Reading a book about the Pine currently and came across this race. Great loss of a great racer and even greater innovator during this race. I worked with a fellow designer who went to tech school with Shampine back in the day and he said he was the smartest in the class. I saw him race mods, supers, and sprinters. He was always smooth and never abused his equipment. RIP Pine.

last memory I have of that 5 car (with sacks driving) was at thompson speedway. Greg "superman" Sacks battling Reggie "kryptonite" reggiero. Towards the end of the race and the 2 of them got together and 1 of them went flipping over the old dirt bank and into the pits. I wanna say it was sacks that flipped but I cant remember.

Was Nascar still butthurt about drivers racing these outlaw races at this time?

They are still butthurt over things like that. Here in Maine, Beech Ridge Speedway, a NASCAR-sanctioned track, took the week off the weekend before the Oxford 250, then ran the night before it. That made it really hard for the Beech Ridge guys to turn around and try to run the 250.
