To me, this would be a 5-star episode if not for the incontrovertible continuity error in the third act when Batman's fighting off the Joker's goons with Ivy's Rosebud in the background AFTER Harley and Ivy having already left in the car.

    So, adding up to:
    - Defining the origin of Mr. Freeze
    - Creating Harley
    - Putting Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as the most legendary voices of the iconic characters
    - Creating the dynamic duo of Harley and Ivy
Suffice to say, this show is the foundation of what we have as Batman to this day and I love it!

Over time the series meant to show that due to all the repeated exposure to plant based toxins and chemicals she used as weapons, and use of vaccines to protect her from said chemicals caused Ivy to develop superpowers.

    • @spectre111
      @spectre111 2 года назад +3

In the beginning Ivy did not really have super powers beyond her immunity to toxins. She used her scientific knowledge to create 'botanical weapons,' like how Iron Man and Batman use science to build gadgets. Later they gave her the ability to control plants when they were streamlining the DC because it was just getting way to complicated. Funny thing is that was also about the time they started pushing her into anti-hero.

She's eating salad from her own non herbicide infested organic garden, not razing down dozens of plants and discarding any that don't look perfect. Remember, her thing is the WHOLE environment. No herbicide means no run off that later becomes acid rain to destroy all plants. Just an organic garden in her greenhouse that can make the few 'for consumption' plants. Not clear cutting forests for space needed for cattle grazing. It's only a few sustainable objects that can be used for food.

He also didn't mention that Ivy injected Harley with her formula, which not only makes her immune to toxins but also highly agile. That's why in future episodes, she puts up an actual fight. Funny enough, just like Harley's origin, that plotpoint would be later adapted to the comics.

Amen. Definitely an episode that deserves to be on everyone's Top Ten. It doesn't matter where, as it could be argued for any spot within the top ten episodes but rest assured; it belongs there. A Must Watch.

This is one of those episodes that's just wall-to-wall character chemistry. Harley & Ivy are so good together you don't want it to end. Especially because the thing trying to end it is the Joker. With him, Harley is a sidekick at best, a punching bag at worst. With Ivy, she's unstoppable. It's to thank for the hilarious but legit foray into the nature of toxic relationships that is the Harley Quinn animated series.

Kudos to you for an entertaining Batman: The Animated Series episode review video!! I'm surprised you haven't included Harley and Ivy's team up appearance in the 'Batman and Harley Quinn' DC animated movie back in 2017. The main reason Bats teamed up with the Princess of Crime was for her help to locate Poison Ivy because her BFF was being lead down the wrong path by another plant-based super-villain in the movie.

One of my all-time personal favorites of Batman Tas. If you want a personal episode of Harley and Ivy that started it all, this is it.
In my opinion this also shows how clever Harley could be on her own then that she doesn't need Joker all the time. While the same time there is also a sisterly love dynamic between Ivy and Harley, despite the fact that in the end Harley return to joker in other episodes.

Batman’s view on women in BTAS
Ivy: Admit it, darling. You didn’t think two women were capable of bringing you down.
Batman (seriously): Man or woman, a sick mind is capable of anything.
Batman’s view on women in Batman Returns
    (Hits Catwoman)
Catwoman (cries): How could you?! I’m a woman!
    Batman (flustered): I’m sorry!
(tries to help her up and she one-ups him)
Just one of many examples of animation being far more mature and nuanced than live-action.
