The word “Hindu” is simply a term used for people living in the region between Himalayas and Bindu Sara. Sanatana Dharma declined gradually after rule of Parikshit Maharaj and Bharat. Nepal and other regions situated within Himalayas and Bindu Sara were the only regions left practicing Sanatana Dharma thus the term Hindu became a synonym for Sanatana Dharma but in reality it's only for people of a specific region, not name of the religion itself. In short anyone who lives between the geographical region of Himalayas and Bindu Sara attains the name “Hindu”. The real name for the religion of Vedic Dharma is Sanatana Dharma.
