The grave robbers were called resurrectionists. It’s an interesting story to read up on. Love this video!!! Edinburgh is so beautiful. I’m so jealous 😉❤️
I just love this so much! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. My mom's name was Victoria, and her ancestors are from Edinburgh, Scotland. I cried watching the bag piper. My mom hired one for my 1st wedding back in 1998 and it was beautiful! I learned so much watching this. Thank you!! I need to visit someday. ❤
Your passion for bringing us these videos, is just remarkable! What amazing, beautiful cemeteries. Thank you for another awesome video Michael and Jessica. Happy Halloween!
Greyfriars Bobby was the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater. So it was a real treat to see your video tour of the actual location. Thank you very very much!
Grimms: as always you go above and beyond when it comes to film locations and share the story behind the story and this is awesome how the author got inspired for all the names in her characters. I always asked myself this question and thank you for answering it!!!! It’s fascinating to find out that a cemetery was the author’s inspiration for the names!!!! I think due to being such an old cemetery the names are very peculiar and interesting!!!!!
I am living vicariously through both of you!!! Thank you for making these amazing videos!!! Please enjoy your adventures for those of us who will never get to visit these awesome places!!!! Much love to you both! ❤❤❤❤
I can see how the small street next to the old cafe inspired Diagon Alley. It's rare to see a school next to an old cemetary here in the states. Thank you for another beautiful adventure full of moss covered grave stones & magical history!
beautiful place ! I had the opportunity to visit it twice. Exc Video !! thanks for sharing! I really like the channel, it reminds me a lot of the trips I make with my wife ... A hug from Costa Rica!
I always find cemeteries to be so peaceful. I know it's odd. But I love walking through an old cemetery and just soaking in the history. What a gorgeous place that is!
Great video, surprised you didn't come here to Ireland, especially when Jessica is part Irish, maybe someday you'll visit our great Island, plenty of history here 🇮🇪❤️
Hi Michael & Jessica, so glad your in the UK and enjoying the darker side of British history and lore, unfortunately I've not been following you like I use to, I have my own family demons to fight and even though I've not quite got rid of them all this has made life a little more bearable, thanks guys and as always you knock it out of the park....
Also Cecil Court in London claims to be the inspiration for Diagon Alley. With the Leaky Cauldron being on the Charing Cross Road. Who really can say? Great video again guys. 👍🏼
The filming location for the Leaky Cauldron was in fact at Brough Market; where the railway lines cross over Stoney Street. The entrance to Diagon Alley, as seen at the start of Half Blood Prince is opposite Leicester Square tube station in Cranbourn Street. Personally I think the real inspiration for Diagon Alley was The Shambles in York.
We stayed in the N. 1 Apartments, above The Elephant House the week of Halloween 2019. You can see the door to the apartments in your video, you can still book the apartments thru their website, the rooms have amazing views toward the kirkyard, castle and Grassmarket. In 2019 the café was still open and served delicious food. The bathrooms were covered with Harry Potter graffiti and from the table where she sat while writing the first book, you could see the kirkyard, castle and school , obvious inspiration for her books. I would highly recommend that location for a base in Edinburgh.
Brilliant content, love how your channel gives us content on the less touristy spooky locations and educate us the viewers on places which we would never think of! Excellent content 10/10 enlighten us more!
I just don't understand people who vandalize and do graffiti in cemeteries and monuments and other historical and sacred sites; it's truly despicable. Anyway, thank you for this awesome video - that's a place I could spend days wandering around in!! Continued safe travels, you two!! Happy...Halloween!!! 🪦☠🪦
Fun fact, they leave the gates unlocked all night. Very fun for late night walks after a few apple juices at the pub. Also, don't rub Bobby's nose! That's not a tradition, no one from Edinburgh does that, it's just something that was invented by some random tour guide a couple of years ago. And as you can see, it's done a lot of damage to the poor guy in a very short space of time :(
Old Town Edinburgh , wonderful especially at this time of the year. A warm welcome to you both once again and hopefully you got to The Banshee Labyrinth on your visit , what better way to spend the Halloween period than the gothic wonders of Edinburgh
So happy you are enjoying yourselves so much. (Wish the Harryhausen exhibition had still been there for you but I think it finished some time ago?!) All the astoundingly beautiful carvings in the graveyard were worth a whole day.
I’ve been to all them locations not realising it’s all linked to Harry Potter a few years back, thank you for the history lesson and another brilliant video.
Thank you Michael and Jessica. This was so amazing and I'm not even a HP fan. That cemetery was fantastic those tombstones very unlike what we have here in US, as you know. I could easily spend hours there!
Another fantastic video. I visited Edinburgh about 20 years ago, it is an amazing city and I need to go back. You can't help but feel the the layers of history, it's literally dripping with it.
Fabulous! Thank you Mr & Mrs Grimm. I adore Scotland. I've only visited once. 300 miles from me but that's no distance when I think of how many miles you've travelled to get to the UK. I'm hoping to return April & October '24. I'm hoping you'll be travelling to Whitby 🦇 & York 👻 in North Yorkshire. Happy travels. 🖤🖤
Brilliant. I knew that graveyard inspired HP, but I didn't realise how many names were pinched for the characters. I love Edinburgh, wanted to move there for years. It has bags of character to spare. Thanks for a great video.
Absolutely brilliant. A follower for 3 years of so and you have came to my country. Amazing how you present your Uploads with such professionalism and with amazing interest its been incredible seeing your Uploads recently. I'm so glad both of you have enjoyed your time here . Excited about your next adventures..peace
Ive only ever been through Edinburgh, but wow what a place. So much history. Love the Harry Potter films & books, oh & Burke & Hare. Thanks for another awesome vid Michael & Jessica.Happy Halloween 🎃🎃🎃
Haa:) frankies pub, used to go there on a regular basis when I used to live there, my brother used to work in an Irish pub called dropkick murphy's which really close to frankies pub. I loved wondering around yhe backstreets and alleys of the city at about 2 or 3 am when the place was really quite and eerie:) theirs plenty of steps around the place
A excellent view! Appreciate your efforts and amazing research you do for these amazing vlogs! Appreciate your efforts Ty Mike & Jessica luv&peace Cheers to Continued success!❤✌💫
The tomb you’re standing in front of with the two doors reminds me of Grindgotts (sp) bank. The camera made an angle and it looked tilted like in the movie.
I always get so excited when I get a new notification for your videos. Great video, a beautiful place. It's so cool to see the names on the graves, and also the mortsafe, so interesting. Thank you!
Yet another brilliant Graveyard adventure, England cemetaries are perfectly, gothed out goodness. Big up to, England and to you, Michael and BBGhoul... And still hoping to get some Grimm, British serial killer adventures...🙂
Another wonderful job as always. Thank you for sharing so much information. The Harry Potter series is one of my favorites. What a neat cemetery to be able to visit. Just wanted to also thank you for your last video about The Witches. I just watched the movie for the first time and enjoyed it very much. Sending love and hugs to you and Jessica. Stay safe.🤗 Wouldn't it be nice if all the writers (that wrote there) that are able would get together and restore The Elephant House? Oh my Michael and Jessica, I can't thank you enough for showing me places that I have always wanted to visit but, know that I will never be able to.
Another amazing video guys, brilliant to see the names and places that inspired those stories and you can see why, Edinburgh is a beautiful place and that architecture is stunning, it looks like you are walking through a movie. And Greyfriars Bobby is the cutest legendary pup! Happy Halloween to you both 🧟♀🧟♂♥
Thank you so much for the video, I never manage to make it to the Cemetry when I go to Edinburgh. Can I also just say I LOVE Jessica's coat, it is absolutely stunning :)
❤my dear grimm. Wonderful cemetery. Very interesting inspiration was taken from cemetery for Harry potter! The black tomb is scary. Many supernatural encounters there. Great to see where Harry Potter was written.dark and eerie cemetery. L❤ve you❤❤
so cool to see you visit here in Edinburgh, there was actually an exhibition on in the national museum of Scotland on chamber street last year about anatomy: life and death and they had some of the iron coffins on display that were used for burials to try and prevent the body being taken, the iron coffins would be put around the normal coffin and then later removed when the body was no longer in a state that would be useful for stealing for the medical school.. they also had burke's (burke and hare) skeleton on display, would recommend surgeons hall museum if you ever come back, loads of interesting stuff on display although you cant film in there.
My father was born in Edinburgh. I love this video and the parts of the city you showed - just wonderful, so beautiful : I loved it. The proper title is “ resurrectionist” = grave robbers, and, while I’m on the dark things, Robert Louie Stevenson. He wrote “Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde”, I think in London - it’s certainly set in London - but when it was published, many, who knew him, said his description of London was more like Edinburgh, where he was originally from. Just thought you might be interested. Anywho, I’m glad you and Jessica are enjoying yourselves, Blessings to both of you,❤,❤.
That was really good & interesting, never knew that most of the names in the harry Potter books/movies was taken from gravestones, I guess harry Potter was born in Edinburgh Scotland ☺️
Edinburgh used to be a waled city. Flodden was one of the city walls from the 15000s. The Riddle family must have been very prominent. There is also little court which is a side street off of the Royal Mile there (high Street). There's so many people buried in this graveyard. The land is so much higher than neighboring streets. By the way, do not rub greyfrier Bobby nose. It's causing damage to the statue. His nose has almost completely been rubbed off from the 1000s of tourists rubbing the statue.

When we were in Edinburgh we stayed at the ocean mist in Leith which is a moored boat turned into a hotel. Highly recommend it.

Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde was based on Deacon Brodie,a respected member of the Edinburgh establishment by day and an evil criminal by night.
I knew you had to go here !!! So happy you have .❤
I went around with a lantern at night on a history/ ghost tour . It’s got so much atmosphere
Unusual find for you two. Amazing how you could connect the dots... So to speak. Happy Halloween y'all and as always be safe.☠️👻
