V3 27 is (was) my first Mathews. First BRAND NEW bow as well. Loved how actually dead the shot felt in my bow hand. Couldn't really speak on it's draw cycle compared to anything else as I'm not that versed in many bows. I was previously shooting the PSE Evolve 35. The Evolve was so easy to draw back and comparatively sooo different than the V3 that it took me some time to learn how to draw. I'd be bouncing off the back wall and almost get sucked through my rest in the process. But, after shooting it for a few weeks I learned how the new toy worked and got to really appreciate the deadness on the shot and how "smooth" the draw is. It really is that noticeable. But, after some self reflection and getting to know the V3 27 I've come to realize the super short ATA with the super sharp string angle in conjunction with my 29" DL that it never quite fit correctly. Nor was my accuracy nearly as good compared to my 35" ATA Evolve. Got lucky and found a guy willing to trade straight up my 27 for his 31, same color and everything. I should have listened to my gut at the bow shop in Feb. and took the 31 off the bat.
I was looking into buying the v3 27. My draw on Mathews bows is 26. Do you think the string angle would be an issue for me? I currently am shooting a no cam htx.
That's why I love my VXR 28 with 75# mods, because it is jussssst enough to function for my 29.5DL, and its questionable at times but I'm dead on at 40 yds with it so that's all I Care about. I love my V3 31 for target shooting and it's good to know I can have that longer ata if I'm going out LR bow hunting
As I mentioned, this isn't really a comparison to other manufacturers (I haven't shot the Hoyts), but I think this was a more solid "evolution" than most give credit for.
Your getting comfortable in front of the camera. Videos seem to flow well. Keep up the good work. Still shooting my old trusty Z7.Just cant seem to let it go. Good review bud.
My first was a bear redemption EKO I just bought not too long ago, I absolutely love it, I have friends that shoot, PSE, Matthew’s, Hoyt, and I just wanted to try something different, and I shot all different brands and the V3 was probably the nicest but a close 2nd to the pse and the bear
Same. Mine finally just came in. Ordered it in February. Took 4.5 months. The engage grip is terrible. I threw it in the garbage. Ordered a ultra view Bee Real grip for it. Love the V3 31
I realize this video is 2yrs old. I bought this bow when it came out. I was shooting the Chill X prior. I wanted more speed and a somewhat shorter bow, so I thought. The Chill X is still my go-to. Nothing really compares until I shot the phase 4. I am considering seriously aboning the V3 for the phase 4. I have had some shoulder issues and finally had surgery this year and all is well now. I think I like the phase 4 better due to it being 2 inches longer and the brace height at 6.5 instead of 6 inches. By this time I'm sure you have shot the phase 4. What are your thoughts on which one is better? Thanks
Good video. I'm sure it shoots great. I'm with you though, in liking the longer ATA. I have the 32 7, and the Traverse is the only bow I would trade it for. The longer ATA and brace height seem to make it balance a little better.
Thanks Steve. I'm really wanting to set the Traverse back up and shoot them side-by-side to get a feel for the differences. I'm still a HUGE fan of the Traverse. I just need to buy a new rest to put on it.
I started with a triax which was a great bow to me but since it only went to 60lbs I decided to upgrade and honestly I couldn't be happier my v3 27 shoot amazing. Alot of people don't really think its a big difference but to me it was it just feel better I love it
Great video..liking the longer riser / shorter axle/axle. Curious you mention 260fps @ 60 lbs - what gr arrow and what are the specs / speeds @ 70 lbs?
I really don't understand how the roller guard being perfectly in line with the arrow is optimum for vane clearance. The right vane is directly in line with the roller..... I've swapped top hats to push my cams further left and I still get contact with the right vane and roller (with centershot at 13/16" +) It doesn't make sense. "We've increased vane clearance by putting the roller directly in the path of the fletching"????
I was shooting a bowtech Carbon Icon before so around the same ATA from from I remember. I noticed that the longer riser and bit more weight to the bow helped with keeping it steady. It was much quiver and less vibration but was stepping up into another price point for bows loved my other bow but this one I went all out on for attachments and setting it up. Tuning was a little harder cause my hamskea rest was a would hit the centerguard arm before I could get it high enough and over enough but that just takes moving my nock point and new tophats.
Thanks for the review, I'm looking to get new bow this year and this is one I'm considering, shot it at local shop and felt good bit was told to try the new Hoyt before deciding
Waited for the new Traverse for 2021 was going to buy it . No Mathews had nothing for a 28.5 draw length with at least a 33inch axel to axel. So I thought I'd give the new flag ship bows a try. They were a mess in my opinion. We now I have a Hoyt Axius Ultra it fits my hand and shots nice.
Only new bow close to the traverse is the trx34 but its 800 dollars more then the hunting bows you should just buy a used traverse for like 700 800 bucks and save some money and still get a killer bow at a great price
V3:31 is my 1st bow. I love it, yet it makes me wonder...... v3 is so good!! Is this the only bow I will ever need? Just rambling thoughts 🤔. Anyone else think that?
I loved the V3 until I started shooting the new Bowtechs. They don't quite reach the IBO (what bow does?) but they draw more smoothly and are just as dead in hand as the Mathews. Also, they are easier to tune (no tophats and all) and they have the comfort setting for those who want/need that. It's like two bows in one.
I shot a v3 side by side with a Drenalin. Though the V3 was faster it wasn't any quieter than the Drenalin according to the decibal reader and it didn't draw smoother. I grouped better with the Drenalin. Honestly the Halon was a better bow. These companies have hit a engineering wall. Not sure why we as consumers just want to pretend it hasn't happened.
That’s just your opinion My opinion is this. I have the Halon and the Halon 32 and the Triax. The V3 is by far Mathews best bow to date. It’s leaps and bounds over the Halon.
@@jayonez137 Not opinion fact. Used a decibal reader. The drenalin was quieter. The draw curve on a drenalin is also much smoother. That's not opinion that's fact. Learn how to calculate draw curve and do the test yourself.
I would def agree! I’m on my 2nd Mathews (creed xs currently) and while they hav held up ok and havnt let me dwn when crunch time on a nice buck. They (esp Mathews) changes 1 little thing and the name, then raises the price and claims every time it’s All new and improved or total redesigned which is complete bs! Plus they keep adding weight to these new bows! Mine loaded ready to hunt is lighter then these new ones bare! And yes this is my opinion but I’ve bn bow hunting about 30yrs and I laugh hard at all these manufactures sayin total redesign every year! Lmao it’s all marketing bs to get us consumers to open our wallets!
Got a v3 31 using the Easton 6.5 300s just looking at the arrow in the rest it seems like the flights his that new roller system that you mentioned? Have you found that also? Will it effect my accuracy?
You mentioned it in tithe but never talked about it so just wondering. I moved from a PSE Evolve 28 to the V3 27. Took me about 3 days to actually figure out how to shoot it. Did you see the review on my channel? The long riser and beyond parallel limbs make it a very different feel. Did you see my review on my channel? Thanks for sharing the thoughts.
To me they did mathews traverse is the best bow they ever made new bows draw stiff and not nearly as smooth as the traverse still a nice bow but I don't feel it's better then the traverse and mathews does not seem like they like making 33 34 ata hunting bows if I didn't get the traverse the trx34 I might have looked at but traverse is just a nice do everything bow glad I bought One when I did
I guess after shooting my switchback xt for years I don't understand the hype in many ways. Part of the reason I kept that bow that long. There's really not very much difference between my switchback xt and the v3 as bare bows go. Yes there are minor things that make tuning and stuff easier. However the felt vibration and tourq are almost the same. By the time you get it all set up they are about the same speed at my 70 lb draw weight. They both are about the same decibels going off. They both just as accurate set up correctly. Watch people chime in that never actually shot the two bows. In reality I see very little change over almost 19 years. Just more gadgets and tech stuff for easier tuning. Strait up truth. Wer the other bows between the two that bad that it created the hype? Sorry just calling it wat it really is. Not very impressed. Considering my switchback xt has a 318 ibo. Not realy even sure they even advanced in technology since then.

I have a Bear Redemption EKO and I absolutely love it!
Hoyt made a lot of big changes in their flagship bows this year. Matthews was more of an evolution, than a leap.

I sold my Z7 and bought a Vertix, the Vertix is great but that Z7 was a great bow.
My first flagship bow is a v3 31, I love it.

Wondered the very same thing but too many folks are saying it does offer more clearance. I hope so because Mathews needed to address this pesky issue.

Used to shoot the z7 happy with it just moved to the 27-inch Z3 could not be happier with it shoot smooth everything I wanted in a bow
I have the 31 AA V3, and I can say its great but with I had another inch on my draw length. Its maxed at 31.5 including d loop.
I went from a Mathews Lx to a V3 Love the V3. The Lx feels like a kids toy now.

Both Mathews v3 and hoyts ventum 33 / RX5 are exceptional bows. Can’t go wrong with either it’s just a matter of preference .
Thanks! Decided on the Ventum 30 …awesome bow!

Does a longer riser to ATA ratio make a real difference, or is it marketing hype from Mathews?
Currently have a heli-m but debating on getting the V3. Seems a lot faster and smoother. But we will see. Any drawbacks to the dual cams?
Ironically you and most people aren’t going to notice more forgiveness in a 31 vs a 33 in bow … outside of a placebo affect
