaahh, die klinkt lekker! :O Klinkt als een goeie deal voor die prijs :D
Wow. Just, wow!
I don't feel that this 1176 smashes transients with the shortest attack possible...
Same attack time as the original!
do more analog gear videos like this! less plug ins!
Out perform every single plugin? What if I prefer the WAVES plugin than that Analog?
anybody could say something about the KT76 in comparison of the SA76? if somebody of the engineers at Stam or Klark Teknik will read this: why the hell do you stick to the originals... we are a plugin generation with the comfort of dry/wet and a int.sidechain... feeling like a littlebit limited with a new hardware from 1976...

Attack settings are opposite then in original
That's some buttery compression! Especially when you consider how insanely hard it's being hit
Maybe they'll send you their Fairchild or LA2A clone as well. Their mics look very promising too :).

So you just showed the hardware and didn't compare it with anything else? But you convincingly said "hardware beats any software".
if you have to go out of the box and back in, then you now have to be concerned about conversion. I just dont have the cash to open that can of worms
MY GOD! (god is not real) That sounds amazing 🤤
try klark teknik 1176
The fact actual money wasn't exchanged is irrelevant. You got an expensive piece of hardware for free.
Yes, but the conditions are important. Everbody can send me a unit, but my opinion won’t chance because of that. I had a few email with company’s offering me stuff, but I couldn’t talk negative about the company. If something sucks, I just want to say it
If someone gives you a free piece of expensive hardware for its gunna make it pretty hard to say something bad about it
That’s why the pharmaceutical companies give free stuff to doctors, definitely not trying to influence them at all...
Cherished mammaries!
