Eyewitness video from Thursday (January 16) showed a fire burning at the site of Vistra Corp's Moss Landing power plant in Monterey County, California.
Reuters was able to confirm the location from stacks and nearby buildings that matched satellite imagery and file images. The date was verified by metadata on the original footage.
The fire was detected at an energy storage facility at the plant, added Vistra, an energy company that also has other coal-to-solar projects underway at plants in Texas and California.
