Don Ohimeyer was one of OJ Simpson's good friends. He told Lorne to tell Norm to lay off the OJ jokes... Norm doubled down and went at OJ twice as hard.
You should watch the Chris Farley “van down by the river” SNL sketch. It’s worth it. And norm also said Chris was the funniest guy he had ever met so he would approve of it.
Laura Kightlinger said she didn't like Norm, but she was long gone by then. Actually none of the actresses liked him. Plus Chris Kattan. BTW, Norm had a bigger role in 1996 because he played Bob Dole during the election season, but by this time he was just doing Update and often repeating his old jokes (Frank Stal;one, etc) so it makes sense that some people were sick of him.
Norm said later on that he wore all those baggy clothes because secretly he was iinsecure about his skinny body. Also to be fair Don Ohlmeyer was close with OJ and Norm was relentless with the jokes about OJ getting away with double murder. If Lorne Michaels really thought Norm wasn't funny, that's almost more of a stretch than Don having nothing to do with it. Norm was ridiculously funny, he was hands down the best part of SNL during his time there and to think Lorne didn't see that just doesn't add up.
This is a great series you've embarked on. Well worth it. :)
I love that you are getting to know Artie and the Stern show. You guys didn’t get it aired there back in the day, from what I know.
23:18 love that silent 'hi Robin.'
Rare Norm video I haven’t actually seen (the whole thing that is) Awesome.

I am so here for all of these.

Ohlmeyer was the head of NBC. He could fire anybody he wanted to, and he did fire Norm because Norm wouldn't stop the OJ jokes.
You've got to watch the SNL skit "Colonel Angus" with Christopher Walken. 😊
the skit he's in with the COW BELL. 🔔
I’ve been re-watching NML episodes this past week so this is appreciated - Norm man! 😂🫡🐐
You’re probably thinking of when Norm was on Letterman after he got fired. Letterman stuck up for him
I would watch this epispde all the time on VHS i l knew Artie was right for the Howard Stern show. .. 4 years before jackie left

Letterman and Dennis Miller brought up Ohlmeyer.
don't know how you got this uploaded Rory but expect Stern's copyright team to find out and take it down but until then, let's enjoy two of the greats

You're correct about Ohlmeyer being pissed with all of Norm's OJ jokes, and I'm pretty sure i heard Norm talk about this.
