You kinda made me giggle just before you added the grain filler when you said "the grain is there for sure. I'm gonna have to be fine with that". Girl - you know you weren't going to be fine with that. LOL. Your wood shop is an example of what passes for work in this world. They were OK with those tenons and that poor laminated joint. You were not and that makes you the great craftsperson that you are. Have a great week!
That leaf lamination would make me 'Spit'. If I use biscuits or dominoes for alignment. I make sure they are well away from the ends etc. to ensure any finishing work does not expose them. Trena did a good job of what should not have been.
Thank You Trena. Two different projects, finishing and good old carpentry with beautiful results. Your knowledge and expertise have turned a video in a master class. Craving for next one.
Striving to be the best you can be is not a bad thing, it is a very big reason why you are so good at what you do. I have always admired your work . I always look forward to your videos & I enjoy every one. 👍❤️
I especially like your videos because of the lack of screaming and the impression of a shop in which skill amounts to more as a heap of expensive toys... also I love to see you repairing pieces from your customers. Tastes a lot more like the real world. Looking forward to the next video 🙂
Thank you for showing us how to fix the fish eye problem on this table. Personally it was more to my taste before the shadowing, but it's not my table. I look forward to seeing you match the two timbers on the dining table. Shed news: One week closer to the electricians coming. Beautiful outro. I would even put up with some slush to live near that beauty.
@johnsfurniturerepair True. Yet you can add more layers and go out in public. When it is the opposite, you can only take off so many before the police offer to house you.
Trena finds solutions! By the way, Thomas Johnson's daughter Emily might be moving back to Maine and to her dad's workshop. Looks like Emily's gonna have a shop dad, too. We'll see. Thanks for you videos, Trena!
My goodness, you could land an airplane on that tabletop runway! The little table looks really great. The land looks so beautiful and the homestead all cozied up. Take care Trena.
Thank you so much for showing the kitty.I was truly worried something happened or she got sick.Maybe I over re acted, because we had to put our little kitty down. Thanks again for letting us know shes fine.God Bless to you and your family.

We are always harder on ourselves than other people are. Loving that grey toned walnut. Both the grain & colour are gorgeous. Nice to see your foremen keeping an eye on you, 😂. 👏👏❤
Thank you so much for showing the repair of the finish issues on last week’s project. I didn’t expect a whole other project - so interesting too! As usual, your perfectionism is not a fault, it’s a gift for your viewers & your clients! I’m still chuckling over “Seskatchewan is Saskatchewan-ing.” 😂
Surprised that the wood filler ended up being the best outcome. the sheen on the parlor table is so beautiful now. I am always impressed with your technical expertise. Your dad taught you well.
This video illustrates how much of a professional you really are. You had an issue arise. You addressed it head on, not dodge it. You problem solved it, and showed how you problem solved it. In addition you showed another project in progress with similar issues resolving that pieces problems.
So lucky the person who owns that table. You have done a superior job on it and I can't imagine anyone who could not love to have that somewhere in their home. You are just a magic maker with wood........absolutely gorgeous. Each piece of wood you work on comes out beyond perfection! Thank you, Trena, for sharing your talents with us. I just get mesmerized with your work! Blessings
This is why your work stands out you are meticulous and do not settle that's what sets you and your work apart from others ,Never Change Trena this is why I watch you ,your work ethic is second to None .
Thank you, sweet Trena. Another wonderful job. Great seeing Shop Dog and pooseykat! Looking forward to watching you match up the table leaves with the top. You are one skilled crafts person for damn sure, and thanks for showing yourself on the video, love seeing you!!! Cheers until then.
You really do put your heart and soul into every piece. I'm so impressed with your eye for detail and your respect for your clients. Super job. From Scotland. xx
I remember that table from last week. Good to see a follow up on that. We used to have a table with a leaf in the middle like that when I was a kid. So, some of that was pretty familiar. Including those metal pieces to make the pieces come together more easily. But actually building one looks complicated. Definitely takes some skill. And I don't think I have ever seen one with two leaves. That's taking things to an entirely different level. Not only that, but your slider is better than the ones I have seen.
This is a fun video. We enjoyed the two projects at the same time. The little table top turned out so smooth, and you put that pretty darker-toned edge on it again. Those huge leaves look great. I liked that tryptic scene at the end.
Thank you for bringing this bugger of a table back. I was fascinated with why it fish eyed and how you resolved it. The perfectionists sure came out in this one. It's finish is so smooth...just levely. Now how in the world are you going to be able to match that wood? Can't wait till next weeks adventure. Take care and keep warm.
Saskatchewan is so beautiful in the winter time! You have to be beside yourself with your new shop just on the edge of its launch. Hey, you did a superb job on that little table that you had to go back and rework the top finish. I would’ve never thought of filling the grain like. I would have assumed, that’s, that’s my ignorance, that you would’ve had to re-stained that, but you learn something new every day if you’re not, well, you should be. no work on that dining room table that you extended out for your customer is just over the top! You are a crafts person unmatched. I wish you and yours a very, very happy holiday! We all look forward to the new shop in the new year starting a new chapter in your life. 💙❤️
I knew you wouldn't leave that little table as it was. Lol I knew you would get her looking the best you could, as always. I'm looking forward to the bigger tables colorwork! I know you will get it just right, cause that's what you do. Landscape is beautiful up there. I'm still waiting on my red oak tree to turn all red. I still have lots of green. I'm in west central Texas. We've had some rain after a long hot dry summer, so my yard is still greenish. It was brown and crunchy all summer. Ugh
Hi, Trena! Thanks for showing us how you fixed that finish! It turned out great! And yes, I have noticed you don't have a gadget centred shop and I appreciate that! Some times I get the impression one has to have a small-to-medium warehouse and a few millions for huge machines to do woodworking. I have neither of those handy, so it's refreshing and inspiring to see some do it more back to basics. 😊
@@johnsfurniturerepair No, it can't. Also, it's inspiring for us who wants to try it out, but at a manageable level, lol. I get the gadget joy and all, but I prefer the real skill of it all.
I was so curious about what happened with last week's table and the finish problem. Your explanation was great - I didn't know it took so long for some solvents to fully evaporate. I really look forward to seeing the color match on the large table. I love your work as well as your charm, Trena. Stay warm.
Hi Trena. What a great video. I'm so pleased that you showed us how you overcame your obvious disappointment in the side table. The outcome is significantly better than the original finish, well done. Also, the enhancments to the dining table are supurb.. I especially like how you replicated the side profile on the new leaves is brilliant. I'm looking forward to seeing how you finish the table. Well done and thank you for sharing this with us all.
Well it's nice to know you're human (lol). Your explanation of what what went wrong was an education itself. Thanks for sharing both projects. Agree with you that the shop that made the leaves doesn't quite cut it (pun intended) - especially that bad edge join. No excuses. If the customer would tolerate losing an 1/8 to 1/4 inch in width, I'd lean toward sawing out the join, and reglue it. Extremely wide piece, so maybe hard to handle with your equipment. Just a thought. Thanks for taking us along for the WHOLE story.
Your little oak table is Fabulous! My mother had the Amish make me a solid oak hope chest 46 years ago. A young gal has a certain push and pull with mom. She wanted maple. I wanted oak. So we compromised with oak and a maple finish (on the outside) Still to this day I prefer the natural color on the inside.
Your work is so immaculate and awesome! I bet your arms and shoulders are very muscular from all the sanding and other things you do. You are so cool! 😎
As the saying goes.. 'Not just a pretty face'. The eminent professor has the theory and practical experience to understand the problems and the solutions. I have frustrations sometimes but not to your level. I make / refurbish large solid wood slab tables quite often and use epoxy to fill the cracks and inclusions. I get bubbles from the reaction which drive me nuts. Speaking of 'Nuts' Shop dog must have a few marble missing, by wanting to be out in the cold snow. 🥶🥶🥶. I'm happy with Australian Sunshine 😁 Great results as always
Happy USA Thanksgiving! I watch your channel via my cable TV's RUclips app. I can watch but I can't write comments, just thumbs up, so I always do. Your work always amazes me. Thank you so much for making these videos.

Thank you for the Nessa & shop cat video as well as the 2 tables. The little one turned out so well, in the end. I'm interested to see you get that old & new walnut to come together color wise.
My Grandma had that exact same extendable dining table, it saw many meals, family get togethers including my wedding dinner and card games. My sister in law gave it away.
Hi Trena! Loved this awesome long video! Now I can show my husband how to make our table longer. Thanks! Do you have a Amazon wishlist? I’d love to be able to get some things for you. Take care…Angela
Love my DowelMax. The included spacing rod is 1/4" diameter. I bought a 36" x 1/4" steel rod to use as a spacer for more widely-spaced dowel holes. Works great.
Trena i like the dowel jig it worked well. The small table turned out great. Oh by the way maybe i am wrong but it looks like you lost some weight. Another excellent job thank you for sharing. Stay warm.👍
Watching you problem solve is a great learning experience for us. Your new tool is way cool! BTW - you look too young to have been doing this work for 25 years. 😘 This was an extra fun video for me!! Trena, critters, beautiful scenery and craftsmanship all in one! 😁😄
Beautiful work on getting those dowels done and profile Trena. So much technical skill is required to accomplish it. I love how detailed you were in your explanation and showing us the way you did it. Extremely helpful. ❤
Another outstanding job, Trena. Your meticulous attention to detail is what sets you apart from other furniture restorers. I look forward to your videos more than all the other channels to which I subscribe. And I am never disappointed.😊❤
Hi Trena.I don’t normally post comments on videos, but your last two videos impressed me greatly. You showed that even for professionals such as yourself, things don’t always work out first time. The final finish was superb.I would love to watch the final work on the two leaf table.Keep up the great content…. John from Warrington.North West England
39:00 Interesting discussion about color tone matching; a topic which has always bewildered me... Anxious to see the conclusion. Also appreciate the info on grain filler; Oak has always annoyed me with such open grain even after finishing. Great info on fixing stubborn finish problems. And, I really enjoyed the glimpses of your fur babies throughout the video and at the end. Give them a big hug for me please. Thanks for the video! Lots of good info here. Zk
As I said on the original video, I would not have even noticed the bubbles, but you did an incredible job in getting rid of the pops. Can absolutely tell the difference between the top with the bubbles and without. The table leaf was an excellent bonus. Does you talent and ability know no bounds? The winter landscape looks amazing. I would love to have some snow to go play in. Thank you for the video.
46:18 what a wonderful finish. Fisheye defeated. What a ginormous table. Reminds me of my mom’s table. Her’s doesn’t have such large leaves but eight regular sized ones.
I really enjoyed this. 7:18 I found, because it's lacquer, that the shrinkage of the film, with not fully cured stain, is what pushes the stain to the surface, especially on very porous woods like this. Mostly because the stain in the pores doesn't dry as fast as the surface grain. Really hard to tell before you lacquer if this is not going to happen, so I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. I'll joke about the fisheye, that if pledge furniture polish was anywhere in the neighborhood being used at the time of finishing, that's probably the culpret 😂
lol yes. I just got a call from someone wanting their table refinished. They said they had just been reapplying pledge on it every week😳. I added dollars. Lol
My family isn’t very large anymore, so I just had to imagine them all sitting around such an enormous dinning table like that and enjoying a holiday meal that I’ve slaved over for a few days! And after stuffing ourselves, sitting back with fresh brewed coffee and German chocolate pie, pumpkin pie and butterscotch pie! I love that the owner knew exactly who to bring her table to for its upgrade, with professional results, on a table she’ll be using for many years! Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! (First year that I will not be doing any cooking, I think they’ve retired me)!
I envy you so much for the snow (at 52:49)! Here in Cologne (Germany) it's almost 20° C today (mid-November) and no winter in sight... Thank you very much for your instructive videos!
A cliff hanger. I will have to tune in. You did a perfect job of fabricating the new leaves, they couldn't be better. The base on that table looked much too big with just the small leaves, I wonder if it had more leaves that were just lost? Mow with your leaves it looks balanced. But you did say that it was a jackknife leaf ordeal and it didn't have the tracks for them. IDK. Very interesting, thanks.
You kinda made me giggle just before you added the grain filler when you said "the grain is there for sure. I'm gonna have to be fine with that". You cracked it on the small table, you stuck at it and the finished job is now looking great, top job.

Very interesting video, great as usual.
I’ll be watching next Sunday for the second half.

This week's lesson in problem-solving gave me some ideas not only for fisheye and dowel-locating, but your general approach to problem solving is much calmer than mine ("sweat the details" is mostly just sweat for me) and you resolved both in a straightforward manner. Hi Trena! Loved this awesome long video! Now I can show my husband how to make our table longer. Thanks! Do you have a Amazon wishlist? I’d love to be able to get some things for you. Take care…Angela
Thankyou Angela. No I haven’t gotten that set up. Just the coffee app. Thankyou for asking dear🥰
Great job 💕
Great job on both
Thank you again Trena. Awesome. :)
You are so welcome!
😅so glad to see shop dog! It’s really a great day ! Happy holidays to you and your family ! God bless!❤
You are so kind Thankyou!
Love my DowelMax. The included spacing rod is 1/4" diameter. I bought a 36" x 1/4" steel rod to use as a spacer for more widely-spaced dowel holes. Works great.
Great tip! 🥰
Your snow covered yard is beautiful. If I was shopdog, I’d be curled up next to shopcat, by the heater, wondering why you were working so hard.
Lol
Wow Trena! What perseverance! And totally worth it! Fantastic work as usual! The little table looks wonderful! 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Trena i like the dowel jig it worked well. The small table turned out great. Oh by the way maybe i am wrong but it looks like you lost some weight. Another excellent job thank you for sharing. Stay warm.👍
Thankyou! You too🥰
Watching you problem solve is a great learning experience for us. Your new tool is way cool! BTW - you look too young to have been doing this work for 25 years. 😘 This was an extra fun video for me!! Trena, critters, beautiful scenery and craftsmanship all in one! 😁😄
Thanks again❤️❤️
Great video and love the snow!!
Thanks 👍
Beautiful work on getting those dowels done and profile Trena. So much technical skill is required to accomplish it. I love how detailed you were in your explanation and showing us the way you did it. Extremely helpful. ❤
Awesome. Thankyou!
Learned something right out of the gate with this one. Solvent pop is a new one for me... maybe because I am such a procrastinator.
Well it’s working for you! 😂
Another outstanding job, Trena. Your meticulous attention to detail is what sets you apart from other furniture restorers. I look forward to your videos more than all the other channels to which I subscribe. And I am never disappointed.😊❤
Wow, thank you!
Thank you so much John!
Amazing work as usual! 👏👏❤️
Thank you! 😊
Zk
I will give them big hugs❤️ thanks for watching🥰
Beautiful! You are an inspiration.
Wow, thank you!
Thank you very much!
Lol
@johnsfurniturerepair it's the first question we should ask, do you use some sort of furniture polish? 🙄
My family isn’t very large anymore, so I just had to imagine them all sitting around such an enormous dinning table like that and enjoying a holiday meal that I’ve slaved over for a few days! And after stuffing ourselves, sitting back with fresh brewed coffee and
German chocolate pie, pumpkin pie and butterscotch pie! I love that the owner knew exactly who to bring her table to for its upgrade, with professional results, on a table she’ll be using for many years! Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! (First year that I
will not be doing any cooking, I think they’ve retired me)!
Oh well enjoy the break and have a piece of pie for me🥰
I envy you so much for the snow (at 52:49)! Here in Cologne (Germany) it's almost 20° C today (mid-November) and no winter in sight...
Thank you very much for your instructive videos!
Oh wow!
Yes I agree! Yes it was a jackknife leaf table but I took all the hardware off before filming
You are absolutely amazing!
Wow, thank you!
