Love how humble you are man. Most people would say they could match or beat whatever then never prove it, you doubt it without trying first, which is hugely respectful.
When asked if he had any regrets about lifting so heavy, after his 13 surgeries, Ronnie Coleman said "YES", "I regret not lifting more weight for more reps." - One of the best athletic anecdotes ever spoken by anybody. Long Live King Ronnie Coleman...!
I guaranty that Ronnie would not of had all those issues if he would of only lifted very heavy in his off season being fuller, carbed up and on a calorie surplus as his joints in turn would of been more protected and hydrated and his spine as well would of been more protected due to the fluid and a little more fat around the waist while lifting these enormous poundage. A known fact from any powerlifter such as myself included can vouch for.
The problem people don’t understand about Ronnie being in the condition he’s in is it wasn’t exactly because he lifted heavy. He also had a disc issue he chose not to immediately get corrected. He instead chose to receive chiropractic treatments then head back to the gym the same day or the day after and continue doing heavy compounds. Yes, injuries happen when pushing weight. But there’s a reason many people stay healthy and can still lift heavy.
@sbdftw1702 yes I agree but also my point above is a valid scientific statement and also a contributing factor to some of his problems he has today. The lifting heavy is fine at higher body fat levels but being at 5 weeks out of a show and lifting stupid heavy like this, you've got no fat or water protecting and hydrating your joints and spine which down the liine can lead to serious consequences

@6thsense464 Likely not correct. There are powerlifters and strongmen who have had back injuries and a series of imaging has revealed that the lifting heavy actually cause micro fractures that heal and caused the bones and back to be stronger due to heavy lifting. Squat university did a video on it if you’re interested

Mitch is intelligent to know even WSM should back off certain things.A young man and he will be able to bounce 8 grandkids off his knee decades from now recounting his accomplishments.
7:10 Ronnie didn't mess up his body because he lifted heavy. He messed it up because he had a surgery and instead of recovering, went right back to the gym, which lead to another surgery. He repeated that cycle until he was in a wheelchair.
i just don't see how squatting 800 pound or leg pressing 2000 pounds is good for your joints. come on. use your logic. nobody should be training this way for 25 years in a row. even Olympic weightlifters stop after 30 years old or so.
Very fun vid. Always love the honest review of yourself vs others. With his migration to body building, I would imagine Terry Hollands would be pretty good at Ronnie workouts.
One thing we need to remember from Ronnie performing those lifts: Ronnie was very very low carb depleted at 5 weeks out of an Olympia show and his body fat was in the low 4 or 5 percent before he would drop at a lower percentage of 1 to 2 percent on stage(according to Ronnie's claims and testing done on him prior to his show). When you are depleted as he was, you are actually and technically not at your strongest by far due to calorie deficit and carbs depletion. Many people would probably say shit like that his lifts are not that impressive compared to some other athletes blah blah but these so called other athletes are not shredded and depleted the way Ronnie was when they performed their world records lifts. That is the reason why Ronnie's lifts were so impressive due to being disadvantaged from the gecko meaning calorie deficit and carb depleted. Ronnie said it best by challenging anyone to do what he does 5 weeks out of a show! I can only imagine how much more Ronnie could of lifted being full , carbed up and on calorie surplus and weighing 40 lbs more.
One whole paragraph to excuse Ronnie when he doesnt need no excuses. How much did Ronnie lift in the off season then if he was weaker when he did this workout? Answer: Not more than this. This was Ronnies maximum strength, he has mentioned it multiple times, the fact that he was this strong shredded doesnt mean he was stronger when he wasnt shredded, he just retained strength real well into dieting.
@deadcakesandpanlifts2019 listen .. it's not about excuses but it's all logic and proven science lol.. you are not supposed to be able to lift this much on a calorie restriction, low carbing next to nothing and on such bodyfat unless you crank the fucking tren and test to stratospheric amounts like all the pros. just take Larry Wheels and see why he gets hurt every so often when he tries to stay shredded all year long and lift the way he lifts. Many bodybuilders ended their career doing so.
@@deadcakesandpanlifts2019😂😂😂 You are VERY ignorant if you genuinely believe that. In fact, are you a novice to the weightlifting, Olympic lifting and strongman? Because only a novice would say such a thing. 1.) What Ronnie ACTUALLY said is this: "I didn't like to go that high too often because of injury. But if I had one regret it's that I didn't do more reps and more weight. I didn't push myself as high as I could go." He stated that he could have done 2 more reps of deadlift (but the squat felt heavy). 2.) And as somebody who has been an active bodybuilder for 15 years, there is NO WAY ON EARTH you are as strong while cutting for Mr. Olympia 5 weeks out as you are in the off season. Just not possible. The lack of glycogen reduces ATP and raises the lactic acid turnover. 3.) Moreover, if you actually watched the original video of Ronnie's regimen, you'll see the 800lbs for 2 came AFTER a full on reverse pyramid of 10, 8, 6, 4, 2. Ronnie LIFTING to max out, without ketosis, without doing a full on deadlift workout, could probably hit 900lbs for a single. He DEFINITELY could if he solely trainee for strength and not aesthetics. He is definitely in the conversation for strongest men of all time based on God given genetics (imo). You're wrong on this one buddy.
@@jfandjanicegrenier3402😂😂😂 He clearly is a child who hasn't lifted weights before. No amount of trenbolone is going to optimize your strength WHILE cutting for Mr. Olympia and working each body part twice a week. Impossible. He has no knowledge of biochemistry.
Hey Mitch. What would you say is pushing your body to the limit. Each one of us is different. Let say my max deadlift is 250KG. Is me doing that year-round on a bi-weekly basis seen as "pushing your body to the limit". Even tho I enjoy doing that and my body feels great. So basically just always lifting heavy (for me) when i go to the gym. Do you think something like that would have a bad influence on you long term?
I just had this conversation with someone last night and it's a common theme I keep addressing.... If memory serves correctly Coleman had prior injuries and it wasn't til later in life and all the surgeries that wound up doing him in (I believe he regrets the surgeries, again... only if memory serves correctly)... So I tell people all the time there's plenty of strength athletes lifting heavy and though the occasional injury might be ran into, most people are getting along just fine so don't let that stop you from pursuing strength! I used to want to get even bigger and stronger but at 35 I've already ran into enough injuries that I've had to back off on things.... even adding additional volume can jack things up as I've never had any issues deadlifting in the hamstring but last night I had a tweak so you just never know when or what can happen. I still have the thirst and desire for more, but I'm having to learn to push in new/differing ways because my body is making it clear to me it can't tolerate as much as I'd like to throw at it, and if I just blindly push through in obstinance then that's when I really set in some longer term stuff so thankfully I'd like to think I'm finally smartening up and not beating a dead horse here! :P
At what point should you put on the belt? What about an intermediate lifter ? My back goes if I don’t use one, particularly with the squat. My numbers are 405,405,315 on squat dead and bench for 2-3 reps rn possibly more def not any less, I’m 5’9 205
It's important to note that Ronnie got a herniated disk in 1996 and only got surgery for it in 2007. That's the main factor for his condition now. Everybody blames it on lifting heavy, but lack of proper injury management was the issue.
Yeah Buddy, you made that look like some for real Light Weight!!

Whats amazing about Roonie is that he did those crazy weights and he did it bodybuilder style, multiple reps and multiple sets, slowly working his way up to crazy weights, strict form and just making sure he hits the muscles hes training, non of those 1 reps, just to lift the weight up.
Ronnie was also a few weeks out from a show. And was already in the single digit bodyfat. So his numbers are even more impressive.
Omg I consider Mitch is super strong already. Ronnie Coleman prime is just different animal
Nice stuff, friday night here with some beers. Had to do some rewinding on bent over rows since i was only looking kg number first. It was same than in warmup, so the real kg was little over 206 kg.
Mitchel I give you a tip as strongman men among themselves I do front squat with straps that works a lot better
you moved that 405 deadlift faster than i move 135, i just hit 390 pounds at 134 bodyweight, and trying to move 405 i felt like it was glued to the floor
Super motivating man! Keep the videos coming! 💪🏻😎🔥
The most impressive thing about Ronnie’s 800lbs deadlift and squat is that it was during his mr Olympia prep
Not only was it close to a world record it was in the middle of his Olympia prep so he was cutting hard. Crazy stuff.
Fantastic said man! you are great!
Ronnie said in his interview on Brian's podcast this week that his back issues stem from a back injury he suffered while playing football, not do to lifting weights.
That's probably how it started, but ignoring the injury and going full send with the weights made it as bad as it turned out to be.
That was the breaking point yes, but to get to that point it takes time and It was all the heavy weight years on years most likely.
Concept is called the principle of bone remodeling and Wolff's Law.
@@OfficialNattyOrNotyou know better than Ronnie? Lol you weren't even born yet. Ronnie's pro football dreams were derailed and he was in physio daily because of that injury. What RUclips video you saw or what study you googled doesn't mean anything
This is one of my favorite videos of yours, just love it!! Yeah Buddy!!! LIGHTWEIGHT!!!
Damm, when he just rows 184kg and you realise that's your max 1 rep deadlift. Unbelievable strength.
What a great video. Gives great perspective
King Ronnie. That's insane that pretty much every lift but one he beats out the WSM 20 years later! Sure you'd have him on a push press max also, but for reps, my gawd!
As always man… you’re the MOOSE 🫎! I think Pujanauski would have been great to see with RC both at their prime. Dudes are genetic freaks of nature (in the most heartfelt way 🤙 💪).
You probably aren’t even at your prime yet either 😳💪. Im excited to see how things shake up when Thor and Martins Licis get back into the mix as well 🤙.
Never thought there could be another strongman champion as laid back and nice as Brian Shaw. Then Hooper appears!
Ronnie at bodybuilder levels of bf, doing that stuff week in week out shows how much of a legend he is. Deserves a spot on the “strongest men of all time” list imo.
Tbf your bent over row form with 184kgs was solid 👌
This video shows how impressive Ronnie was. He was throwing around that weight at single digit body fat as well. Just wow. Light weight baby!
It would’ve been so cool to see Ronnie in his prime compete in WSM.
Agreeed!
Mitch is intelligent to know even WSM should back off certain things.A young man and he will be able to bounce 8 grandkids off his knee decades from now recounting his accomplishments.
Supremely strong, and a nice guy to boot, awesome man.
nice video. you should try ronnies leg workout ;) when he takes every plate in the gym for the legpres ;)
out here rowing our squats/deads :')
Such a positive guy. Love the videos man
It's always cool to see interesting videos...good stuff
Ronnie did 800lb deadlift for 3 but that was also at very low single digit body fat %. That’s a whole different level of strength.
No it was 2 reps
Imagine if Ronnie had became a power lifter instead of a bodybuilder.
In deadlift suit
Probably many unbeaten WR's would be still standing 💀@@nickwebb9937

@ronnie Coleman needs to react to this!
I admire this gentleman's humility.
Nice to see a real strongman showing that that Ronnie Coleman was no joke in the gym
Wsm and a bodybuilder are similarly strong. It's starting to feel like bodybuilding is just the best way to train, period.
Whoa!! Amazing strength!! My spine would be obliterated.
Loved the video my friend! You did freakin awesome. Seems like you have a really good down to earth personality. Keep up the hard work!!!
Very fun vid. Always love the honest review of yourself vs others. With his migration to body building, I would imagine Terry Hollands would be pretty good at Ronnie workouts.
Appreciate you brother learned a lot from you and have been passing the information on 👊👊👊
One thing we need to remember from Ronnie performing those lifts: Ronnie was very very low carb depleted at 5 weeks out of an Olympia show and his body fat was in the low 4 or 5 percent before he would drop at a lower percentage of 1 to 2 percent on stage(according to Ronnie's claims and testing done on him prior to his show).
I didn't push myself as high as I could go."
He stated that he could have done 2 more reps of deadlift (but the squat felt heavy).
Ronnie was amazing !
Yeah Buddy!
belly wrap with belt because belt pinches or more stability, or both?
Also Ronnie pulled 800 for 2 on his 5 set after already going to failure for sets of 10,8,6,4 I believe which makes it even more crazy
You have to LIVE it.
Great lifts Mitch. Super strong.Think his Leg press wasn’t on the list 2300lbs I believe
Do you know any strongman that lift more than 2300lb leg press?
@@Manusia.satu1Eddie Hall
@@riteshmasqured Ronnie lift more than him. Eddie just 1000kg
Geez that’s a crazy Yeah Buddy….Workout💪
Loving these videos
some great philosophy at the end
At what point should you put on the belt? What about an intermediate lifter ? My back goes if I don’t use one, particularly with the squat. My numbers are 405,405,315 on squat dead and bench for 2-3 reps rn possibly more def not any less, I’m 5’9 205
It's important to note that Ronnie got a herniated disk in 1996 and only got surgery for it in 2007. That's the main factor for his condition now. Everybody blames it on lifting heavy, but lack of proper injury management was the issue.
great video man!!
Casually being able to call a 4 plate deadlift "light" and not a working set of 5x3 is goals
