This is probably my favourite video from the Petersens so far, everything so beautiful about it! Don't understand how it does not have millions of views already! 😲
Wow! You know I'm a fan, but covering a Sinatra song with a bluegrass band is impressive. Beautiful job, lovely setting. Emmitt's lead was spot on, and the support was merely awesome. Loved Katie and Momma's beat version at the end too!

When I first saw this title on the video I thought 'not really "The Summer Wind"' and lo and behold. I'ma date myself some with this because when this song was first released our family had no TV but dad had bought an RCA floor model cabinet stereo w/turntable and AM radio. Mom loved Big Band music and Easy Listening artists. With that he bought mom several 33s and one of them was by Wayne Newton. I will never forget as a young boy listening to that album and The Summer Wind. Great job Emmet and THANKS for the memory! DK
I am going to try and stop being surprised at the breadth of the music the Petersens will put their unique stamp on. Frank would be proud. Great job! Love what everybody did!
I'm beginning to think that there isn't any kind of song that they can't do and do well. I've been following them for about three or four years now and haven't heard anything yet that I didn't like. I agree. Great job, indeed!
The Petersens have helped me better understand both the complexity and creative potential of music. I don't sing and I can strum a few chords on a guitar and that is all. Watching and listening to a song like this done in a very different way than I previously knew it is both a pleasure and a learning experience!
Is it just me, or is mum evolving as a bassist? Her basslines gave me Beatles vibes. Beautiful and summerly music, gorgeous surroundings. On a rainy day here i Norway this made me milder inside, thank you!
Soooo beautiful, the fairy-tale scenery, the sun on flowers, the flying birds.... and the amazing interpretation by Emmet enhanced by Katie's wonderful fiddle. All this beauty could not come in more apt times, when the world is plunged into so much darkness. Thank you Petersens!
In my opinion that was Katie's best fiddle solo. That sequential passage was terrific! The bass part was also perhaps the best I've heard and it was more upfront in the mix. I didn't expect this to be so good but it was truly terrific!
Katie Kat made that fiddle purr!!! The Petersens make it worth while to get up a bit early just to listen to a few of their vids to start the day off right !!!! ❤
_Summer Wind_ is deemed a jazz standard, with the definitive English language cover by Frank Sinatra. The song was originally a German-language song publish under the title _Der Sommerwind._ The English-language version was rendered by Johnny Mercer. Here, _Summer Wind_ is turned into a country song or a folk song. So many songs have great backstories, if only you look them up. There are a number of German-language covers of _Der Sommerwind_ on RUclips
I am a producer and listening to this piece made me call my husband in the room who is a sound engineer. I've told you all this before but whatever you've been doing to get "mom" heard is making a HUGE difference! We couldn't hear her for at least a year on your videos. We've noticed you've moved her over to the right side and we're wondering if that's to get her better "miced"? Now, she is sounding amazing - adding all the bottom to your band and it fills it out beautifully. Also, having your dobro player sing, from another room, my husband thought it was James Taylor and so did I. He is a great addition! This piece was just lovely! We wanted to just stop and take a moment to tell you all that micing of mom and the dobro voice was really great. HOWEVER, you still have us completely puzzled about how you're getting this sound outside in the weather???????? THAT is impressive!
I don't know what's changed, I think they still use the same pickup on her bass. As for the recording, it's a combination of great gear, positioning themselves to block the wind, and an amazing sound engineer who takes out the ambient sound afterwards as they insist on filming in beautiful non conducive locations haha. It's old school but if you can get it right going in, you don't have to do so much post production, and playing live many times a weeks helps them hone that!
I just attended their concert in Charlotte a couple of days ago. The bass is much more prominent than any of these videos, the dobro much sharper sounding, Katie's voice more mellow, and Julianne's much stronger. The audio here doesn't do them justice.
I thought before really looking that the recordings were made in a studio and then acted out in these amazing environments. But no… this is just the best outdoor recordings I’ve ever heard.
Loved this one! I’m kind of surprised because I never would’ve thought it would be a song for the Petersens to do, but it was very nice. I particularly enjoyed Katie’s playing on this one. I love the little nuances she comes up with. 😊
Table Rock has a pretty decent Bald Eagle population. Couldn't tell if that was on in the background, but it's a definite possibility...and a completely awesome version of that song!
I too have come to the conclusion that it must be a specimen of a bald eagle. It is a fairly common species throughout Missouri and is related to the aquatic environment (the lake).
Don't remember hearing this particular song before, maybe that doesn't matter, l can say very relaxing and enjoyable to listen to thanks Emmett awesome job glad you joined the Petersens. Katie at times you and the fiddle seem to be one, the fiddle being an extension of yourself, very enjoyable to see and hear, very glad you're with the Petersen also. Thank you all, keep em coming.
Yes I'm sure you're right, when I was younger I pretty much listened to different music, then I went for several years not listening to much music at all. Then in September of 2020 by accident I saw the video of the Petersens singing ( when you say nothing at all ) so now I listen to music again and it's mostly just the Petersens I listen to. always loved this song, now a new reason to. wonderful version, lovely phrasing Emmett, and a lyrical violin singing along under Katie's hands. smoooooooooth.....
Emmett's vocals remind me of a beautiful vocalist from the 1970s, Gene Cotton. You Got Me Runnin' and "Before My Heart Finds Out" were his two biggest hits. Sort of an England Dan and John Ford Coley style popular at the time. Thanks Emmett and Company!
Yes, she is very good. I can see butterflies every where when she plays. This is one of the best, sorry that just a few have seen that. Hello from Denmark where this song is from.

That's what I was talking about, a blue(r) sky and a nice outro! Perfect. So kind of that eagle/vulture to come flying by as Emmett sings about flying by. Oh, and you did a wonderful job on the song as well.😉 I especially liked Katie's solo and Julz' mandolin work.👍
What an eye Frank! I had to review the video to observe that scene. However from the type of flight it should be an eagle or something similar. It's definitely not a vulture.
*LYRICS - Summer Wind*
------------
The summer wind
Came blowin' in from across the sea
It lingered there
To touch your hair and walk with me
All summer long we sang a song
As we strolled the golden sand
Two sweethearts
And the summer wind
Like painted kites
Those days and nights, they went flying by
The world was new
Beneath a blue umbrella sky
Then softer than a piper man
One day it called to you
I lost you to
The summer wind
Well, the autumn wind and the winter wind
They have come an' gone
But still the days, those lonely days
They go on an' on
But guess who sighs his lullabies
Through nights that never end?
My fickle friend
The summer wind
Well, the autumn wind and the winter wind
They have come an' gone
But still them days, those lonely days
They go on an' on
But guess who sighs his lullabies
Through nights that never end?
My fickle friend
The summer wind
Ooh, that summer wind
